 LOL
I think this post really illustrates the increasingly obvious "generation gap" that exists between the MTV generation of younger magicians and the "old school" ones.
First of all Gabriel, you must know that this clip you posted was from the 90s. While it may be unfathomable for you now, this style of performance was the style of the day then.
But more than that, this act was meant to be best appriciated live. Thus the dramatics and the big actions which may appear exggerated for the camera. You will need to have more experience and appriciation for watching live shows and theatrical performances. When you grow up you will understand. ;)
What is there to say abt the McBride act? He is set to go down in history as a master of his craft and a legend.
His act is choreographical excellence, sleights mastery, powerful entertainment and routining perfection rolled into one.
It is a multiple award winning world famous act for a good reason.
Anyways, this "generation gap" thing is an interesting phenomenan to observe sometimes. B)

Yup. I know about that. And I do like his show. But the only think is he kind of have a weird face expression which mostly other magicians does not have.
Afterall, he did got a "Magician of the year Award" Before.

His card throwing is amazing

Well you can tell that he's a fantastic magician.
1) He has mastered his sleights.
2) His act is choreographed well.
and...
most importantly.
3) His audience claps when he wants them to clap.
That just shows that, he's got skills. Its really difficult to perform on stage.

McBride excels at choreographed, meaningless magic designed primarily for aesthetics. Produce masks, then put them away. Produce a cane, then put that away. Produce cards, then throw them around in a flashy manner.
I bet the audience is thinking, "How the heck is he hiding those cards?! He MUST be good!" clap clap clap
Mcbride contributes further to the 'vaudeville sensation', building up the audience's appreciation of meaningless card manipulation and desensitizing the very same audience's affinity for much better magic.

Haha, That is so funny.. But we have to agree that its during his time that this kind of thing is popular.
But no doubt he is good. :) His manpluations are good man..

dam..his stage effect was.amazing =)
i love the way he threw the cards, any idea what style of throwing was it?..the one that hit the floor and rebounce back to the audience
Gabriel-wong - May 23, 2006 01:40 PM (GMT)
Yeah! His card throw is good. I wonder where I can learn that?

Thanks for reminding me why I loved Jeff Mcbride so many years ago.
As for facial expressions, at least Jeff has them. Blaine just looks like this:

Except without the smile. Mcbride forever!
