Title: Impromptu Effect We Could Do With A Deck..
Description: ...

binaryzero_1 - July 15, 2006 01:42 AM (GMT)
Hi...I just wanted your suggestion on how if someone came up to you and ask you to do a trick, and you only have a deck of cards with you?? For me, I can''t think much, just ACR and triumph or card to pocket... :P

Incarneto - July 15, 2006 02:57 AM (GMT)
I think there is a thread started on this topic...

Well.. I would do what comes into my mind lo.. Depends if you really have the time to sit down and perform.. Usually some card changes involving audience participation... Simple mind ready effects..

I.M.O..The main thing is to entertain and have fun with the people you meet.. Don't just focus on the tricks.. Those are secondary..

Hi binaryzero_1,

Impromptu Card effects were discussed here: http://forums.singaporemagiccircle.com/ind...?showtopic=3947 Probably this will help you. I'm sure you can find out much more ideas here and come out with a few solid routines. Have fun ^_^

muscleaxl - July 17, 2006 09:35 AM (GMT)
Simplest thing to do with cards, in my opinion, is to do a simple card location... then platter to make it sound damn amazing...

If not, really, F**** a card and do a prediction...

Or really dun have anything use the "Think of a no from 1 to 10" routine... According to Banachek, it would always work on the third person you tried...

Darry - July 22, 2006 07:14 AM (GMT)
Agree with muscle, then after you do the number 1 to 10 thing you could do stigmata perhaps. Quite impromptu also.

Freeze - July 24, 2006 09:12 AM (GMT)
i'm suggesting color changes. They are enough to awe the people, if they think it's too boring, then just say, "well, it's a boring day ain't it?"

a second alternative would be this.
act enthusiastic, say this:" okay, i'm going to perform the world's IMPOSSIBLE trick" ( get what i mean? ;) )

I did this once and my friends always end up confused. kinda funny.

cioxxx - July 24, 2006 09:15 AM (GMT)
my friend asked me to do a trick for him so i did. a p**s. he went nuts.

Congratulations. :ph43r:

A pass is a sleight, not a trick.
While it CAN be presented as an effect, we certainly hope there's more variation and colour to magic than this.

cioxxx - July 24, 2006 11:45 AM (GMT)
relax Aloy, i just couldn't think of anything at that point in time so i did the pass where the bottom card changed. like a colour change. it entertained him, and that was what i was looking for at least. what's with the :ph43r: man? haha.

Aloy - July 24, 2006 11:48 AM (GMT)
It means i'm a ninja. :ph43r:

cioxxx - July 24, 2006 11:57 AM (GMT)
i suppose that's your part time job? oh well... something's gotta pay for those dvds/gimmicks.

to be entirely revelant to the topic at hand, binaryzero_1 i'm sure with some DLs and passes you could come up with something impromptu. :ph43r:

Freeze - July 24, 2006 03:02 PM (GMT)
lol now everybody's starting on this :ph43r: thing? well, actually i think sleights, if done properly, can create awesome effects. It really gotta depend on the patter and presentation.

Aloy - July 24, 2006 03:05 PM (GMT)
Erm....actually....

Effects IS sleights plus presentation. ;)

binaryzero_1 - August 1, 2006 09:57 AM (GMT)
Yap agree with Aloy, thanks for the advice guys.... ;)

Anyone thought of doing the invisible palm?

I perform my handling of this pretty often.

I find the idea of "impromptu" magic with a deck amusing... if there's such a thing. I'd rather think of it as "informal" moments when asked to do some magic with a deck.

I'm sure as with many of you, there're loads of material to do if i'm presented a deck. I for one, plan for those "informal" moments. As long as you still give the on-the-spot feeling to your spectators, I don't see any harm in structuring an informal thingee to still get strong performance pieces.

Underground is a killer impromtu card trick that is extremely, I Repeat, EXTREMELY simple card thick that you can can with a borrowed deck. It's expensive though, but once you get it, you'll be wondering why on earth you even bothered with buying it at such a high price. (because it's dirt simple)

There are another 2 card tricks that are extremely stunning. ONe simple and the other simple but long. I cannot remember the name of it, so I can't direct you to them. Maybe someone who recognises the trick can tell me the name.

The first, the long winded trick, goes something like... you take a deck of cards ... turn over to expose the top 5 cards and asked someone to think of any of the cards in their mind except the first one.. which is a Ace of Spade. She does not say anything. You then, gather the 5 cards, turn them face down and place them on top of your deck. You remind them what they have done so far and tell them to remember the card they have chosen in their mind. The 5 cards are then placed on a table faced down and given a good mix.
The magician then points to the back of one of the cards and say that he thinks that is the card she is thinking off and places it on the top of his deck. He then does a shuffle and places many cards on top of the "chosen card". He then does a cut to "place everything in the centre'. After that, he ask the audience to name their card. They name it, and the magician places a card on the table for each letter of their card. E.g. two of clubs would be, T-W-O-O-F-C-L-U-B-S. The magician then opens the top card and presto! It's the card the person thought off. While the audience is stun, the magician carries on to say that not only have he read the audience mind, but he has also change the cards on the table. With that, the magician turns over the cards to reveil 4 ACES instead of the original 4 cards seen at the start.

