Title: Beach Magic Suggestions
Description: if there's such a thing
nyx - March 26, 2006 03:55 PM (GMT)
I was thinking. I go to the beach very often and i was always caught unprepared to do something.
It would be fun to do something when you're in the midst of doing some beach activities.
Example: Playing frisbee, suntanning, walking on the coast, blah.
Any resources and suggestions on magic that can be done on a beach. Good suggestions will use things commonly found on beaches. Bad ones are things which may include a deck of cards.
bigbadwolf - March 26, 2006 04:20 PM (GMT)
use an IT on a frisbee and make it float. just like what Criss Angel did "impromptuly" :P
nyx - March 26, 2006 04:25 PM (GMT)
that was what i thought of initially. But then again, i'm not adept in ITs and i don't think i can make it fly out of my hands like how he did it.
UNLESS there's a resource somewhere.
Niktra - March 26, 2006 04:38 PM (GMT)
Move your watch's tanline up your arm wherever the spectator says stop? Haha, like what Chris Korn did on Mondo Magic SG? I like that idea a lot. ;)

jonatha - March 26, 2006 07:41 PM (GMT)
hi i also go to siloso beach every week... maybe you can try some magic(i don't know what you call that) like the one you break your tumb and move apart or make your pinky disapper, somehing like that but better ones
Paradoxt - March 26, 2006 10:25 PM (GMT)
Throw Sand at people and say "Tada!"
M.A.D. - March 27, 2006 04:19 AM (GMT)
hey, sir,
you might like to do CMH, Sand from TT, magician choice of drink and etc, FD of sea-self and many more... B)
Alexander - March 27, 2006 04:41 AM (GMT)
Honestly, why dont you think of those effects you can you yourself? I'm sure you already have a repetoire of items you can incorporate into doing it in the beach.
bryanne - March 27, 2006 08:06 AM (GMT)
Maybe you could do some story telling or something.
Tricks like
-Gypsy Monte
-Virginia City Shuffle
-Bicycle Built For 5
Although there might be no tables at the beach , this are just some ideas :D
nyx - March 27, 2006 09:11 AM (GMT)
Yes i do have some items. But i don't believe a card to wallet, card magic, appearing whatever will work well here.
And do understand that one is usually half naked on the beach and that makes certain moves and concealing difficult. Do consider the frequent strong winds on a beach. Certain hook ups are quite impossible. I don't think you can possibly do a good hummer under such winds. Notice the word "good". It can be done still.
I was thinking and all i could come out with are usual items on a beach. Like: mats, sunglasses, BOTTLEs of drinks, slippers, FRISBEEs, beach volleyball, suntan lotions, clothes hanging here and there, handphones and wallets lying around, sand, etc..
Well, if all else fails, sitting around a mat with a deck of cards still work.
zinally - March 27, 2006 12:03 PM (GMT)
As long u know some of the sleight of hand moves, u can do wonders using anything that u can hold on even at the beach.appearing, dissapearing, matrix etc. Use your imagination...(For me I do zombie routine with beach ball)
HarapanOng - March 27, 2006 01:25 PM (GMT)
Use creativity.
1. Seashell vanishes and productions.
2. Sand to seawater?
3. Suntan lotion bottle productions with beach towel
4. Rope routines with beach towels.
5. Beach ball levitation
6. Coins from Sand (reach into sand and pull out coins after coins)
7. Cups and Balls routine with buckets and shells.
8. Sand from TT.
9. Frisbee Levitation
10. Card revelation in sand (or even better, find their signed card wet and dirty and floating in the water)
See? haha.
Actually, I would not suggest cards. Cards and beach don't exactly mix. But never mind. :)
bigbadwolf - March 27, 2006 03:50 PM (GMT)
how about Buried in Sand for 42 days?
SHANGHAIBeN - March 27, 2006 03:58 PM (GMT)
Levitate your shades !! Idea from T.H.E.M . My friends freak out, ppl beside me shock like hell. HAHA Try it , you will never know how ppl react. And try moving objects around.

Panx3 :P
you are really creative. well done. :P
i will use them for my next show, theme:"seaside." B)
Larry Barnowsky - March 30, 2006 03:36 PM (GMT)
Using similar small seashells or pebbles found along the beach, use them for a chink-a-chink routine as taught in
Stars of Magic.
You can also do a transposition like a copper silver switch using one colored small shell and a contrasting one. An example of that using only two objects can be found in my recently released book
21st century Coin Mechanics (see link below). The effect is called
Copper Silver By Brute Force and uses original sleights.
The old effect of 1 in the pocket and 3 in the hand can also be used with pebbles or shells. I'll assume you have a pocket in your swimsuit. :D

How about parting the sea, that would be really cool.

