What's the size? Is it 3"? What material is it made of? Thanks.

Aloy - August 2, 2006 06:14 AM (GMT)
I am actually quite tempted but I'm quite scared that if I buy it , they will change the coin design at the end of the year :ph43r:

When was the last time they changed the coin design?

Pseudo - August 2, 2006 06:28 AM (GMT)
I've seen and felt the coin few weeks back. I don't know the kind of metal being used to construct the coin but for sure I know, the coin won't oxidize.

I doubt Singapore will change the design on the coin anytime soon. Even if they change it, people will still reconise the Singapore coin.

I'm really tempted. Even if I don't use it for magic it looks really good. Saw it in real life too. Crap man...

I'm sure the coin u see is of a different quality. This coin was not released to any retail shop and $15 is way below cost. :D

I also support cynwell.

From a engineer view, to make such big coin, using good material, is not cheap, juz the material itself could be expensive, (you wont want ur coin to have a big dent after you drop right). And the machining to make it, i think the price set is fair enough, and cynwell making the effort for everyone to have such a coin, i think he deserve it.

Anyway, unless one of you went to make 1 million pieces of it, its near to impossible that you can get it at $15 each.

Even an american half dollar, jumbo size is not that cheap. I dont think that singapore jumbo coin will be cheaper.

binaryzero_1 - August 4, 2006 05:40 AM (GMT)
Maybe it was a mistake, coz i went to the shop wit my friend the auntie say its 15 to me i remembered, and i asked my friend again after this post started, what was the price the auntie told us and he said its still 15, so maybe the auntie say it wrongly...sorry for the wrong info, was just trying to help.. ^_^

The coin is very very well-made, and so far mine has not tarnished at all, so it really is chrome. A Chrome US Half Dollar Jumbo costs between SGD$35 - SGD$40 (USD22) already, so I dont really see why this Singapore version is expensive. In fact, its actually cheap!

When my friend told me that he got such coins on hand, I was like "Oh ok, thats nice, I MIGHT be interested.." (I didnt buy it from Cynwell, but I'm sure that its the same). Next day, when I was at a local magic shop, my friend popped by, and showed me the coin. It was pure coincidence, and the moment I saw the coin, the moment I touched it, I bought it. Its that nice, that good looking, that well-made.

And recently, coin magic has been so much fun.. :P

For coin workers, serious or not, if you got the cash, go for it. Its simply so much fun, and if you already do own a Jumbo US Half and think its sufficient, let me tell you, the reactions are totally different; way way stronger.

just curious, isn't that illegal to duplicate a singapore coin no matter what size is it.

hoaxter - August 4, 2006 07:05 PM (GMT)
???? hmmm sellling replica coins is illegal in singapore same goes to copied vcd dvd....or isit sold by singapore mints itslef?? jus wondering....

LarryDK - August 4, 2006 07:28 PM (GMT)
I know someone bound to ask you. Well, hmm, have to wait for Cynwell to do a zoom in the pictures.

If i not wrong, the coins look almost like singapore 50 cents, but there are some parts that tells you it is not the same.

I mean, unless you compare the 2 coins, or else you wont notice anything weird with the jumbo coins.

Then I might as well say that all your gimmicked coins (even if they are US coins) are also illegal. B)

cyngapore - August 5, 2006 05:30 AM (GMT)
The only major difference is that the coin is not milled at the sides and that the details on the jumbo is better than that of our local version. Take a look at the first picture and you'll see what i mean

I think most probably this jumbo that you are talking about is the US half dollar version. For ours its the local version.

Wow, this is pretty freaking cool, especially given the high myopic rate of many of the people in this land of wonderfulness. Thanks, Cynwell :D

Oh, and if you're worried about it being illegal and all that- just magically make the words SPECIMEN appear on the coin. A classic (and literal) textbook example ;)

well, if you dare. just try to show the coin to MAS. and see what they do about it. i don't think it is illegal in the US. in the US, there are machine that flatten the penny to a design like disneyland for u to keep. but in singapore, you are not allowed to do that.

i am not trying to challenge you or something. i just want to let people who own these coins to becareful andnot to get in trouble with the law. somethings are not worth to be jailed or charge for. yeap!

peace :)

to entertain. to amazed

cyngapore - August 6, 2006 06:06 AM (GMT)
I dun think it will get into any trouble, firstly when i brought it out thru the customs by hand, the dude there just checked me and let me pass, 2ndly its not an exact replica of th coin. The edges are not milled and there is no S**GA***E made at the side of the coin. Lastly nobody makes counterfeit coins as its too costly. Lastly its larger than a normal coin and everyones knows that. You'll pass the test by saying that its a novelty. I performed it to the P**i*e the other day and they were impressed and didn't even bother about it, i'm preety sure u won't et into trouble

jemarcus - August 11, 2006 02:57 AM (GMT)
Anyway, in a worst case scenario, that the law does confront you,

1. say you're oblivious to the law.
2. get a warning.
3. have your coins confiscated.
4. you're safe.

As simple as that.

However, the S***ap*** p**i*e have been known to jail people for not changing addresses on your I/C .

Anyhow, the coins are safe for performance as long as you're not intending to use them for purchases.(Provided that merchant is a nutcase).

My 2 cents.
