hmm.. fat fingers? i never really thought that mattered. lol

you can try doing stretching exercises for your fingers.. might help.
or like sand king said, just get a healthy diet. =.="

or maybe you could wear finger wraps... :P (i'm not sure if there's such a thing)

FAT finger dun get into the way man, slim finger then got problem.

People like me, having alot of gaps in between the fingers, have problem grapping the card, haha and haven the chance that the gaps will expose the card. (Need to tilt in an angle to prevent that)

So whats comes to getting the sleight down? Break down and slowly practise. :)

come to think of it, yeah.. i know one or 2 magicians with huge fingers. and they can still pull off their sleights clean.

work on it dude.. haha. different fingers have different styles...

(well, sort of)

bz doing thumb presses since morning....

hehe... gotta find a technique that suits..

perhaps one handed palm not possible for my thumb's physique..

You probably need an adjustment in technique. What you are experiencing with this sleight is exactly what makes the sleight difficult to get. The key is to arch the wrist down; this hooks the the thumb backwards and frees up the path that allows the card to pass the thumb. It's hard to explain here in detail, but do give it a go. PM me if you need help.

This move is taught in the book which i was selling "Real Magic" by Jose. But it is currenlty on hold to someone ^_^

One mistake, which I fortunately overcame, was jerking the wrist upwards in an attempt to get the card to move into position. This is a big NO NO.

So for anyone using this method, its good to stop now when you still can. B)

no only thin fingers...those with huge knuckles too...your knuckles just have to be just right..haha..yep arch your wrist down or hold the pack further down the thumb in biddle.. ^_^

Niguetan, i know what u are referring to...
I have at least 3-4 illustrations and paragraphs describing this move..

with good misdirection you can always use other methods to palm a card although a one hand top palm would be great...how about going for the second best method?

farbird - February 14, 2006 03:26 PM (GMT)
haha
second best method is to scream UFO and point in a direction behind audience and quickly hide card in underpants

I doubt you need any of those.

Okay, after experimenting and seeing your problem, try holding the deck with the thumb more to the bottom left of the deck.

Try it.

will practice busily

I use my pinkie to kick the card sideways about a half inch before performing the palm. If I understand your problem correctly that should pretty much solve it because you would be shifting the card sideways just enough to clear whatever thumb flap you were talking about. Also it kind of helps to flatten the palm of your hand downwards when you perform the palm, its kind of hard to explain in words but basically you press your palm downwards and flatten your fingers as much as possible. I guess the logic behind that is that it creates a greater surface area and there's more space to lever the top card up, and I think it's particularly useful if you have smaller hands. I don't know if that made sense or not but you can pm me if it didn't and I'll try to help you out.

As for not palming the card perfectly I don't bother about that because after doing the palm I just let my hand fall to the side most of the time, and even if I don't the back of my hand never directly faces the audience, its kind of hard to explain again but its basically parallel to the side of my body which obscures the spectators' view. I could have almost half a card protruding out from the side of my hand and no one would be able to see it. Of course ideally you would want to lever the card up into your palm as perfectly as you can but it doesn't really matter to me. If you've got good misdirection and audience management skills you could pull it off pretty damn easily. I've done it with people surrounding me literally 360 degrees all around and no one catches anything. Try it out some time, you'd be surprised.\
