Title: Packet Trick
Description: What is your favourite Packet Trick

dry_gin - April 5, 2006 07:26 AM (GMT)
Packet Trick has always been on the market. Both easily available for both magicians and lay people.

Sometimes, I find that the "power" of a packet trick is very much under-estimated? What do you think? I was wondering if there is a packet trick that you use to perform?

I'll start the ball rolling, I use Bill Malone's 3 card monte!

Cheers!

I believe Bill Malone's version was created by Michael Skinner.

dry_gin - April 5, 2006 09:12 AM (GMT)
Yup, you are rite. it was created by Michael Skinner. and bill malone's paid him his rightful credits. but what i like is his patter. makes it more of a show rather than a betting routine

CHEERS!

I juz bought a packet of tea ice, and then show that the coin can penerate into the packet..

Is that consider a packet trick?

Anyway, thats being lame, hmm, normally a 3 card monte effect, easily got from any pack of cards.

Everyone's fav packet trick recently seems to be Grandpa's Aces, there's lotsa talk about it. B)

My 1st packet trick was when I was about 12, this effect that I absolutely don't remember the name for. Maybe someone knows?

The effect:

3 red kings and 1 black kings on blue back cards.
The magician attempts to change the black king to red to suit the 3 red kings.
With a move and a guesture, th black king is shown to be still black but instead of 3 reds and 1 black, it's now 1 black and 3 reds.
Deciding to change the 1 black king to a red king, the magician guestures again and the cards are found to be still 1 black and 3 reds. But when the cards are turned, the backs have turned red instead.

Er......something like that. Been a long time. Don't quite remember now. B)

Larry, regarding your coin thru packet trick. Does the coin really end up in the packet? If so paypal details pls. Its time for a pre-order. ;)

LarryDK - April 5, 2006 11:00 AM (GMT)
No la, Grandfather's aces is because of me la, anyway, its not a packet trick, it cant be done without the rest of the deck.

Hmm Thats sound familiar aloy, it sounds similar to the 3 blank card and a ACEs. I also forget the name.

Good effect though. But i almost confused while reading ur post.

I love packet tricks.

I'm sure, Colour monte is one of the tops. But my favourite is Captiulating cards, and Back flip.

Blackwing - April 5, 2006 11:51 AM (GMT)
NFW for me. Its the best of the best.

Aloy - April 5, 2006 12:30 PM (GMT)
Packet trick means card tricks that is done without the rest of the deck :)
Although i personally feel where possible, the packet cards should be drawn from a normal deck, just for the extra little subtlety.

Does Coin Matrix count? It utilizes cards.

Huatking - April 5, 2006 12:33 PM (GMT)
May I know what is 3 card monte?

LarryDK - April 5, 2006 12:52 PM (GMT)
I dun think coin matrix consider, because it is the coin that transport, unless ur cards end up to be 4 of a kind, then okie, nothing to say.. :)

As for a 3 card monte, hmm it is a effect that you ask the auidence to take note of the queen(money card) and note where the queen is, when u are switching between the cards.

There is a lot of variations of 3 card monte, i like Bob chua's one, clean and short.

Paradoxt - April 5, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
His variation is flawless.. I really saw nothing.

<Aaron> - April 5, 2006 01:49 PM (GMT)
haha yep, i love bob's one, especially the crimp etc etc. does anyone know where i can learn it from? is it from Sai pi-something 3 card monte dvd? i heard that it's good! ^_^

haha anyway, i don't really do packet tricks but i would prefer to take the deck out then in full view, take out a few cards so equals to packet trick!
haha

cheers ^_^

You just gave me a great idea. The effect would be I show 4 seemingly random cards and use them to do the coin matrix. After that when they start getting shocked, i turn over the cards and they would be 4 aces/kings. haha thanks!

A favorite packet trick is my version of Second Blush which can be found in Card Craft by J. K. Hartman. 4 blue backed jokers one at a time change to red and then there is a backfire where the cards instantaneously turn back to blue. The color changes are quite startling and guess what; there are no Elmsley Counts! :D

Paradoxt - April 5, 2006 01:57 PM (GMT)
No elmsley count? Is that even possible?

LarryDK - April 5, 2006 02:05 PM (GMT)
It is possible not to use the ghost count. For the method used, its up to idividual loh.

Anyone do Oil and Water? It's a great icebreaker when packaged with the right presentation. I Hate David Copperfield from the recently released Miracles for Mortals DVD by Geoff Williams is a great packet trick too.
