Title: Black Widow
Description: Anyone got this
Sehnsucht - June 21, 2006 08:12 AM (GMT)
Hey i saw this Black Widow on Ellusionist and found the name rather interesting, but since its just another device used for vanishes, unless it can achieve something significantly different that Raven or M5 cannot, i doubt ill be really into this.
Nevertheless, anyone got it yet?
bryanne - June 21, 2006 08:27 AM (GMT)
Are you sure its on Ellusionist?
This is a very expensive device that does vanishes, transformation and productions.
So far Ive only seen this item on HP and Penguin.
exohordon - June 21, 2006 08:39 AM (GMT)
It's not released yet. Will be out later this month. For those who are interested in getting this, I am accepting pre-orders.
This is a special hold-out device that allows you to do some of the cleanest vanishes ever. Some effects include making a coin bend. Change a silver coin to a brass coin with a wave of the hand. Make a corn kernel pop in the spectator's hand. The possbilites are endless.
You can view a demo here:
http://www.hocus-pocus.com/static/clips/bxw1.wmvPm me for a special pre-order price.
For those who already pre-ordered, you will receive your black widow by mid July.
Magcially,
Zhan Rui

I don't think its Ellusionist's. Its only exclusive at Hocus Pocus. Thats what I heard

Must the performer wear long sleeves or a jacket? Can it be done with short sleeves?
mgshn - July 23, 2006 06:02 PM (GMT)
It can be done in short sleeves, I think, only if you have *really* short arms. I don't know for certain, though, because I've never seen this. In fact, very few people have. However, there's been lot's of traffic discussing it on themagiccafe.com.

LOL  Absolutely right. You need sleeves for this effect ^_^ I guess you all saw the video and poll in the other thread?

I saw the video a while ago and only just now noticed the poll. Guess I'll go toss in my two cents. (SG$0.038)

Ya, as i mentioned in the next thread. It is a confirm long sleeve effect. But depending on the device, you can do it without sleeves, thats my point of view la. Cause most pull device are too long to be covered without sleeves, but if this device does what it shows, i feel it could be done sleeveless with some addition things required. :)
But well, we can only heard it from those testers, know what they feel from the device.
Aloy - July 24, 2006 10:52 AM (GMT)
Dude...it's a holdout, not a pull. It cannot be done without sleeves.
Anyways, this is too close to "let's-guess-how-it's-done"...let's just focus on the product review yah? That is if anybody EVER buys one of these... ;)

EBAY!?
joeltay81 - August 9, 2006 12:44 AM (GMT)
Yea. How else can I get it when it is not available everywhere else now.
bryanne - August 9, 2006 12:53 AM (GMT)
You can pre-order from Exohordon. Murphy's stock are sold out. Ebay would be more expensive.
joeltay81 - August 9, 2006 12:58 AM (GMT)
Had not join the forum at that time yet, so I didn't know about the dealers here.
bryanne - August 9, 2006 01:34 AM (GMT)

I received the BW earlier in the week. I have not much time to play with it but here's my initial review.
Nice box. All black with the logo on it. Insider joke for those who read the Cafe.
Inside the box, you get the BW unit, a DVD and some accesories to let you play around with. When I first saw the device, I was thinking how do you make this work? There were no written instructions so in popped the dvd.
Darryl goes through in great details on the setup and workings of the BW. Then he goes through different effects that can be accomplished with the device. Seriously, what he goes through is just the tip of the iceberg. What you can achieve with the BW is only limited by your imagination. At the end, a bonus routine is included.
After watching the DVD, I had my first try at setting up the unit. It took me a good 1/2 hr to customise it. I am sure with practice, it would take less than 5 mins. Once setup, I put on a jacket and had a go at it. The unit takes practice to make it look smooth and good. Do not expect to have it work for you the moment you rip it out of the box. In fact do not expect a miracle in just a day or two.
I did not have much time to play around with it; only spent a couple of hours practicing the basic moves. What's so neat about the BW is you will actually enjoy practicing the moves. It's like trick photography when you make objects vanish with a wave. You can show both sides of your hands empty before and after the effects. The cleanest vanish you can have. In fact, this item is not limited to vanishes but it's certainly visual appeal just to see the items vanish before your very eyes.
The BW is one of the neatest devices I seen this year. It is all and more than what I expected it to be. If you do not mind performing in sleeves, giving in some practice, you can perform visual and stunning magic anywhere, anytime. Kudos to Darryl Vanamburg for releasing this wonderful product to the magic fraternity.

Man.....all these positive reviews is REALLY cracking up my defense.....
Must...protect...wallet.........
Have you given it some performance yet? Some reactions on layman reactions to it?
exohordon - August 17, 2006 03:30 PM (GMT)
Yet to. Like I said I only had time to play with it for a couple of hours. I will find time over the weekend to toy around with it more.
bryanne - August 17, 2006 03:52 PM (GMT)
Good review though, maybe someone can set up some SGBlackwidow Secret Forums or something to share ideas.
Aloy, just rip your wallet apart and buy the Black Widow. lol
joeltay81 - August 21, 2006 01:09 AM (GMT)
Aloy, BUY BUY BUY! :P
The black widow is really nice. You can not only pick up objects, but also place objects into their hands as well using the gimmick. It requires practise though - not a just-buy-and-use product.