Killer effect! Wish someone can tell me the name of this trick. I did it to my gf, who is normally very any magic. I changed the last four cards to four cards that spelt " I" "Love" "you""Joanne". Brought about a smile on her face. I can't reveil anymore how I did it or it will be exposure.

The 2nd trick involves blindfolding oneself. Totally blindfolded (really. no peeping at all) spread the cards out in a fan on the table and ask someone to pick any card. you gather the rest of the cards and ask the audience to place his card on top. Then pick up the card... shown it to all the audience but not yourself and tell them remember the card they choose. They say ok. Place the card anywhere in the deck, and get them to do a quick shuffle. Then take the cards from them... still blindfolded... and do a one hand cut. Pretend to take the top three cards and forget how to do the trick and replace the three cards on the top of the deck again... and pause a while as if you are thinking. Then ask the audience to name a number from one to five. You count the cards off the top of the deck and the card you open is the card they picked in the very first place.

They are double killed. I usually do these two tricks together with the underground and it absolutely stuns people. It sound almost impossible.

muscleaxl - August 7, 2006 07:38 AM (GMT)
Eh... Thought of using self-working card tricks?

YOu can get the book at Borders. NO need for sleights!!

joeltay81 - August 29, 2006 12:01 PM (GMT)
As mentioned in another post on card effects, I would recommend performing "triumph" (as seen in Ninja 2 DVD). Impromptu and can be done using a borrowed deck.

Cadbury - September 21, 2006 02:21 AM (GMT)
Just to add, Devastation from Miracles for Mortals dvd is also an impromptu trick. But i think to hit well, it should be in a designed routine.

BAdmiNTon - September 30, 2006 11:07 AM (GMT)
The Power Of Poker from the book, "Dear Mr. Fantasy" by John Banon is also a great impromptu trick.I tried it on my family members and got great results.

bigbadwolf - September 30, 2006 12:42 PM (GMT)
Dear Mr Fantasy is one of the better books I have read.

Inside are mostly impromptu stuffs. His Dead Reckoning section blows me away. I did not know I can do so much with a Faro Shuffle.

Card College Vol 5 also have a number of impromptu effects. ;)

kennection - October 2, 2006 02:55 PM (GMT)
I'd jus do the Biddle Trick. :)

Lamadude - October 3, 2006 10:32 AM (GMT)
I think there is no such thing as impromtu magic. we should already have a set of magic tricks that we will perform with a normal deck, no set up required.

As Magician, we should always be ready to perform, in whatever condition and also whatever venue.

so yeah! go out there an amaze people!!!!

Can you share with us a few of your favourite card magic that you perform with a normal deck? :)

For me my favourite would be stigmata deck version, ambitious card and the ego routine.

During one of my impromptu performance a few days ago, i suddenly had this idea of a routine that combine underground and 2 other C.A.A.N routine. Its actually quite fun to combine the effects you know on the spot to come up with a routine.

binaryzero_1 - October 4, 2006 11:42 AM (GMT)
Ok , for me i love to do biddle trick,do as i do,triumph, jacksyna(ps)ces, ring on rubberband, linking rubberband, crazyman handcuff, ghost bill, harada hold stuff. And its all impromptu :P

I thought this thread is on impromptu effects we could do with a deck? ;)

And i discovered you are actually the one who started this thread haha

binaryzero_1 - October 4, 2006 12:18 PM (GMT)
OOpz..i think im drunk, lol sorri, just take the words that is related to cards. hehe :P

weezard - October 7, 2006 06:52 PM (GMT)
Usually the simple tricks that i do 'impromtu' are simple ones. It's usually when you least expect to perform like when you are just fiddling around and my friend beside me was like "show me something leh"... so usually I'll just do a classic force, ask them to shuffle their card into the deck and give them this serious look and predict their card... they always flip. Any nice one is Las Vegas Routine that leaves them scratching their heads.

Here a a few of what i do 'impromtu':
1. Twisted Aces
2. Biddle Trick
3. Crazy Card Trick
4. Revolution
5. Synergy

Cheers!

nyx - October 9, 2006 07:15 PM (GMT)
This is what i do.

1) Triumph
2) Biddle
3) Stigmata (I only have Banachek's)
4) John G's Club Sandwich & Double Monte (need to have 2 same jokers)
5) 2 card monte
6) ACR
7) Most importantly as u've done the first impromptu effect, it's time to set up the deck for slight preparation effect. By slight preparation, i mean the rearranging of a few key cards at particular positions in the deck.

Take it from there.

Oh, and i usually don't perform in if people ask me to. I must have an innate desire to do so before i'd perform.

FireBurns - March 29, 2007 12:18 PM (GMT)
Just a CRAZy idea here but I thought of doing a "Colour Seperation".
But then, it would be too troublesome and probably need a surface.

So how about a "Choose many card (of the same colour) then Patter then Cards to pocket(whole deck of the same colour)"

What do you think?

BangHao - April 22, 2007 01:57 AM (GMT)
I think Invisible Palm by Wayne Houchin is a not bad opener ad impromptu effect , very visual plus the presentation by Wayne Houchin is also very interesting and suit the effect. I think everything is perfect that trick, the sotry line and the effect. That is what I think. ^_^
