So you have devoured your Corinda, and can recite your Annemann backwards... in your sleep... with a sock in your mouth. What then?
Ask any serious mentalist who has been around, and has seen all the good, the bad, and the ugly and they'll tell you that you can't go wrong with Mind, Myth, & Magick by T.A. Waters. There's a reason that this book is called the "New Testament" to the two "Bibles" of mentalism (the two bibles referring, of course, to Corinda and Annemann).
How much: $85.00 for a less than one month old, superb condition book. Another book I have called "Peek Performances" by Richard Busch is only about 200 pages and cost $90. Whereas here you'll get over 200 full effects, 800 pages in hard cover! Egads!
Occasionally the book will do your laundry, clean your dishes, and arrange your desk for you too.
What is it: Over 800 pages full of astounding and diabolic mentalism - all conceived by one man! T.A. Waters has for years been recognized as one of the most original and knowledgeable minds in Mentalism.
In the 80's he released 21 booklets of his mental secrets, which sold to a select clientele for more than 300. Mind, Myth & Magick gives you all this extraordinary Mentalism and additional material, revised, updated and extensively illustrated in a fine hardcover edition.
This monumental work contains over 200 effects of Mind Reading and Bizarre Magick, along with extensive re-examinations of psychometry, billet work, book and symbol tests, fortunetelling, Tarot and other classic topics.
How is it: I have had this for less than a month. And since I had to rob two old grannys for the money to get it, I treated it like it's a baby. Condition-wise, it's darn good, if not like new.
Content-wise... Honestly for once, the advertising spiel lives up to its name. I won't guarantee that you will use everything in this book, but you will use something, in fact, you will use a lot of things. Most of the card mentalism that I do comes from this book. As mentioned, sprinkled around the 805 pages are bits on billets, cards, impromptu mentalism (oh so important...), improvements on well-known principles, progessive anagrams (which was actually one of the reasons that compelled me to buy this in the first place), cold-reading, psychometry, and bizarre magic.
In terms of originality, Waters has to be one of the most prolific and creative people in mentalism. He has a principle where he refuses to perform something that someone else is already performing, thus he comes up with his own rountines.
There are only so many principles in mentalism, but to see how Waters combine them to create so many mystifying and original mentalism, is to truly see a master at work. "New Testament" indeed.
Anything else: Well, this is the 4th edition, which comes with an index at the end. This may sound silly, but the index helps a heck lot in looking up things that you know is in the book, but just can't find. Like who the heck wants to be flipping through 800 pages for that one line of explanation for an effect you're about to perform in 5 mins time but suddenly had a mental block about? It's hard-cover, with a dust jacket that I have been keeping separately since Day 01 of my getting the book, so that too is in great condition. I used bookmarks, so no dog-ears, no finger print stains.
I do have to say that the "spine" has been broken in a few places. This isn't physical damage to the book, just that some pages open easier than others. To be it simply, most books won't sit flat on the table because the binding at the spine holds the book closed. With the spine broken, the book is still fine, only know it can be placed flat on a table. Since this is a hard-cover, there are no marks or creases on the book anywhere even though the spine is broken.
So why are you selling it if it's sooooo great? Good question. Firstly, it is thaaaaaaat great. As for why I'm selling it, it's because I need the money for something non-magic related. Having over-spent this holidays on magic and stuff, I now find that I may need to rob more grannies since school is starting. Call me lousy at financial matters and you'll be right. Anyway I still intent on getting a copy of this in future (of course man! that's like, not even a question... duuuh...), but right now the money is more needed somewhere else. And so I'm selling this. *sniff*
Ok that's it. Longest sale post ever I know. Anyway PM me or just post any questions here. I'm open about everything so if you're worried about something, feel free to ask. Just don't tell me to lug the book down to like Boon Lay so you can take a look at it and then expect me to lug it back. 800 pages ain't light.
Thanks for looking. ;)
