Star Gazer Bands
By Alan Wong
US$15-US$20 retail
Effect: Bring out two rubber bands and explain that you can do rubber band Origami. You take the two rubber bands and stretch them into an star and other shapes. You then stretch them into another star. You explain that you can make one of the bands become a star. No really, give it a pinch and it takes the shape of a star! You can hand it out as a souvenir.
This is easy to do and if you do any rubber band magic you should get this effect. This trick is not a stand alone effect, but would go great with a rubber band routine and could easily be worked in. The instruction are less desirable. They are hard to understand and don't give you any type of patter. It took me about an hour to make the star, but now it's easy. All that said I liked this trick. You may want to look through some old Genii magazines. I have heard that McBride has a one handed star using rubber bands in an old issue. I don't know which, nor do I know how old. Sorry, but have fun trying to find it :-)
Pros- If your a rubber band worker this is a must have.
Cons- Bad instructions, expensive, needs refills

He's from Hong Kong. If you look around in stationary shops, sometimes you'll be able to find these refills for $1.75 a pack of about 20. The bands comes from Japan.

Hi Guys,
No doubt I am not a close up worker, I performed this trick most of the time when someone ask me to show a trick.
As mentioned by some of you, I performed this trick after the crazy man hand cuff. It is easy to switch after the normal Crazy man handcuff.
I have been finding the rubber band as menioned by Magicdow by up to date still cannot find.

hi there...Alan Wong is a good friend of mine..he created star gazen in 1999 and fooled the he** outta me when i first saw it then...it was also at the convention that JB Magic saw the product and wanted to distribute exclusively...i brought it back to Singapore then and many magicians were shocked! by the effect too.. In my opinion , its one of the best rubber bands effect ever developed...Umm..i would suggest purchase the original, as with all magic products...its not only about the trick or prop...we have to credit their thinking and hard work put into developing it...
ps:try it on the gals and they'll love it...:)
Cheers,
Jeremy Pei

use to be available at Kinokuniya stores but i think all magicians that sees it will grab all so its always out of stock...My company sells them too but not at the usual book store price...
Its highly recommended and you don't need to give away the star whenever you performs it..."unless to someone special"...

Hi guys, I just made a check @ Kino's main branch but they don't have it anymore (awww shucks!). Apparently their distributor from Japan has ceased its production!
So well, those really interested in getting their refills, you know where to get them from ;)
