Anyone has this book? I'm interested in it but considering that its expensive, i was wondering if there's anyone who already has it and can give a quick review so that i can make up my mind.
Thanks.

Swami and Mantra are basically magic sheets (mini-magazines) that ran from January 1972 to July 1977. While inside thse sheets you'll find assorted tricks (from card tricks to bizzare magic), the main selling point of these sheets was the "body magic" section. It involves gross stunts like eating glass, razors, drinking acid, nail into nose (as seen in Derren Brown's Trick Of The Mind), Brahmo Thread mystery (as seen on David Blaine's TV special), needle from eye to eye and many more! Oh yes! Fire Eating!! How could I forget!
A good collectible and read for those who are interested in reading about methods to those strange Fakir feats and other stuff. Nevertheless there are also good magic routines inside too.
Expensive, yes, but it is a great buy for those who want to perform something "different".

just wondering if the body effects are practical?
llamalamer - May 4, 2006 03:03 PM (GMT)
Body effects are actually practical depending on what you are doing. If you want to eat fire, that is not mpromtu of course. But there are impromtu body effects in the book.
Eg.
Take a saftey pin. Run a lighted match across to sterilise it. Then pierce it through your cheek. No scars, no blood!!
That is impromtu I guess.
It all depends on how you define "practical". If you mean impromtu, yes, there are impromtu body effects.

that's is pretty extreme magic....but isn't swami mantra an old magic magazine? I remember seeing it in one of the penguin magic videos.
The magicians in the past do these type of stunts one ar? haha

It is an old magazine. (I wouldn't call it a magazine, a magic sheet rather)
These effects are NOT performed by magicians of the past. But rather they're explaining the methods of the indian street performers who do weird stunts to get crowds to give them money. That is just ONE of the many things they have in the magazine.

erm actually im pretty much interested in the body effects, do you use them often?
Sorry if this may lead to exposure, but do you really harm your flesh at anytime of the effect?

How does the content differ from swarmi in 13 steps to mentalism?

The swami chapter in Corinda refers to NWs and NWs alone, but here Swami/Mantra is a collection of a series of magazines that deal more with body magic and bizarre magic.
