What is the best book in the world?
What is the best movie in the world?
What is the best song in the world?

There is no such thing as a best DVD ahfeng, it depends on what you want to learn.

And can you give us an intro in the intros section?

ahfeng - April 3, 2006 05:43 PM (GMT)
My mistake :o . I should ask for a poll rather than asking whats the best.
Any effects will do for me, but no cards trick.

vin87 - April 3, 2006 05:46 PM (GMT)
get what suit you best ! then it will be the best DVD! =p

Sorry for the unclear post. Please allow me to rephrase my question. What DVD that you guys feel is well worth the money. Every cent of it.

I believe there are some DVD out there that are just crap. It may looks good on Tv, but I believe it is due to the well trained camera man and editing skills that makes it happen. In my opinion, levitation is one of them. Sorry if I offended anyone, like I say, its my personal opinion.

Please disregard what I want to learn, disregard what suits me best, just any DVD you guys simply love it. :D

You are not as noob as you tried to sound in your intro. B)

David Stone's coins videos is very good for coin-works foundations in my opinion. I'm still not thru the foundations yet.
Wonder Visions is FANTASTIC, but the books (Book of Wonder) are EVEN BETTER. So much better. But maybe becoz i'm such a fan. :g:
There are a couple of good vids that comes to mind, but nothing really comes up as head and shoulders above the rest.

Actually, If you really only have money for ONE dvd, why not spend it on a book? They usually cost abt the same and you usually get SO MUCH more material and effects. Value for money.

Uh, if CC1 by any chance stood for Card College 1, I don't think he would get it. He doesn't want card tricks

Sorry can't help on this though. Only learning card tricks as it goes now :D

<Aaron> - April 4, 2006 01:51 PM (GMT)
err, i would prefer dvds, because books are a bit too vague sometimes.

of course a book would be cheaper but some books are really old and it's unclear, so pick what you like!

oh it would really help if you would be interested in one aspect first, before setting out to buy learning materials on that aspect

Cheers,
Aaron ^_^

Thanks for all the input. I already have DVDs for cards effects, so I am looking for something else. I prefer DVD too. Clearer and easier to follow but there is a price to pay.

CC1 = cards college??

Is it good? I am thinking of getting EoPCF. Just wondering which one is better.

Markiebeth - April 4, 2006 02:06 PM (GMT)
Not interested in cards and you want to get EoPCF? Hmm, I think you bring a whole new meaning to Calvin Klein's 'Contradiction'.

ahfeng - April 4, 2006 02:20 PM (GMT)
Since when did I say I am not interested in cards? I already have enough DVDs on cards effects so I am looking for something else.

Many people suggested getting a book and I think EoPCF is a good long term investment. As for other magic, I still prefer getting a DVD :)

W3iRdKiD - April 4, 2006 03:00 PM (GMT)
   Misunderstanding eh! I thought you weren't interested in card tricks either. Since you said you didn't want card tricks I assumed.. :D

Hmmz the material in card college can last quite long I guess. Still stuck at book one trying to figure out some stuff. Going to  soon :D Think it's probably going to take at least a year or two for me to finish those 5 books I have  Very sleighty and requires some thinking to get things going, if you're a newbie like me that is.

Good book overall (for me anyway). Goes into great detail and gives you some points to note for the various effects and sleights. Also teaches you some of the proper handling of things such as the riffle shuffle and overhand shuffle. That's all I can contribute since I'm only stuck at the first book

If you like to learn by DVD and you don't want card tricks, I would recommend these DVDS which have a lot of non card magic and some card magic:

Aldo Colombini's Lasting Impressions
Johnny Thomson's Commercial Classics

These are videos done by true pros. The magic is not that difficult to learn from them.

M.A.D. - April 5, 2006 04:31 AM (GMT)
Jeff McBride - Stage Magic Volume 1 to 3 B)
