Title: Close-up Pad/mat

CyberMew - April 29, 2006 11:43 AM (GMT)
Does anyone knows of any other alternative? Like those in cars pads for placing items?

And where can I get them('original' or 'substitues')?

LarryDK - April 29, 2006 02:32 PM (GMT)
Those mats are very good. But if u looking for other alternatives, try to get the clothes that is similar to the billiard table, forget what is it called.

:)

Velvet?

<Aaron> - April 30, 2006 01:53 PM (GMT)
sponge? definitely sponge. you know those ironing boards accessories that you see in the household dept? yep, those wonder mats that are suppose to help grip the clothes. get that. it's long and it's exactly the same as a close-up mat.

just find an excuse for the iron board thingy! ^_^

No, A good close up mat is not made of sponge. I think its Velvet. But need a better quality than Velvet, I tried before. Its quite expensive, consider that its not as thick as a good close up mat, unless you use it to put it on a table, then it will be fine, and good to use. :)

Close up mats are relatively cheap! You don't have to get a Trevor Duffy best of the best range but a normal one will do... else find a large mouse pad that's got a single color cloth design or something if you are really broke

CyberMew - April 30, 2006 02:43 PM (GMT)
Thanks for your suggestions, I go see see and see how.. maybe in the end I get http://www.ellusionist.com/order/apollo_cl..._pad.htm?cat=51

Is that one good and value for money? Maybe LarryDK is referring to this?

bigbadwolf - April 30, 2006 03:45 PM (GMT)
does IKEA sell mats like those?

Ning - April 30, 2006 04:15 PM (GMT)
Nah... highly unlikely. I know of people who make do with large mousepads but I think undoubtly, to most cardicians, the Trevor Duffy one is still the best since it's highly durable, easily rolled up and transported without damage... and washable too.

Not sure about the close up mat from E ...but maybe Larry knows and has something to say :)

exohordon - April 30, 2006 04:49 PM (GMT)
If you can afford it, go for the Dean Dill mats.

For card work, the Trevor Duffy mat does take some getting used to.

dtjk - April 30, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
I bought my Trevor Duffy from Ning like nearly a year ago. Its been serving me really well.

I have it rolled up so I can put it nicely in my cupboard. When I need it, I just take it out, unroll it, and it simply lays flat on the table.

You can roll, fold, wash, thrash, cut, slice, burn, freeze, bite, eat, grind, or whatever you can think of. Its totally INVINCIBLE and INDESTRUCTABLE. The 2nd best compared to a Black Box.

Okay, I'm just for real for the "roll, fold, wash" part. And yes, to conclude, its a really good investment, unless you're quitting magic tomorrow, or next week. ;)

LarryDK - April 30, 2006 06:46 PM (GMT)
Well said, dtjk..

Hmm I went to Ikea before, dun have anything that is really feastible for such kind of mats. But if u go spotlight, you can find tons of it, for different prices.

But all have been spoken, if u looking for long lasting one, get the good one. Mine sucks to the core, the "sponge" type one, its good, but it turned yellow and when u roll up too long, it become curvy, good for woman, but not for magic.. :) And it take up dust easily.

Think about what u going to do with the mat, and get one that suits u the best, i thinking of getting a bigger mat, like 18 inch?.. Maybe. So that i can do my card routine without having the cards fly out of the mat.

Wuahahaha... you forgot the bit where if you make a suit out of it, you can even survive a nuclear bomb  Glad the mat's serving you well Don!

Trevor Duffy like too small lol, but for the Dean Dill where to get info on it?

Magicdow - May 1, 2006 10:11 AM (GMT)
I think you're refering to the small size mat. The bigger mat is actually quite a standard size.

As for Dean Dill's pad, it cost US$75

woah...

how much is a Trevor Duffy?

Markiebeth - May 1, 2006 10:39 AM (GMT)
$40-$45 should be the going rate unless you can get a nice dealer to give you a discount :) *stares at Ning*

sand king - May 1, 2006 10:43 AM (GMT)
since we are in the topic about close ip mats, anyone knows where I can find a GREEN coloured close up mat? I usally see red or black ones.

Ning - May 1, 2006 11:49 AM (GMT)
LOL... There are various colors for normal close up mats. Trevor Duffy ones only come in solid black... but the quality is obvious :) I guess that's why people who do cards and coin work value it as a worthwile investment.

Just go to www.murphysmagic.com to look at what's available. Do a search and it'll show up. PM me if you guys need anything... whilst the May Day sales are still on lah.

Cheers ^_^
