Hi ppl..Sorry if this is a repeat thread or anything..just was wondering. Is there a dress code that is recommended for magicians? or maybe not dress code, maybe a trend or fashion. Any idea?

nay, haha not really. but i will put if at black. and it looks cool too.
OH and there's no such thing as a standard dress code for magicians. you can do magic naked or covered from head to toe.

Watch your exposure.

I think a suit is always good to at least stand out a little and have a touch of formality (although just a casual shirt and jeans can ben done for street magic situations).
A black evening suit should be classic. You can play it up with a tuxedo or tails.
But colored suits should do fine now, blue, yellow, anything

My thoughts... it depends on your magician personality.
It's strange for instance, for a street guy with a toughie personality to wear a tux and do sponge rabbits, yeah? Don't follow blindly. Get what suits you
I seriously think there's no right or wrong- David Copperfield does stage illusions but he dresses quite casually at times to psychologically influence his audience to feel good with him, that he's easy going, etc instead of the whole - you are the audience and me, i'm the magician thingy...
Some people make their own costumes but that's for a reason, be it a theme or for special compartments, etc. Good luck with yours ;) Have fun!!

In order of importance (to me at least):
1 - Dress appropriately for the event.
2 - Dress to suit performance character (appropriateness permitting).
3 - Dress to accomodate methods.
It would be important to dress appropriately for the event you are engaged for; they probably got you as you fit the bill to begin with. That said, be true to yourself and dress to reflect character - you may have to accept only certain kinds of events to best be effective at it.

I think you should dress to stand out.
If you can't afford a proper suit, no fret. Paint your nails, dye your hair and do anything else that can get people's attention.

Hi Kh4Eva,
Your question of whether there is standard dresscode for magician is rather subjective. I have to say that there isn't a definite or objective answer to this. It boils down to a number of factors, namely:
- The type of magic you're performing. Stage, Street, Kids etc
- The theme of your magic. Mystifying, Comedic, Geek etc
- Your personality
- Your targeted audience
Magic is about entertaining and as a performer, you must know and understand your audience. Your theme or type of magic should always blend in with the type of clothing you wear. For example if your targeted audience are kids, naturally you'll perform more kids magic. Hence you should dress yourself up to suit such a performance, like wearing something striking to stand out so that the kids can relate to you. Wearing all black with black nails and black eyeliner is a strict No No. You want to impress your audience not scare them. Unless, that is your theme and that is what your audience wants. That you have to find out
The bottom line here is that you have to dress to suit your magic and your audience. Just as what Ning mentioned, what you wear is psychologically influential on your audience. Hope my 2 cents worth was able to help you ^_^

Yup, Thanks! Mine is usually just going out with friends then showing them a few tricks. I seldom perform to groups, unless my friends have functions or anthing. Well, Thanks a lot for your advice! =)
