Title: Fism

Maddened - June 30, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
Didn't think this warranted a thread in Events, so just asking, I know it's a long shot but anyone going for FISM this year? :P

(I'm not, but I know Ian Rowland is, among other stellar names...)

As a sub-question, has anyone been to FISM before? Share, share... ^_^

MagicalPam - June 30, 2006 02:35 AM (GMT)
I might go (unless I have last minute work issue) from my company,
I have never been in FISM before (last one was on 2003 in Roterdam),
anyway, I know that there are 5-6 persons from Singapore who will go
(mainly from IBM)

Just curious, but how much does it cost to do? Tens of thousands? :D

Aloy - June 30, 2006 07:38 AM (GMT)
Abt 5 - 7 K i suspect...for everything.

Registration for the convention is around S$1K, plus you have to pay for hotel, food, air ticket.

So depending on the location of where FISM is held, it can cost anywhere from S$3-6K, and more if you intend to compete. But of course, you'll definitely spend money on souveniers and at the dealer's table...

For me, if it is held around asia, and hits the lower end of the price range, it is worth considering attending(because of all the big names in magic, their shows and their lectures). Otherwise, at least not for now, I will not be ready to spend on it.

Wow, its seems good. Now hope for the sky to drop money for me and i will go. :)

Yea, if only budget allows.. Feels like a great big magic carnival straight out of the movies.. Hehe..

Raoul - July 2, 2006 08:57 AM (GMT)
I was all set to go.....until I actually sat down and worked out the cost. :P

Now the convention ticket would cost you over a thousand Singapore dollars....there were early bird prices, which had we signed up would have gotten us around $400 off.

Total calculation I did would be around $5K SGD not including airfare. So, no, not this year. :D

Maybe 2009. Shall we start planning now?

Plan and save perhaps?

Magicdow - July 3, 2006 01:03 AM (GMT)
If airfare is $1k, the total is about S$6k.

So if you want to save now, its $4.10 per day for the next 4 years.

Wow. Imagine if a Singaporean won the FISM...

Anyway, is there some kind of age limit? Hmm.. let me rephrase: What IS the age limit? :P

I can't even afford $4.10 a day... :ph43r: noooooo~~~

Definitely not cheap... But the chance to rub shoulders with so many names... Woo...

Have a good trip MagicalPam! Hope you'll tell us all about it when you're back... :)

Just to clarify guys, my calculations are based on:

Convention Ticket (Around 1K)
Food (400 - 500)
Hotel (1K for 5 nights, decent joint for around 100 USD per night)
Misc Expenses (2K - Buying things, getting around, clubs, etc)

You could probably survive on half my expense account if you really rough it - sandwiches (make yourself, buy bread, ham cheese, apply, voila), sleeping in tents outside (It's summer season, so possible), no entertainment expenses (early to bed, early to rise), etc.

I had also based my trip on the assumption that I would already be in Europe at the time and so would need train/bus tickets in and out of Sweden.

That being said, 2009 can be done!! 2008 for Euro, 2009 for Fism, and 2010 for World Cup! LETS GO!
