:P :P

To me they are cool people with great skills...i tired to be one but failed, the moves are just too hard for me and my small hands, any tips on that? other than practicing? :( :(

If you know how to dribble through the cards, that's a flourish right there. If you know how to cut the deck with one hand, that's a flourish right there.

There really isn't any much tip other than devoting your hours to practice. But hey, coming from a guy who really isn't that good of a flourisher you can't take my word for it. I'm sure the better flourishers on this board might wanna give their 2 cents. :)

Personally, I think flourishes are nice to watch, but I tend to see them as skilled entertainers who really put a lot of practise into what they do. For me, my small hands a re a problem. E.g. My one-handed cut is more a gravity-balancing act then a proper well-controlled cut because my hands simply too small to get a proper grip at all times. Blessed are those with big hands.

But when I want reactions, I find that the majority of card tricks do not have the same effect as some mentalism effects.

Card Tricks(flourishes included) like the ambitious, various transpositions do leave the group all excited and stuff. Even better when you do the escalator finisher, and some people just look at you in silence, probably stun and not knowing what to say.

You do not , however, hear people accusing you of using evil spirits (even when you insist everything is illusion), have people afraid to touch or come near to you (Like those who get frighten of levitating objects) Girls tend to freak out and keep their distance after a demostration using ET tricks. My gf freaked when I just did a simple levitating bill in front of her for the first time. She refused to believe it had nothing to do with the paranormal until I showed her step by step how it was done. (No choice, if you have to choose between keeping your gf or exposing a simple levitating bill trick)

I'm looking for reactions like those you get from mentalism above. I don't see how people can get the same reactions from florishes even if you are the world's best flourisher. People just think, "WOW! This guy is good".

Maybe the more flourish you do, the more people will think "this guy is skillful" and the less they will think "There's something scary going on around here".

At the end of the day, I get more satisfaction out of the latter.

What do I think of flourishers?
They're cool~ ^_^

I think all of us (magicians) knows at least a flourish.

In my opinion, flourishes should be minimized (or totally avoided) when performing magic as flourishing rises suspicion and the reaction won't be as good.

That aside, flourishers are cool~ :)

I think flourishing is an art in its own right, which has developed away from magic.

Although i don't flourish myself, I have always been quite fond and proud of the flourishing scene in Singapore, which is among the best in the world.

However, from experience, such discussion topics usually gets a little touchy about 8 posts down the thread so I'm just gonna close it here in the spirit of mutual respect. B)

P.S. And for the oh-so-creative-and-funny among you, please don't go and start another thread with the title "What Flourishers think about Magicians?" ok? B)
