phsycofreak - March 13, 2006 01:35 AM (GMT)
which type of levitation wld be the best to do

i always do balducci

if there is only one person i will do king rising

jonatha - March 13, 2006 03:43 AM (GMT)
balducci is not the best jus simple and impromtu

nckai - March 13, 2006 06:22 AM (GMT)
The effect that King's can create is good but abit troublesome. Balducci is impromptu though.

But all angle sensitive.

I suggest you post this in the general magic section.

" Magic Newbie " is a place for you to post if you're new in this area. That means, that only the other newbies and the moderators will be reading your post.

If you want comments from the more experienced magicians, post in the general magic section.

Actually I moved it here ^_^

I thought self levitation is one of the most frequently asked questions by magic newbies who got inspired by TV specials so I think it would be useful for future newbies here.

Kazekage - March 15, 2006 06:13 PM (GMT)
The best would be Criss's levitation...
I havent tried it as its too troublesome to prepare!
Impromptu? Has got to be Balducci ^_^
Just my opinion though

zomaziz - March 16, 2006 12:45 AM (GMT)
king rising is harder than balducci, of course. if you have it, you'll know why. haha. but an even harder 1 would be criss angel's....

oh ya, one thing about balducci.. although it's simple, a lot of layman seem to know about it. its like every now and then a friend of mine (non-magician) would just ask me to stand there and watch him levitate. <_<

they told me they found it on the ***
which is surprisingly true.

Paradoxt - March 16, 2006 04:44 AM (GMT)
Balducci is too common already. I was doing some stuff the other day in school and i saw this group of sec 2's trying to do. like the whole group of them.

Aloy - March 16, 2006 04:51 AM (GMT)
Balducci is officially useless for the next 10 years. B)

For those who are so happy that they know how David Blaine floats, don't bother doing it to ANYONE and hope to impress them. They will probably just laugh at you.
I think every other person knows how baldducci works now.

This is what exposure can do. You let someone in on the secret, and someone will tell someone else, and someone else will tell someone else, and before you know it, even primary school girls know how balducci works.

If you learnt it from your friend, then it's still ok. Imagine you paid for it, and now EVERYONE knows how it's done and they will only laugh at you next time you try to show it.

I hope this makes you think twice about exposing magic methods next time. B)

Ok... I'll give my reviews for some of the various levitation

Balducci: well in the past its only flaw is the angle... now the MAJOR FLAW is that almost EVERY kid under the sun knows how to perform it....*Sigh*
Its a would be a 3.5/5 if is not over expose

Ace - April 9, 2006 01:12 PM (GMT)
King rising: Need to have real good audience management....Plus some clothing requirement..... The angle is fairly decent.... 3.5/5

Wild Levitation: Nothing much to say  ... those who know about it'll know why... 1/5

Elevator: This one is Super angel friendly!! Can be viewed from front and side!! You need to do a move which can be fishy to the spectator...ELevator 2 solved this problem though! The height is another flaw... You only go 3 inches with this one... 4/5

Criss Angel Levitation: Yes the one taught in the Mastermind DVDs... This one can really make you levitate real high.... However you need some clothing requirement and to me it's not practical to do.... Don't expect to do this in Orchard road.... You have to back face the audience.... The spectator should NEVER see what is happening in front. No they won't clap their hands like what some stooges did in Criss angel's preview... They'll be laughing their heads off instead... 3.5/5

Icarus effect: I don't owned this but this sure looks amazing! Its something like the Criss angel's Levitation but you do it facing the audience.... And this is a one on one levitation.. meaning this should be quite angel sensitive.... One Bad thing( or good thing for those who owned it) is that it is SUPER EXPENSIVE! *Sob* ?/5

Joe112 - April 9, 2006 01:21 PM (GMT)
You'd be surprised at how few people know Balducci. I did it for a small group of about 4 people once, outside Borders. They were blown away. I find levitations that need a jacket bad, because hardly anyone wears a jacket in Singapore-SO HOT. i don't own it, but I heard Criss Angel's levitation needs alot of setup. The price is pretty steep, considering the price of the DVD alone.

