I have read and understood some rules in this forum

but a few questions is in my cranium

1. If this is not an exposure site, how can this forum help other magicians to learn new tricks?

2. What is the purpose of this Forum? Just to trade and exchange old goods?


3. What are the goals and visions or the objective of this forum..

4. Why this forum was established?


I hope somebody can elaborate these stuffs for me..

You don't have to expose the trick to help each other understand a trick better. Also I don't think coming to the forum to learn new tricks is the correct thing to do. There are various resources (magic shops, online shops, etc) that do the teaching, which you can use to your advantage.

The way I see it is that the forum is a place where people come together to discuss and share their experiences in magic. For example there is a thread somewhere (can't remember which) that was discussing what to say when a trick goes horribly wrong. So I think it is unfair that u say the forum's purpose is to trade and exchange old goods. If you give a little time and explore a bit, the forum actually offers a lot of knowledge.

as for questions #3 and #4 I can't answer them. Someone else - perhaps the more senior members would be able to provide a better answer.

I think if you bothered to spend a little more time going through the sections and threads you will realise what this forum is about.

" Just to trade and exchange old goods?" - is this really all you see in the 6 sections, numerous sub sections?

For example the "area groups" or "school groups" or "events and meetings" brings together like-minded people for gatherings or events, where we can share stuff face to face and meet other "magic" people..

Also sharing experiences and accounts are pretty cool too. No matter what hobby or sports or whatever you are into, it's always nice to see other people sharing their accounts and experiences.. no?

And and.. What about reviews of products? So you could have a better understanding if that DVD or Product is suitable or worth the buy.. Unless you are darn rich and don't give a d**n about spending money that is..

Well.. And the list continues..
So.. If you are just a kid who seen David Blaine and is hot and eager to learn the "tricks", "show me the money~", you scream, then maybe this is not the place for you. But if are a magic hobbist like myself, or a magician/performer yourself, stay and look around, i'm sure you'll enjoy your stay as much as i had.

Question 3: The point of this forum is to bring the art of magic forward. Its also to improve the standard of magic in Singapore.

Hmm, Lets hope i can help to answer the questions. The originator of this forum will have the real answers for the questions.

Question 1: Many of us, beginners, as starting, hope to find something free, not because we are cheap skates or hecklers, but most of time, we wish to try on something before we know whether is it worth it continue the journey anot, thats y, when we step into this forum, we hope to see something free.

But as time goes on, and if ur interest in magic grows, u grow to realise the importance of each effects, how long each creator spend to create the effect that u use today, and then u realise that what we are doing is in respect to the creator, and a contribution to his/her effort in magic. Thus, if we expose their effects here in the forum, we are dis respecting them and think it this way, if u create this effect, and sell it to fellow magician, u wan to see ur effect on the net, free?exposed? I doubt you want.

We dun share exposure, like one of the member have mentioned, we share experience, because most of us here feels that, it is not the effect that is important, but the experience you got, the presentation you got, that makes the effect miracle. Yes, ppl can go around telling u how a ACR is done, but even if u know how its done, but u dun do it with style, audience wont enjoy. This forum does what is more important than exposure, we did what they call experience, where it cannot be traded, sell, but onli by sharing. :)

Question 2: Yes, we do have a trade market, the trade market serve the purpose of selling ur old effects that you no longer used, or books that you kept at home and u not using it anymore. Not that you are better and u dun need them, but u feel the need that, someone else out there, might need those items, might be able to do it better than u, might need to learn new stuffs and ideas. Thus, you are giving ppl a chance to upgrade themselves, widen their knowledge in magic.

Other than the trade market, we do have sections that talk about the problems that you face in ur magic life, be it a sleight of hands, a presentation, or with the audience, you talk abt it, and ppl share their experience with you on how they deal with this kind of problems. And you inturn, learnt something from them, this is something that you cant buy anyway. You can also inturn, help others that are in need, that need help to master a sleight, and u will feel appreciated that ppl look upon ur help and respect are gained. We might not have grand magicians from magic castle, or professionals(We do have in this forum) in this small circle, but we do have ppl that does magic for living, and i sure that those ppl can share their part and pacel of magic life with you, and without any returns from u.

Question 3: Our goal, is to build up the interest in magic in singapore, but not in terms of exposure, but learning experience. Breeding new blood in magic in singapore is hard, where life is in the fast pace, but we are here, to bring ppl of common interest, the magic, together, binding them together as one, helping each other to excel and in turn, bring up the magic standard in singapore.

Once again, we dun use Exposure to attach ppl, but ppl came here, because they know that they will learn valuable experience that cannot be found anywhere in singapore. And guidance from ppl that have been in the circle of magic for years or decades.

We also, bring up events that are coming up in singapore, that might involve magic shows, or busking that we can tell fellow magicians and in turn, they might turn up for those events, and learn something from the events.

Question 4: Very similar to question 3, the forum was established by a group of magician ethu. They wanted to build a place for ppl to gather and juz have a chit chat. But freq gatherings could be hard sometime, esp in singapore, thus the forum is set up for ppl that shares common goal to share their experience and even a small chit chat could be done. This forum also bring abt magicians to know each other, inturn, knowing more frenz and means u will have more help in future. But we also use this forum as a contact point, where we spread our gatherings here and ppl that wish to attend our gatherings will know and they will come down and join us in the gatherings.

The forum also strike to bring up current news abt magic in singapore or other countries, like david blaine, or david copperfield. And you will get up to date knowledge about magic, as early as possible. (sometime, network will lag, so does ppl)

In the end, in short, its the experience u are learning, which is the most important thing to magic, not juz the effect. And i can tell you, i know alot of frenz from here, that they are not in anyway related to me in life, but we share a common goal, magic is our life.

So if you share the same goal and vision with us, you will inturn learn alot of things, more important and things that u will keep with u for life.
