Hey all. How do you disable a 'proxy server' in firefox? I have no idea what a proxy server is and have no clue whatever to do with it. I need to disable this thing before i can download things off rapidshare.

Thanks for any help.

rapidshare doesnt always work. don ask me why, jus that the omega and alpha thing doesnt like me.

u could ask the person who upload the file to mirror it to www.megaupload.com OR www.uploadtemple.com.

proxy server depends on ur internet connection provider.

If you running in a network like ntu or np, you will need a proxy server, to link you to their internet ports and also to other services like vpn or intranet.

If you running a home based internet, it depends whether your internet requires proxy server anot.

Technically, a proxy server is often needed to allow internet to gain the knowledge on how the internet is surf, like example, if you dun have a proxy server, it will directly link to the outside world, which will not always work if ur computer is linked to the internet thru a server that might have limited port access or firewall.

As for download, most of the time, they require u to enter the proxy server of the service provider giving u the internet access, so that the program can gain access to the neccessary ports thru the proxy server to the internet to download.

I am not very sure, but I think ISPs now use transparent proxy. Proxy is required, but no configurations required at the client's end. :)

Ding!

Oldman is correct, nowadays, the service provider will do that in their server side, by transmitting a script when the connection is made and then it virtually writes a proxy into ur internet. So most of the time you wont need to set it up.

Places that you need to setup, is like private domain, like NTU, NP, or open network, like Mac or some Hotspot place.

But like some program, it doesnt recongize the script that was provided by ur service provider, so in this case, you have to ask your server for the proxy code, by calling them or emailing them, telling them that your 3rd party software need proxy server to access the network, then they will provide u the proxy code.
