well.. it really depends on what you said to reply them.

if you continuosly approach them to show magic, maybe they'll get upset that you dun wanna teach them. so.. perhaps slow down on showing them? they might get bored 1 day and ask you to show them.. haha.

or you could change your target audience. show some other pple, they're bound to get interested if you show others and not them.

or.... you could do something eye-catching. hele-card, d-lite.. maybe some catchy flourishes..

ah well. just a few ideas. its up to you.
cheers

My thoughts:

1. An amateur performs different effects to the same audience; the professional performs the same effects to different audiences.

2. I don't think it is always NECESSARY to keep performing to others. Sometimes you have to sort of make them WANT you to perform. Then they will appreciate it. If they ask you to perform, then do so. If not, don't just because you learnt some cool trick yesterday and that is why you want to perform to others.

3. I do not exactly believe you have to catch their eye like that. (MRT example) I think it is kind of... lame. I dunno. Just my feelings.

4. Get irritated... because they don't know how it is done? Ever tried changing you presentation?

if you're practising in the bus, i guess people will definitely watch. haha. but why get irritated with them? you want them to look, don't you..?

i practise in the bus but i dun usually enjoy people watching.. especially in the bus. firstly, angle problems... people might see what you're doing, even if you were to practise sitting down.. people from the seats diagonally behind you can see.. lol.

so for the sake of non-exposure i dun do anything if someone sits next to me or near me. haha.

anyway, if you enjoy people watching, den just let them watch bah. dun get irritated with them.. :P

Tips to get them interested?

Only perform when they ask for it.

OR

Perform only when the situation sees fit.

Honestly, I feel that magic is not something to show how skillful you are but only for the sole sake of entertainment and if people are not in the mood to be entertained, you can do nothing about it. Even if you can fly, they won't even bother.

Pick your moments to entertain and suprise. If chosen well, you will get the reactions you want.

I cannot agree with panpanpan more on this. Make them wait. Trust me, you will see an increase in the impact of your work. It adds prestige and a seriousness; when I perform I generally want people to watch essentially, on my terms.

When I first started I jumped on every opportunity to perform and became the circus monkey. No wonder the demise of resonant magic.

Haha. I agree with what niquetan said. I faced the same problems when i started out. You can maybe practise to your family (who will be more tolerant towards repeated attempts).

But, when you want to show magic, sometimes, its better to 'diao qi lai mai' (meaning: play hard to get). Choose a correct situation to show maybe like one trick then stop. This should make a good impact. Then they will remember you. Then, they might pester you to show them instead.. :g:

Simply put, make them pester you to show magic, rather than pestering them so you can show them magic... :)

Hope this helps.
A.