If i could part the sea, i'll be on TV for a long time and i'd probably be sent to area 51 to have wires into my brain.
Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions. I'll use whatever materials i have now to conjure what i can think of. And probably update on this.
jonatha - April 2, 2006 03:47 PM (GMT)
maybe you can try turning the sea red :g:
Xtreme - April 2, 2006 05:38 PM (GMT)
Try the coin through soda!!
jonatha - April 3, 2006 06:35 PM (GMT)
but its hard to find marker for them to sign... an if not sign the effect will not be as good
eryanic - June 23, 2006 11:56 AM (GMT)
Someone earlier mentioned moving your tan line...dont know if that was meant as a joke or not, but Nathan Kranzo just released a new effect which moves your tan line!
And vanishing sand sounds cool!
Paradoxt - June 23, 2006 01:14 PM (GMT)
sand from TT. Tell them a story like the sand was imported from hawaii, say the sand is so fine and soft that the strong winds would always make the sand fly around, then reach out and grab the air then produce the sand.
theWeaver - June 25, 2006 01:57 PM (GMT)
I think sand from TT is a really nice idea..
Moving tanlines? Hmm.. Never seen that before, but sure sounds cool!
And cards and beach does match okay~ When you get tired and all, sitting on the matts playing cards is good lesiure.
Oh, which reminds me, predictions drawn onto the sand should be quite cool.
ming - June 25, 2006 02:16 PM (GMT)
Moving tanline isn't that nice. You won't get good reactions.
Here is a vid.
theWeaver - June 26, 2006 05:49 AM (GMT)
Hmm.. Moving the tanline up the sleeves.. Hmm.. Now that sucks.. LOL.. =x
extremer - June 26, 2006 09:35 AM (GMT)
I believe u carry money with u always right. U can perform any rountine that involve money. Coins or dollar notes. There are plenty effect on money. Use them.
mgshn - June 27, 2006 01:45 PM (GMT)
It's not at all impromptu but it is *very* appropriate:

GordonLi - June 30, 2006 07:39 AM (GMT)
Yes, actually if you want to consider performing "beach" magic, then you have to work magic with beach items like beach balls, sand or sandcastles, the sea, etc, and not simply just common items like coins (else, it just becomes a "street" magic situation).
So far, I like the effect of moving tanline (I have no idea how it is done), and the effect referred to by mgshn.
Aloy - June 30, 2006 07:49 AM (GMT)
I remember an effect, where you mix a few cups of different coloured sands together and mixing them in a tank. And I think you poured water or something like that, and you somehow manage to seperate the sands according to colour dry from the tank.
Err....i've seen it a LONG time ago (and when i say long, it's probably >10 yrs ago), but i can't quite remember was it on TV or in a performance. And i can't really remember what exactly happened in the routine, but it was something like that...
Wait.....the real experts will come in to tell exactly what effect this is with full credits. ^_^
Anyways....yah, that can kinda work on a beach or something. :g:
Magicdow - June 30, 2006 08:26 AM (GMT)
Its called Sand of Sahara/ Hindu Sand. Copperfield performed it on one of his special. You can get it in a magic shop or you can find them in a science toy store (which is a lot cheaper).
Aloy - June 30, 2006 09:50 AM (GMT)
Bernard saves the day again... B)
But it's kinda off topic coz this is not exactly a close up effect
GordonLi - June 30, 2006 11:20 AM (GMT)
Oh yes, I remember watching that effect. I just love it, and I have still no idea how its done!
niquetan - June 30, 2006 01:07 PM (GMT)
Do a seashells across... (ungimmicked - haha)
Then end with a production of a jumbo turtle shell for your kicker.
Alright then... maybe not. :)
Ning - June 30, 2006 01:22 PM (GMT)
Wuahahaha... i like that idea though Nique ;) Cute!

The moving tan line is a good effect, and singularly appropriate to the beach. However, it requires some setup and cannot be repeated w/o going someplace private. Once you have set it up, it remains available to perform for some time.

Can you give us more information? Is this an original idea of yours or a released effect? ^_^ Thanks.

It's an effect sold by Nathan Krenzo and available for download from
http://www.hismagic.com/. The cost is $20 (US).

Thanks Bob! ^_^
Wow! This effect was actually performed in SG in the Mondo Magic special  There's also a video clip. Marco Tempest, one of my fave magicians, has also performed it... Looking at his other available effects, i must say, Nathan Kranzo (the creator) sure is one interesting guy.
SWEET! :g:
