Thursday -.- I can't find it anymore.

LarryDK - April 30, 2006 08:06 AM (GMT)
For those that are concern about this new, here is a write up by a newspaper, it seems that David is able pull off his sleight even under such a pressure, a true magician indeed he is. Here is the write up:

David Copperfield Used Magic While Being Robbed
"Magician David Copperfield and two female assistants were robbed at gunpoint on Sunday night after a performance in West Palm Beach, Florida. At 11:15 pm, the illusionist and his assistants, Cathy Daly and Mia Volmut, were walking back to their tour bus when a black car pulled up beside them. According to a statement issued by Copperfield's representative, "At first we thought they were just more people wanting autographs. They told us to give them money and our stuff. At that point we realized that there were guns in our face." His assistants handed over money, plane tickets and other various items. Copperfield turned his pockets inside out to show he had nothing on him - a sleight of hand by the illusionist - who later showed police he was carrying a passport, wallet and cellphone. As the assailants drove away, Copperfield and Daly took down the car's license plate numbers and called the police. Officers quickly arrived on the scene and captured the suspects, who were later positively identified by the victims. Police say four teenagers were arrested, charged with armed robbery and held without bond and all stolen property was recovered. Copperfield's statement added, "I look forward to coming back to Palm Beach in the future, knowing that crime can happen anywhere, but from what I witnessed from the officers that night, we were lucky to be in Palm Beach when it did happen."

To me, I glad that he is safe from this case, another view is that he really shows what we says impromtu. Thats something you dun ask for and come to you and you have to do a sleight of hand. Now, That "reverse pickpocketing" will become really handy. ;)

Paradoxt - April 30, 2006 08:14 AM (GMT)
Hehe genius. But i never pictured him as an impromptu person. He's more of a stage and non-close up person.

LarryDK - April 30, 2006 08:26 AM (GMT)
Nah, his early career, He is a close up magician, he also did effects like the floating rose, floating wand, doves production. So he sells his effects well and market himself well before he develop his own effects, owning effects. But seriously enough, he deserved what he has now, for all the hardwork he did in his early career, those magic effects that he created, is simply genius.

Also, I heard that he have a musem of magic in forget where. But inside showcase all houdini's escape props, and also his own collection of props. Which is, WOW. And i seriously wanted to visit him and that musem for a big eye opening. :)

Gurrh.. LarryDk you beat me in putting it up ):

Yeah, stupid robbers... don't they know that Copperfield can fly ;)

Paradoxt - April 30, 2006 02:13 PM (GMT)
We all can fly. Its just how painful or fatal it is when we land.

Ning - April 30, 2006 02:35 PM (GMT)
What if its a promotional gimmick? What if... He really didn;t have anything in his pockets then? :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r:

..heehee...

Paradoxt - April 30, 2006 03:51 PM (GMT)
THE ALIENS HELPED HIM!

Vic - April 30, 2006 05:00 PM (GMT)
Lame. But well. It may be a promotional gimmick. But who would volunteer to get themselves jailed for a small sum of money from copperfield?

Ning - April 30, 2006 05:52 PM (GMT)
Nay nay nay... what IF they really got robbed BUT he just didn't have anything in his pockets then? :ph43r: Afterall, he has TWO personal assistants witth him then right? :!!:

dtjk - April 30, 2006 06:27 PM (GMT)

Spoken like a true Copperfield fan, Larry :P

I still seriously love the man... if only, only, only, he'd come back to SG for another stage performance...

Well, a girl can dream right? <_<

Paradoxt - May 1, 2006 04:18 AM (GMT)
I saw his one. Sat first row right in front. 2 seats away from the guy he teleported.

iamthewalrus - May 1, 2006 02:29 PM (GMT)
Bringing this whole story to Singapore, do you think any of our magicians, or us, can do the same thing?

Most likely we'll just give them money and siam and call police.

Alternatively, we can kung fu them with some magic props like escape handcuffs and blind them with mentalist blindfolds.

But even though Copperfield does rock, the whole thing could be a major publicity gimmick. Imagine: his agent approaches some ang mor ah bengs to pretend to mug Copperfield and bribes the whole gang because he's afraid the magic world is too crowded already. Copperfield is on the verge of losing popularity to the new guys on the block!

It's quite true. Last time there was only Copperfield, now got the other David guy, Criss Angel, Derren Brown, and so many young punks, esp from Singapore. Copperfield needs a publicity stunt.

LOL...yup. Copperfield was surfing the internet one day and he came across SMC and was so shocked by the up and coming talents we have he called his agent and arranged for the publicity stunt immediately. B)

Maybe Aloy. Is there an IP tracker to this site? :D. Really, Copperfield is getting old, really. People are now more amazed with less of the drama mama and some magic which are small clean and simple. Nothing grand anymore like it was in the past. So he did a sleight of hand of course. Nothing grand. :D

LarryDK - May 1, 2006 11:37 PM (GMT)
Oh people, let him off man. He's old, dun bully an old man. Haha!!

Maddened - May 2, 2006 04:35 AM (GMT)
Talking about has-beens, Lance Burton anyone? Or this other guy that was about around the same time... Some fella who can't talk, does stuff with billard balls, wears a suit (like Burton)... Anyone can recall him?? Heh...

Aloy - May 2, 2006 05:06 AM (GMT)
Woah!

I really WOULD NOT call either Copperfield or Burton a "has-been".
Even with the emergence of all these new street camera-magic, Copperfield's drama-mama still is very inspiring for me.
And don't say till Copperfield is lao kok kok lah. He is just reaching mid-life, which is actually still quite young lor. And he is still very active performing.

And Lance Burton, that man is like Da Man in magic man. And he is set to go down forever as a legend. There are very few magicians as respected as he is. Has been? No way dude. He is still in top form with constantly sold out shows.

I can't place the other person you talking about Maddened. Someone who can't talk? As in speech impaired? Or just do silent act?
If it's a silent act, it does remind me of Valentino. I remember being quite impressed by his acts in the 90s TV magic specials and his tux look does make him look like Lance Burton. But we all know what happened to him. ;) B)

LarryDK - May 2, 2006 08:43 AM (GMT)
Valentino..

Wah, A Long Lost name. He appears in TV in the past, but dun know hows he now.

Dude, he's the Masked Magician. :ph43r: :ph43r:

Maddened - May 2, 2006 11:24 AM (GMT)
 Masked Magician!!

A little general information. Valentino's (the actor, not the bash-worthy magician) real name is.... *takes a deep breath* Rodolfo Alfonso Raffaello Piero Filiberto Guglielmi di Valentina d'Antoguolla.

I am not kidding.

Aloy >> I'm a big Copperfield fan! I went for his last show in Singapore (though I hope it won't be his last) and I actually bought those cheapo looking TV specials of his from like TS Video or whatever eons back.

Heck I'm contemplating performing his version of the floating rose for my mum come Mother's Day (though I wish I could have the guts to do it for a chick )

Lance Burton - Good point. I forgot he's still at Monte Carlo (you don't get better than that!). I take it all back. I loved his disappearing F-16 (14?) though, and his roller coaster escape. Whoa!

The other guy... Grrr... Daniel something? Paul... what? His shows were broadcasted here around the same time as Burton's. Forget it. Probably not worth remembering. Heh... He had a deep voice, a large jaw, but couldn't patter to save his life.

I hope Copperfield will produce another TV special again. Sigh... I miss the guy. :( He was responsible for getting me interested in magic in the first place.
