I know some of you might think that they reveal the secrets but did not explain it step by step BUT i still feel kinda =( What if you are showing someone on the streets and they go like " OH i saw this on SCV!"

Laymen usually just move on after knowing the secrets and satisfying their curiosities. After awhile, they tend to forget such things. Its inevitable for media to air such exposure programmes so we'll just have to live with it. Afterall, the magic world is so vast. I am sure you have more effects up your sleeves.

i watched it but it won't harm abit. All the tricks are show are quite.....ehh.. not so stunning and can be explained with logic.

I saw part of it but most of the tricks require gimmicks, eg: coin bite, cigarette through coin, levitation or Fly Resurrection etc... I think we in singapore don't usually do such tricks to people.

So no harm done, you can still show people those sleight-of-hands tricks to baffle them.

I posted a topic here long ago about this. And yeah, mostly gimicked. With the exception of 2 card monte though.

Due to exposure from media my usual start up line is:

"For those who knows the secret, please feel free to shut up..."

This usually gets a laugh, and since it's being said before you even start, audience will know what to do (unless of cos you're unlucky to meet a heckler). So far my audience after watching my performance will discuss about what they saw on tv and give comments, it can be the same gimmicks but as long as your audience see different presentation they'll still feel that it's "fresh".

I know it not easy to show something that people know. You got to live with it. Try to use a different variations . Anyways, there always people who like to break the magicians code.

"For those who knows the secret, please feel free to shut up..."

I personally feel that this kind of opening statement actually implants in the spectators' mind the desire to discover the secret of the trick instead of simply enjoying.

It also indicates that there IS a secret - thus, there IS an explanation. If there IS an explanation, then how can that trick be magical? Magic has no explanation - or is that a purely ideological way to go about it?

Not to mention that by asking the audience to 'shut up', well, it's simply rude.

Exposure on television has its plus points. One of them is that we simply learn which tricks have become passe and which sleights no longer fool. Is that not a good thing? Otherwise, how can we better ourselves in the art? Even school teachers have to constantly keep up with the syllabus.
