JamKid - October 12, 2004 10:53 PM (GMT)
get the bunny suit guy to hang around his neck while collecting money...
BuaYa - October 13, 2004 02:23 PM (GMT)
Sinple, use some blue tack and stick it to the wall. Trust me, no one will try to steal that... And of course, remember to take it down after the GIG.
BuaYa - October 13, 2004 02:49 PM (GMT)
Um... I've got this extremely extremely bad feeling that we're going to get rejected if we tried to get this thing, especially for myself. I mean, read "Application Procedure" nuber 3 and 4...
Employment pass, if applicable (should be original documents)
&
Record of arts activities undertaken in the last 3 years, if applicable (should be original documents
I for one know that I don't have either of these. I dunno about you guys. But i take comfort in the line written on that same page: No audience participation is allowed except for suitable performances such as mime, magic or circus acts.

eh friend, employment pass only for non-singaporeans lah.
For the record of arts activities, show them the receipts for all the magic items you have bought :D
Seriously, i think they will call you in for a simple audition if you couldn't produce the records. Shouldn't be a big problem? :ph43r:
Maybe after everyone's exams we give this a go and see if we can get this going. It will be fun if ALL OF US go busk at orchard road together. Kinda like our own little magic festival. Yeah..... B)
illusionist - October 13, 2004 05:01 PM (GMT)
Yeah I go go there and take video and photographs hahhahha... :D
Winder - October 13, 2004 05:03 PM (GMT)
Why not ~ Seems like a good idea ~ Haha
BuaYa - October 16, 2004 12:34 PM (GMT)
LoL. I tell you, if Huron and Kevin and Daryl are going, I don't mind dropping my wallet into their hats!
Winder - October 16, 2004 12:44 PM (GMT)
An empty wallet ? LOL ~ Kindly load it with some cash, credit card numbers, signature. Haha

Hey guys, for your informations. NAC has been quite strict nowaday for giving out license, due to the past where students get the license (coz it's free) and never really make full use of it. I'm working as a full time magician and has been holding busking license for a few years. Now all you got to do is try to convince NAC (Frank who is the incharge) that you want to do this as a job. He's a nice guy to talk to but there are 2-4 other people who will judge your performance and it's them who has the final answer to your license. Drop me a mail if you do have any enquiry about getting the license.

Thank you for the information Jimmagic. That was very helpful.
When you say to "convince NAC that you want to do this as a job", what do you mean exactly? I was under the impression that the busking license was never meant to be a "business license" and as a source of livelihood, but as means for local artists and performers to take their craft to the streets. Could you tell us more on that? Thank you.
Cheers
BuaYa - November 7, 2004 11:38 AM (GMT)
Convince them? You mean threatning or bribing? I personally feel threatening is easier... LOL.
Jimmagic - November 7, 2004 11:37 PM (GMT)
It should never be taken as a "business license". In the past in order to renew the license, you'll have to donate part of your money from busking. This year NAC allow all busker to keep all the money in order to let artist mainly survive for busking. That is why when I mention "convince" means that you're sort of giving up present job and to be a full time busker. If you can't give up your job, at least your present job somehow are related to the art.
As I mention before, there are lot's of people who got the license but never busk at all. All the license have specific location and they won't allow too many busker crowd at certain part of singapore. If someone get the license just for fun, for example "orchard road", then the slot for that location will be taken up while other busker might not be able to get location "orchard road". It 'll affect other full-time busker for losing orchard location due to it's the best location of singapore.
Well think about it, I ever saw a lady who was failed for the audition and it was sad. It was actually very easy to get that license but when they look at the past year performance, they will consider whether they should let you renew. Don't worry if you're serious about it. If you still don't understand, do let know so I can explain more details to you guys.

It means that they expect us to use busking as our main revenue of income...?

NAC don't expect everyone to be a full-time busker nor taking it as main source of income. You can take it as a part-time job and it's fine.
Try to ask yourself a few question.
Within a year, how many times will you go busking?
Can you think of a way to approach people without offending anyone?
How are you going to collect money from Singapore people?
(most Singaporean like to see but don't tip the artiste)
Just like to let those who are interested that complain about rude offending and money matter are big issue at NAC.
Aloy - November 8, 2004 02:48 PM (GMT)
Thanks for the info Jimmagic. That was very useful.
Another question, if a certain "act" or craft requires more than 1 persons, does each of them require a busking license?
And, would you like to give us a short introduction of yourself in the Hellos and Intros section? B)
Jimmagic - November 13, 2004 02:08 AM (GMT)
If your act require more than 1 person or so, you could actually get NAC to issue a group license. It mean that there are more than 1 name in the license. But the bad thing about the license is that only 1 license will be given out rather than everyone get a license. So if you hold on to the license, you need to be there all the time when busking is on.
Aloy - November 13, 2004 04:14 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the info Jim, that was certainly useful.
Now anybody wanna go negotiate with NAC and see if they will give us a SMC group license? B)
But seriously, anyone interested in go trying for a busker's license? Let's get some together, it would be a riot.
Winder - November 13, 2004 04:19 AM (GMT)
Get a SMC Group Busking License Hahaha ~ Sounds good to me ~
Mystical2004 - November 13, 2004 11:50 AM (GMT)
