Tommy Wonder was awarded the Theory & Philosophy Award, which was accepted on his behalf by Dick Koomwinder.

After obtaining 62 percent of the general vote, Beijing, China will be hosting FISM in 2009.

So 2009 will be in China....very cool. Shall we start saving?

Lee Eun Gyeol also seems to be doing very well for himself....I guess we were lucky to have seen him at IF'05.

Great! FISM in China should be affordable...

And yes, Tommy Wonder's award does seem overdue.

Will all charges be changed to "Ren Min Bi"? Instead of USD..

GordonLi - August 9, 2006 01:25 PM (GMT)
It's political really, all the countries want to show that they are giving China a chance to prove their worth. And also to show that they will allow an Asian country (and in this case, a potential giant) to hold important events.

Otherwise, there will definitely be better hosts ( i think) for Fism 2009 and even the 2008 Olympics.

Magic can traced back to China, so probably, its just a return trip.

ming - August 9, 2006 01:54 PM (GMT)
Why not China?

Dragon - August 9, 2006 02:03 PM (GMT)
Beijing is in China my friend...

Well, at least it's in Asia so we won't feel outta place. Anyway, the reason why it's in Beijing has no particular reason really. Perhaps it's pulling strings and all, but anyhow it's all strictly based on votes.

ming - August 9, 2006 02:07 PM (GMT)
er.. What I meant was, what reasons are there against China hosting FISM?

There doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

Maddened - August 10, 2006 03:04 AM (GMT)
Small point here, but since I'm like the only warrior advocating this, I'll point out that if you look at the winners of the Mentalism category, 2-person mentalism is still the best and still rock the most.

As for China being the next host, I don't see why not. Beijing is a beautiful city, things are cheap there, by 2009 the infrastructure would already be in place due to the 2008 Olympics, the exoticism factor will draw more people, in terms of international visibility, China has one up over smaller European nations Austria for instance, and everyone wants to get into the good books of China because of the potential market there. So I say all's good man.

I'll only start questioning seriously if they voted Singapore to be the next host. I mean yeah, I'll be darn happy, but huh?!?

So in 3 years, maybe I'll be able to go to FISM too. Yippee!

Even without the formalisation of the award, Tommy Wonder has long been regarded by many around the world as a authority in this.
But like all great artists, their genius is most acutely realised when they are no longer able to give us any more works.
