Title: What Deck Do You Guys Perform With ?
Kino - April 4, 2006 08:05 AM (GMT)
well just curious that when you guys perform your card magic to people, do you use the deck that you always practise with or do you use a brand new one ? I find that sometimes the brand new decks can be quite 'slippery' and i actually fall cards sometimes :)

bicycle, tally hos, alladin
almost any cards are possible, as long as your sleights are good enough

I use Bikes for performance, Aladdins for practice. Personally I find it better to use newer buy broken-in decks for performances, especially for Aladdins, since brand-new cards are very slippery and that can be detrimental if you are doing flourishes. Faro shuffles, I find, are good for breaking in decks. Pressure fans too.

i guess you guys misinterpreted this topic.
what he meant was whether to use old(practicing) or new deck for performing.
well, i practice with my ghost bike deck. but when performing, i use a new deck. it is very slippery though. so use it for about 2 days and its good condition. i seldom perform using the deck i practiced because of stickiness and some are bent here and there, DL is not perfect etc.
usually the deck lasts for a month or 2 then it gets sticky or dirty. so just get a new deck and keep the old deck. after a week or so, the old deck will be usable again and not sticky. so when you find the new deck uncomfortable to perform, bring out the old deck. Then keep this cycle going on.
but make sure you practice the trick on the new deck too. =( intensive practicing with old deck, then practice a bit on new deck) so you will be more confident when performing with the new deck.
and one more, try not to lend your friends your performing deck too often. it gets sticky very easily because they touch here and there, so its basically for personal use.

Ok it really depend.. If you are pay to perfrom then I recommend using a fairly new deck or new deck.. for practice it doesn't really matter wat deck you use... :D

i like to perform with bikes. Tally-Hos are alittle too expensive for tearing routines... :P

well i have 5 decks to rotate with. 1 ghost 2red bike and 2blue bike... every one or two days i rotate so that the card will not wear out too much... and every time i switch to another deck, i'll clamp that deck that i've just use for about a day using a G clamp and two piece of wood... this way you can last longer by rotating around with 5 decks than you use them one after another :P

As per what Mac said, if you're doing a gig use a new deck. If you're just performing for friends, go ahead and use that crimped, black and dirtied deck that you have been playing with all along :)

bicycle is the most affordable and durable brand i prefer

i think that aviator is not bad for its price its actually better than aladdin(what i feel) and its cheaper
bigbadwolf - April 5, 2006 06:26 PM (GMT)

Just wondering...does anyone here use Hoyle cards? I picked up a Maverick Hoyle recently. Around the same standard as Aladdins, though it doesn't seem to fan quite as well.

I picked a Maverick Hoyle up for 3 bucks from a friend. Doesn't seem to fan very well but it's good enough for practice.
jonatha - April 8, 2006 08:22 AM (GMT)

Navarrone - April 8, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)

besides bikes i also recommend aviator.
however one bad thing is its not AC, but it really handles well fan well too. (and its cheap.)
skeptics may want to stay away from it and stick to AC cards though

I'll recommend Tally Ho..... I think its currently the best deck to perform with.... However if you used Bicycle gimmick cards often then better stick to Bicycle...
Usually i'll not used brand new decks for performance... It'll be good to seasoned it before performing
noob_magicx - April 10, 2006 11:10 AM (GMT)
bike would be my favourite.. but i don't know if it is just me or i feel that tally hos would be a little slippery for magic if new.. but of course it depends on the the user.. but if ppl like my friend has an extreme sweaty palm.. i suggest buying a plastic deck.. (*save cost on the long run & the DLs are VERY NICE!!*) alladins are great to use too but it can get quite stiff..
just some thoughts, ian ^_^
Ace - April 12, 2006 02:23 AM (GMT)
BTW the best deck to perform with would be a borrowed deck... haha
Makes your card magic look more impossible....
Hence I actually go and try out with different brand of cards and take note of the characteristics of the different cards(my friend all say i'm Xiao...)
jonatha - April 12, 2006 07:27 PM (GMT)
hey who will carry decks out (execpt us)?
FRAGILE- - April 18, 2006 04:09 PM (GMT)
i use a very old, quite tattered, powdered, Ghost deck for my performances....LOL!! im too used to it. =)
hikkibiki - April 20, 2006 07:40 AM (GMT)
Is it wierd to ask here? It would be nice if you guys can tell me what are the best decks for manipulation.
