Title: Newspaper Article
HarapanOng - February 6, 2006 12:22 PM (GMT)
I am surprised no one knew about this, but SMC (no doubt with virtuosos plastered all over it) has been in the news again.
It's in the IN issue of Straits Times. The article is called "Strictly Magic", talking about the "new breed of magicians who do close up, in your face magic".
Anybody know about this?
Aloy - February 6, 2006 12:31 PM (GMT)
Ohh...it's out already? That's faster than I thought. When did it come out and where can we find it?
HarapanOng - February 6, 2006 12:39 PM (GMT)
I am not sure if you can get it that easily. It is on a "special edition" in Straits Times called IN. Hwa Chong subscribes it, so practically every student will get it.
Straits Times intereactive needs a PAID SUBSCRIPTION?!
Anyway, if you have any friends from Hwa Chong, ask them to let you have a look. It features the handsome faces of Elijah, Sylvester and HURON. :) Although Kevin's name appeared, he wasn't in any picture. Strange.
The article is simply about how magicians nowadays "embrace" Blaine Magic instead of Copperfield; how many of us are doing in your face magic instead of the old school pull-rabbit-out-of-hat. It also tells how dedicated they are and yadayada you get the idea.
Sorry, I cannot find an online version of it.

Mind telling me which issue is it?
I see if I'm able to get it from my friend. :)
Vic - February 6, 2006 01:22 PM (GMT)
Where do we buy ' In '? I wanna get a copy... Yeah. Pls tell me thanks. :D
HarapanOng - February 6, 2006 01:26 PM (GMT)
the issue is called IN. It's a separate paper.
I dunno whether you can buy it or something. But my school subscribes, so I just get it.
Vic - February 6, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)
Could you like... Ask someone for me or something.. I really wan to see the article... Yeah. Or maybe.. Scan it in for me and send to me... :X.. Im being too much... but if its possible, thanks in advance

I think only schools that subscribe from Straits Times will be able to get that issue.
You cannot find "IN" issue if you buy your newspaper from your usual Mama Shop/Coffee Shop; it is specially issued for students, I think.
<Aaron> - February 6, 2006 02:21 PM (GMT)
err.. this extra IN section can be found with the straits times? not sure if it is only for students...the date: 06/02/06(nice no.) it basically just talks about magic being the recent sub culture and the profits of the shops..oh it featured golden landmarkk's actual address! can't post it lest i get another 10..20 is enough!
Navarrone - February 6, 2006 02:38 PM (GMT)
The IN Section can be found in any Straits time Newspaper,Cuz my dad bought an issue and I saw it. So it can be found in any normal straits time, but it's over already, so no point knowing it now anyway, unless a back copy is available or something...

Ahh yes, and it took up the entire middle page, with Huron on the front page. not only virtuoso was mentioned , smc , and the various magic shops , including Justin !! geez. oh do read the last line of the entire article, i was laughin hard at it. its just awesome having magic being brought up again. Lets hope more interest and life could be brought into magic again!
Blackwing - February 7, 2006 09:23 AM (GMT)
Yeah I owe Ling Xuan a huge thanks for getting myself and justin mentioned.
Thanks Ling!
Vic - February 7, 2006 09:36 AM (GMT)
Hmm... I think its only given to schools... I checked the paper that was delivered to my house on wednesday and there was no 'In' section... Yeah. Walked around a few 7-elevens and didn't see any too :( Nvm..

I didn't get mentioned at all. Not fair!
Ugh.
lukold - February 7, 2006 02:58 PM (GMT)
yea its limited to schools only
Vic - February 8, 2006 12:38 PM (GMT)
Eh.. Not really.I'm getting a bit confused. My friend's mother bought an issue of Straits Times on 07/02/06 and got it. Hes not a magician though, but he agreed to show me the article. Yeah. But.. according to aaron, he said that we could get it in the 06/02/06 Straits Times.
However, the both issues of straits times that were delivered to my house did not have the 'In' section.
Energywave - February 8, 2006 01:25 PM (GMT)
