Another item on the E shelves,

Is this genre of DVD worth the dollars? I never buy a video that is based on the topic "theory of magic" before.

There are only 2 effects in this DVD, the rest are mostly tips and advice. (Paying US$25 for advices is quite ex)

Anybody can shed some light on this?

I have never been a Sankey fan so I won't comment on his new release.

However, a worth of a book or dvd is not solely based on the number of effects taught. The lessons you pick out from the material is what matters most.

Take the Tommy Wonder dvd series for example. Most of us may not even attempt a single effect from the entire series but the lessons in misdirection or direction is well worth the price of the dvds. Not to mention seeing Tommy Wonder perform.

This is also probably why books like Maximum Entertainment, Win the crowd and Strong Magic are so recommended by many. Knowing effects is one thing, performing effects well is another. Have a staple number of effects to perform and improve on those. There is a lesson learnt each time we perform the same effect over and over again. Just don't do it for the same audience.

I'm ok with Sankey although not a huge fan. If it's magic theory you are looking for, it might be better to look to books.
I think it's a little strange to have a DVD on theory, because I'm not sure that's the best media for that topic. To have a DVD of just talking? Would that be a little erm...sleep inducing?
Strong Magic is about 400 pages. Even if there's only 1/2 the material in there, that's still about 200 pages of content. That's A LOT of talking. :D

If it's theory and principles you are looking for, I suggest you really look to books. Even in Tommy Wonder's DVD series, the content on the reasonings and principles are maybe about 1/10 of what's in his books. Maybe even less....

So yah...if your not fasinated by the 2 effects they teach, then it's better off sticking with books for theories.
