Title: Impressive And Shocking Close Up Magic?

blacktiger - June 9, 2006 02:35 PM (GMT)
Is there ani very impressive and shocking close up magic that will make ur audience go crazy?

nyx - June 9, 2006 03:23 PM (GMT)
Yes.

Crazyman handcuffs.

jeromefang - June 9, 2006 04:14 PM (GMT)
Crazyman's handcuff is good as its fast, simple and uses eveyday objects. Most will not be able to figure out how its done ^_^

A really shocking one, I'll have to say Stigmata, the 3rd version in the DVD. Absolutely mindblowing and really makes a lasting impression. I was fortunate to succeed it on my sis-in-law and she said it made her lose some of her sleep thinking about how is it possible. Probably my pattering jogged her mind too much Haha...

vin87 - June 9, 2006 06:18 PM (GMT)
Version 3 is ask the person to just think of a number right? what if its some other numbeR?

I would recommmend the Crazy Man HandCuffs trick as what nyx and jeromefang has included in the previous post.

The rubberbands are normal and you are left perfectly clean in the end. No gimmick and the rubberbands can be examine.

ming - June 10, 2006 05:17 AM (GMT)
I'd say Stigmata is quite shocking.
If you dare, you can try a Balducci Levitation. If they don't know how its done, it would be really scary to see. Or any other levitation for that matter. Most laypeople shouldn't know how King's Rising Levitation works.

Darry - June 10, 2006 08:11 AM (GMT)
Pyro perception is a good trick to do. Or maybe try King Rising like what Ming suggested. ^_^

jeromefang - June 10, 2006 08:24 AM (GMT)
Crazyman's Handcuff, yup no gmmicks no setups. Just plain simple rubberbands and no cleaning up ^_^

You can indeed try the Balducci Levitation if you dare like what ming said. But remember levitation is very angle-sensitive even for Kings-Rising and alot goes into the presentation. The best levitation effect to date has got to be the Icarus Effect. Its really spectacular and can be done facing the spectator. However, it'll cost you a bomb of USD 395.

vin87: Version 3 is indeed the thought of number. Thats all I can say or else it'll lead to exposure. Get the DVD its worth the money. You can read the review at the product review for more information.

You might need to get these tricks to know how to use them the way I am describing. Here are some of my favourite combos.

1) electric touch with Stigmata

2)Use M5 with electric touch

Using M5 to move ring, link to a second ring, lift the rings in the air high above everyone's heads by holding one end and leaving the second dangling to the first ring(I like to make the dangling ring spin- more visual), get someone to touch take it from you. They touch the dangling ring and get a shock and the ring drops to the ground, can't be joined together anymore. Audience think ring or watch you are wearing. Remove and do again once more leaving them stun. Then borrow a watch and stop it by concentrating hard. This always drive them crazy.

For rings, you can buy those cheap metal filing rings for a few cents at any stationary shop.

Audience can keep signed those rings as reminder of their haunting experience.

3) Just electric touch. Ever tried focusing your energy on the piece of sausage you are eating and then passing it to a friend? Friend takes it , gets a shock... and you happily proceed to eat the sausage. Strong! Very simple. And your friends gets scare to get too close to you. :ph43r:

4) pyro perception :o

5) Geek magic DVD is usually fun and strong and it brings good laughters. (Don't do this on a date)

Give them the spit cup to keep. (Just kidding) :g:

6) Liquid Metal with ultra smoke 2000
Imagine stroking the fork in your hand and it smokes and bends. Or if you want... just use electric touch. Electric touch works for almost everything. Forks can be bought at 30 to 50 cents at pasa malams. :!!:

Audience can keep the bent fork.

7) Underground and Ambitious card finisher followed by Escalator

Crimmed card placed in the centre of deck pops up through the top of deck. it is the signed card. Then, not only does the card appears on top, but this time, replaced the cards in the deck so that you cannot do any sleight moves, placed the signed card at the both of the deck faced up and half still out of the box... and it can visually be seen to move through all the cards to the top through the deck. Very strong!

Audience can keep signed card.

8) Black widow and IT

Only do on metalic objects, audience say magnet.... you proceed to do it to non-magnetised objects. Then end by levitating that object like a dollar bill and if you want... carry on with a vanishing trick or some other dollar bill trick like a simple pen through bill, etc. Just use your imagination or adapt to your routine.

