Title: "magic" Email?
Description: Could it be a virus?

muscleaxl - July 14, 2006 07:53 AM (GMT)
One of my new colleague recieved an email on Monday asking him to register himself on SMC.

But the thing is, he doesn't know anything about SMC, he's not into magic and I believe SMC doesn't send unsolicited emails to people. I am just concerned it might be some virus spreading or something.

Maybe you guys can look into it.

You are right that we don't send unsolicited emails out to people.

And we definitely don't actively seek out people to join thru emails, unless they emailed me 1st asking for information.

This is most curious.

Do you mind doing me a favour and get your colleague to forward the email to aloyeo@singaporemagiccircle.com ?

I would like to take a look at it and investigate it.

THanks for the heads up Axl!

If it is phishing, then at least we have one thing to be glad about: SMC is famous! And going places! :P

Always look on the bright side of life... *whistle*

Heh... never thought of it like that before ;) So... imitation is the best form of flattery?

Thanks for informing us about this Axl!

Maybe ask the person to forward the email as an attachment. There will be important information in the email header on the source of email.

Yeah. Singapore Medical Council etc. Just google SMC and you will find LOTS.

Definitely is Singapore Magic Circle as he could describe the home page quite accurately. I believed him as he had no reason to lie and also he simply had no interest in magic.

But one thing that I found odd is that he received this email in his yahoo mailbox, and as we know, we no longer accept yahoo and hotmail address. But anyway, he deleted the email, so no way to trace the thing anymore.
