Title: Substitute For Bobo Switch
Description: URV Switch

Larry Barnowsky - April 6, 2006 02:01 PM (GMT)
The Bobo Switch is a valuable sleight which allows the coin worker to switch one coin for another. The move is taught in Ch.2 of Bobo's Modern Coin Magic. I sought a more convincing switch such that there would be no doubt in the spectator's mind that the coin that was dropped into the hand was indeed the same coin. I accomplished that by making certain that there was a retention of vision effect at the very last moment the coin was switched. This utilizes my original URV technique which some of you may be familiar with. If you haven't seen the URV Switch before check it out at:

Ask Magicdow. He might be able to get you a better price. No promises though.

Thanks for your interest in my book and sleights. I just shipped 3 books to Singapore as a special order to a member of this forum. I give discounts when I have more than one book to ship to the same address, the more books the bigger the discount. This is only to magic clubs and groups of magicians, not to dealers. I discount the shipping and the base price of the book with a multiple order. Books can be signed if requested.

The move looks unnatural to me. It seems that there is more exaggeration than necessary. Would this action be deemed natural in the context of a coin routine?

The Bobo switch is better suited to this particular purpose because it's more relaxed and casual. If you had to convince the spectator that it's the same coin, then perhaps you have not convinced him/her that there's only one coin?

My move is done either as a switch or a coin change as in a Spellbound routine. I made the retention part of it more "unnatural" in the video to show you the effect of the move. It can be done with less retention if you like. In fact you can do it with no retention. The move propells the switched out coin into Ramsay Fingerpalm. I find that the standard Bobo switch is less deceptive when done with large coins like silver dollars. If you are satisfied with Bobo, stick with it. :)
