Hi Everyone,

Do you guys usually buy and learn magic from magic shop? or prefer getting videos and learn it yourself?

it depends on each person's style of learning, i guess learning from someone else is more interesting than learning from a disc. but its just my preference.

Usually learn it from books and original videos (VHS or DVDs) as that is the only way we can credit the people who produced it.

I don't want to start a long talk about ethics here but buying originals are the best we can do.

I usually learn from a vcd or dvd because if i learn it from a shop i cant really keep asking him to repeat as i'm a slow learning and what if i forget how to do the trick or something so yea.. :( and BOOKS its a no no for me. haha

bigbadwolf - March 22, 2006 10:24 AM (GMT)
videos are good learning materials.

but i may be approaching material from books soon (Art of Astonishment :D )

i never buy tricks from shops before. are they also taken from videos too?

:off: hmm...i have a doubt that i've been keeping to myself for quite sometime. i'm not saying that the shops ripped the tricks from the videos and sell them seperately. but i saw Chance Zero being sold for $25. <_<

so it gives me an assumption most are taken from the videos...can anybody clear the misunderstanding? $25 for a trick like Chance Zero is too expensive ( i can get it for $13 at Penguin magic and i get to keep the instructional video for life too)

well that's the result of learning from Ellusionist. the original name of the effect is "out of this world" by Dai Vernon :off:

i learned from video. I would not recomment enguin or ellusionist instant download, ESP ellusionist since they never credit the creater and simply change the name of the effect in NINJA series.

Out of this world is by Paul Curry.

VCD? Are you asking for pirated copies?

haha. just joking. but so far i don't see any magic videos in vcd. Likely most of the videos are in dvd, course it can contain much much more materials than a vcd.

You don't want to pay $50 for a piece of vcd that runs only 70minutes right? ^_^

I think what Pseudo wrote was a statement not a question. There're probably some magic on VCDs, mostly from Hong Kong. Those major titles are never in VCD format.

Magic Vcds from Hong Kong? Hmm never seen before :X(Maybe I'm just too noob) Yeah. Most magic videos are made in Dvd Format. First is the interactivity and 2nd is the amount of space a dvd has. 4.7GB vs 700MB?=.= :ph43r: yeah. Thats probably the main reason why magic vids are in DVD format...

Also... You don't want to get 9 Pieces of VCD just for one title =.= (4.7GBdivide by 700mb) Hahas.

Magicdow... Could you give me some examples of the VCDs there are? I wanna do a search ;D Thanks in advance.

err..there are magic vcds around..only not commonly seen..go to magic dealer reviews, click on MY post for malaysia's shop and you can see that the sungai wang one sells vcds..these are just filmed like from a video cam? not copyrighted or anything.. so not pirated! :D