Ace - April 9, 2006 01:29 PM (GMT)
Wow That's cool.... I must be real unlucky then....Nowadays when i peform magic... there'll always be at least one of them who say they can do the floating thing and EXPOSE the Balducci infront of everyone...*Sign*

Well, even if they didn't know how it's done (which is really not many left). If they were really blown away, they would be able to find out how it's done as soon as they search on the internet. So that next time they see you, can can gleefully laugh at you. :g:

There you have it. The "beauty" of magic exposure on the internet:
it helps people who have no interest in performing magic find out how it's done. B)

....so that some of them can even challenge magicians and magic hobbyists to put up videos and they will figure out how it's done. ;)

I'm more sure now than before:
Exposure will not encourage new magicians, it will only breed hecklers.

illusionist - April 9, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
This is the life of a magician I can say lol. If you do something impressive there will be someone to be a heckler. We just got to face the fact that internet have make many things very accessable. What ever it is things are not that bad yet la. It really hard to stop people from exposing magic. When we are curious at something we will try our best to go find out how its done. But what I find out is those who do not have the interest in know that stuff they will just forget over time. :D

i_neveregret - April 10, 2006 02:29 AM (GMT)
...i hate internet exposure...

newbies can have excess to secrets easily and they will never apreciate the art of magic.

though most of the things that can be found on net are put by ammateurs.
They WILL regret :)

Ace - April 12, 2006 01:43 AM (GMT)
YEAH!! They WILL regret cause we'll MAKE them regret! Haha

Seems like everytime we talk about levitation we'll come to the Balducci...And from the Balducci we'll talk about the internet exposure problem....And then we'll all go :off: haha

I think that's one of the reason why nowadays Levitation effects are getting more and more expensive....

No one willl spend USD400 on Icarus and start exposing it on the internet...right.....?

ARGH!!!! When can i have enough money to get Icarus?!!! *Sob*

Paradoxt - April 12, 2006 08:35 AM (GMT)
My friend did the balducci with his back facing me recently. looks good too.

jonatha - April 12, 2006 06:46 PM (GMT)
hey there is a levitation where by a person lie flat on the ground and a cloth is place over him (cover fully) and he starts to rise to about 20 cm high and its impromtu... any idea what trick is it?

sand king - April 13, 2006 10:09 AM (GMT)
hey johnny, i doubt that there are any other impromtu levitations other than the balducci.
There is a trick, almost the same as the one you discribed, but you levitate your friend, its from andrew mayne's touching sky, the book if full of levitations. I own a copy.

jonatha - April 13, 2006 06:41 PM (GMT)
Ya correct, you levitate your friend. is it impromtu?

Ace - April 13, 2006 08:42 PM (GMT)
I think sand king is talking about the suspension of disbelief... That is not impromtu....other than the cloth you need chairs.... Instead of levitating off the floor your friend levitate off the chairs...

I think jonatha is talking about another trick....

And if its what i think it is... then its not really impromtu.... you cannot just go around on the street pick a audience and then levitate him....
If i'm not wrong that trick can also be a self levitating trick... in that case then its impromtu...if you have the cloth with you...
cannot say much due to exposure....

sand king - April 14, 2006 02:06 AM (GMT)
No no i was trying to say there is no other impromtu levitations besides the Balducci and sometimes kings rising.

Ace - April 14, 2006 01:31 PM (GMT)
Ya i know... Just trying to clarify the doubts of jonatha regarding if the trick is impromtu....

jonatha - April 16, 2006 07:46 PM (GMT)
i dunno the method but i heard from another friend of mine saying that it is impromtu but the person you levitate must be a fren of yours and he must know the method

Johnckj - August 1, 2006 12:33 PM (GMT)
Heard from my friends that most impromptu levitation are really angle sensitive and because of it, it aint too popular to perform such trick esp. if its to close friends, what do u guys think abt it?

yong_tianadeline - August 1, 2006 12:42 PM (GMT)
Johnckj,

Depends on your definition of impromptu..
Correct me if i am wrong. Most if not all levitations are angle sensitive.
It isn't just angle problems if you are performing to close friends too... They seem to transform into hecklers esp if you are really close.

**Btw, would you like to introduce yourself to us by posting in the intro section 1st? ;)

A.

Yes, while this is rather uncommon, I have heard of it too. The secret is (IMO) not very strong, but it should fool many people. However, I am unsure of it's name.
