Hi FarBird
I am surprised that there is a ready pool of magicians (amateurs and semi-pros) available. As mentioned to you on msn, I am going to forward the details of our Walkathon-cum-Charity Carnival to you. Here it is (extract from our letters to various organisations).
Parkinson's disease is the second most common neurodegenerative disease in Singapore, affecting 3 out of every 1000 individuals aged 50 and above. It is a chronic debilitating illness that causes tremor and stiffness of the limbs, and slowness of movement that impairs mobility. The Parkinson's Disease Society of Singapore was founded in 1996 and its goals are to raise the public awareness of this disease, to provide support for patients and caregivers of this disease, and to promote education, research and other activities relating to the prevention, diagnosis, causes and treatment of Parkinson's disease.
The Society will be celebrating its 10th anniversary this year with a Walkathon cum Celebration event on 2 September 2006 (Saturday), from 8:30 am to 1:00 pm, at Bishan Park 1. This is the first time the Society is organising a walkathon to help raise funds for the Society. The funds raised will be used to further the Society's objectives in promoting public awareness of Parkinson's disease, providing education to all, and to empower patients and caregivers who live with this disease.
We thus need donors, volunteers, and participants to help make this fundraising event a success! Pledge cards for donation will be distributed from 1st May 2006 to 19th Aug 2006. On 2 Sep 2006, the walkathon is open to all members and friends of the Society, and anyone who has an interest in Parkinson's disease. Participants on wheelchair or using walking aids, children and senior citizens are all welcome to attend this event. At the end of the walkathon, there will also be a concert and some games and activites for the participants. We will also be holding an exhibition on Parkinson's disease.
The Society is looking for volunteers from performing groups to assist in the Celebration Concert, e.g. songs/dance/magic performance/balloon sculpting etc. As the concert is open to all members of the public, our performances should not contain sexual or adult content. We also need a volunteer compere to host the event.
Time duration for the magic performance is flexible, preferably at least 15min but we are open to further discussion with the performer.
Thanks for linking us up with the magic forum.
Regards,
Diana