9) Sinful (Criss Angel's coin through can) and Healed and sealed

Imagine picking up a used can at the side of the road, it uncrushes in your palm. Then you seal the top of can with a waved. Borrow a coin, sign it, then knock it through the bottom into the can. show both hands empty. shake can and hear coin inside.... then open the can, your audience hears and visually see the can being open, pour out the contents, and show the signed coin inside before giving them the can to examine and keep.

Audience can keep signed coin.

10) Jay Sankey's Fire Starter DVD
Strong effects for picking up girls. (I only use this on my gf and close friends though).

Especially like the one where the two drawn hearts on a card link together. Just need a marker and a pack of cards

Girl can keep signed card.

Girls can do this on guys too... if they dare

Crazyman's handcuff

ah eys, the beautu of crazy man's handcuffs. Oh at the CCF thingy, i tried doing it with armbands. you know those poser bands that supposed to be like "live strong". Those DID NOT work out. too thick. :P

Just do a simple coin vanish. or the haunted key. ^_^

I don't really have an arsenal of tricks at my disposal but what I do have though is Stigmata, which is really really the best at delivering reactions from your audience. It's visual and such a breeze to do as a performer, and if you do version 2 or 3 (3 might be better), it just blows your spectator out of the water. Really freaky stuff.

joeltay81 - August 6, 2006 03:28 PM (GMT)
cioxxx,

Get electric touch and watch your stigmata reactions go up by 10 folds. I have people accusing me of using evil spirits even when I always emphasize at the start of all performance that all that I do is purely illusions. It can get real scary. trust be.

stigmate + electric touch = screams.

You seem to be a super fan of Electric Touch, and having read your posts, wow.. rich guy.. Lol.

joeltay81 - August 6, 2006 05:54 PM (GMT)
No no... not rich. Just made some money sell fossils a few months back. That's why.

I consider electric touch one of my favourite buys of all times. And it is so versatile... so painless and easy to use, yet almost impossible to detect. If you havn't got it... you don't know what you are missing.

joeltay81 - August 6, 2006 07:45 PM (GMT)
Anyway.. if you want something that real shocks and stun people, those 10 I listed above really rocks. Better to pay for one killer trick then to get 10 that does not end in your final routine. At least, that is how I see it.

Aloy - August 6, 2006 08:24 PM (GMT)
If you have all the effects you listed above, that's a very impressive collection! B)

Do join us for a gathering sometime when your back in SG! :)

joeltay81 - August 6, 2006 08:37 PM (GMT)
I do have them all except for the smoke... which I am still wondering if I should get it. Some of the tricks like liquid metal... I am still in the process of practising and hence I will not use outside of my house. Some of the simple bends are fine though. The other tricks are fine. But I'm all self taught and isolated in Magicless Brisbane... so it might be good if someone can actually tutor my presentation skills in performing those effects. After all, magic is more about the presenation then skill... so I still have to brush up a lot. And if I'm going to perform to you guys who know the in-and-out of magic tricks... I better got to practise well.

Ahh, but I don't think I'll be selling fossils anytime soon. :) But yeah, thanks for the heads up. It does sound like a killer combination.

hoaxter - August 7, 2006 05:24 PM (GMT)

*starts digging outside house*

Joel's recommendations covered it all I think. But as I've learnt from the CCF events, one of the most impressive and shocking close-up magic you can actually do is.....

Sponge Balls!! *boing boing*

(Gee no kidding, these things do work)

What are some of the examples of combining electric touch with Stigmata ?

Erm....i'll get some fossils instead of electric touch. it seems to me that it's very shocking to magicians.

Well if you know how to do Stigmata, having the Electric Touch just heightens the impact of the effect further. For example, you have someone pick a card and have them shuffle the deck thoroughly. Then you could have them think of it and ask them to touch your fingertip.... then BOOM.

Actually just describing it has gotten me all excited. In a good way, of course. :D

If you know some simple mentalism tricks like getting a person's name. Ask them to concentrate, do ET, and then make the initials appear on your arm in front of them. Then look deeply in their eyes and tell them the name of the person.

SGD$225? Where did you get your ET from?

hoaxter - August 8, 2006 06:14 PM (GMT)
ET at penguin

joeltay81 - August 11, 2006 08:40 AM (GMT)
Got it at penguin, though now, given a choice, I would have got it from ellusionist. Here that Brad Christian gives good tips and ideas using ET.

Uh, looks like you for it before the price of ET rose from USD150 to USD200.. -_-

I personally recommend Stigmata. Really cool trick. Though i haven't get to learn it, seeing cioxxx performing a few times really get my morale boosted. Reactions he got was rather positive i would say.
