undead - March 14, 2006 06:58 AM (GMT)
erm...have anyone here ordered stuff from the SOC in the penguin magic website? pls reply
Aloy - March 14, 2006 10:09 AM (GMT)
Maybe you should ask more specifically what you want to know rather than just ask who buy from them before.
What do you want to know?
Falcon121 - June 16, 2006 02:59 PM (GMT)
Whoa!
U better email them and tell them.
They're shipping can be some times really disorganised.
Gabriel-wong - June 17, 2006 04:35 AM (GMT)
Hi, I bet what happen is that your delivery did not came? SOC orders are mostly disorganised on Penguinmagic just like what Falcon121 said.
Their e-mail address is already changed but they did not post their new e-mail on the web. SO its kind of like a SCAM.
Please post what really happen, and I might help you. I'm quite a old customer of penguinmagic.

We go to them with pitchforks and butter knives!
BAdmiNTon - June 17, 2006 05:24 AM (GMT)
hi, a question here, are there any online dealers in SMC dealing in penguin products?
bigbadwolf - June 17, 2006 05:30 AM (GMT)
I don't think there is. Most of the Penguin stuffs can be purchased over at Murphy's
Ning - June 17, 2006 09:49 AM (GMT)
Well, yes and no... PM sometimes has stuff that aren't the 'original' or 'first' product, not quite rip-offs, but well, cheaper versions so to speak  A good example is their various pen through dollar bill gimmicks.
Murphys has a whole lot of things but they don't really sell these variants but their prices are still good... so honestly, it depends on what you're looking for. For instance... Last year, someone asked me for a quote on the peanut butter jelly gimmick that PM sells. Murphys didnt have the same exact one, as the one they retail is the first of its kind marketed by the original creator and is quite pricey for a kid's stage routine.
PM's version was way cheaper because they didn't have to pump in money for research & development, etc. and well, this topic has been mentioned many times in many forums- about PM selling 'copies' and 'rip offs'. In the end, though he's my customer and I could try to tell him to order the more expensive version that Murphys has, I simply told him to get the cheaper one from PM instead... this is because I know that he's a student hobbyist who performs mainly for charity. The PM alternative would work just fine for his purpose.
At the end of the day... though we all have needs, everyone has a budget. Some hobbyists just want something that they can use but some who take magic on a deeper, more serious level, want the original and don't mind shelling out more for quality and intergrity.
Quite similar to the case of the many m***** rings these days in the magic market. However, some things like Jay's Self Tying Shoelace is also available from Murphy's, not just their PM website.
There are so many things available in the market, so don't rush and make a purchase you'll regret (trust me, I've got so many heels, shoes, bags, accessories and clothes I haven't even used... and er, magic items too!) so look around before making the decision to buy.
Whatever the thing is (from or by who), just make sure it's going to be worth your money. It's such a tragedy if it lies in the back of your cupboard with 'friendly' dust bunnies!
My 2cents...

I believe Penguin will be able to price match the products from SOC as well....instead of paying for the full retail price advertised.
Anyway, what's with the disorganised shipping issue?
joeltay81 - August 8, 2006 05:42 PM (GMT)
Ah, Penguin Magic! Bad service.
I have been having problems for at least 8 months. Could not access the discussion forums for any of the items I bought from them in the past. This despite sending them countless emails about it and having them assure me that they would get the IT department to look into it. On top of that, my latest order, which included a number of SOC items has not arrived although i ordered it on 6/7/06. 2 days back, I decided to give them an ultimum. Was fed up with the bad service and I honestly think that I have been patient enough. >8 months of waiting.
This was my latest email to them. Wrote as tactful as I can while sending while not being too diplomatic. (I was actually seriously considering boycotting their products for good).

They just replied.
Joel,
We're very sorry for the delay -- your entire order has been resent at our expense. It should arrive very soon.
I will make sure the IT dept. has your access reinstated this afternoon.

I hope it is for real this time.

Well... personally, i have only ordered from PM once and i live in USA. So, shipping is probably less of an issue. I had 2 SOC items and 2 regular items. The regular items came within a few days, with a letter saying that "you will probably notice that some of your items are not here" and that it was shipped from a different warehouse as well. The SOC items did come after quite some time... (say 2-3 weeks?), which is longer than the estimated time and I live in the same country which PM is in! So, I'd say, they're just pretty inefficient with the postage of their SOC items. Maybe it's the packing that takes longer or something. I don't know.

Been four days and my forum access problem in Penguin has still not been dealt with yet - despite them saying it would be done by afternoon the other day.
*sigh*

Hi
I must say in all honesty, from my personal experience, I have not had a single issue ordering from PM. I have ordered loads of gimmicks, DVDs and refills from them for the past 2 yrs and not once have I had any issues.
I once ordered Dave & Dan's The Trilogy DVD set and the third disc was faulty. I sent PM an email and within 3 weeks I got the replacement disc with no charges.
I think maybe it was just an oversight on their part ... it happens.
Just sharing my personal experience and I don't work for them :P .
Oh and by the way, just like Ning, I have plenty of stuff sharing space with those pesky dust bunnies ...
Cheers

Lol
nice reply to a thread almost 2 years ago ^
qureyoon - March 25, 2008 11:18 AM (GMT)
If it is on a Review Sections, and the reply was indeed a review (not a mere 1-2 liner), I think it's ok even though the thread is 2 or 5 years ago.
It will provide others with recent experience of this dealers.
My 2 cents.
nottieboy - April 3, 2008 04:23 AM (GMT)
well through all this, at least we know that now PM service has improved!that's good news.
Doublelifter - April 13, 2008 04:43 PM (GMT)
Strange, I've been dealing with PM for years with no problem at
all, maybe I was lucky. I once ordered a PK Ring which was a little
too big for my fingers and sent it back to exchange for the correct
size. They replied that the size I wanted was out of stock and
promptly refunded my money.
I also find that their prices are always cheaper compared to other
magic online dealers. One suggestion is if your purchase exceed
USD100 or there abouts it's better if you pay like a dollar or two
for insurance, just in case.
