Effect

"Duvivier is absolutely diabolical with new techniques and interesting with new presentations. Learn his work before someone fools you with one of his master pieces!"
-Bob Kohler

"A visionary creator"
-Gaetan Bloom

"The most creative and the best close-up magician i have ever seen."
-Paul Gertner

Dominque Duvivier is already considered a legend by his peers. a self-taught man, his magical background is out of the ordinary: he is an amazing inventor (he has created thousands of tricks and groundbreaking sleights), the founder of Paris's famous Magic Pub/Cabaret, The Double Fond, and the owner of the oldest magic shop in the world, Mayette Magic Moderne (founded in Paris in 1808). This passionate man is also a relentless worker, who will never stop pushing the envelope of the Magical Art.

THE REVIEW

Who is he? ...Flourishers here know him as THE man with ALL the Jerry Nuggets, and any self-respecting cardician knows him for his excellent card sleights and originality! Meet, close up genius, Mr. Dominique Duvivier!

What you get:
Like the first in the series, this DVD is in French with Alexandra Duvivier doing a good job with the running commentary in translated English. Likewise, Jerry Nuggets are used for all card effects ;) This is a solid 3hour+ DVD that comes highly recommended after you've watched the first one. There's no direct link actually, I honestly find this one a bit better than the first as it has more creative material and a bit more variations.

What you need:

Similarly, a decent knowledge of the basic sleights would be good enough.

What happens:
Duvivier shows and explains more card work and coin effects, some snazzy openers, powerful stuff with the humble himber wallet and a very wicked chop cup- cups & balls routine! You see quite a few classic plots reinvented like his variation of oil & water, etc.

The cups and balls routine was something I appreciated as most teach-in videos teach using the chop cup in a 1 cup routine but Duviver teaches his routine which uses the chop cup in a 3 cup routine.
This routine itself is very different from the Dai Vernon version, which is the most common root version we usually see, in both technique and principle.
There are some very interesting penetration moves and besides the chop cup, there is something else quite strikingly different in the principle about his routine and most other cups and balls routine. I cannot say too much here without exposure but let's just say "there's 5 instead of 4", for those who knows what I mean. ;)
And besides the final loads, the spectator later realize a 4th cup has appeared on the table. They don't even see it coming! I honestly didn't!
This particular routine might not fit everyone's performance style but Duvivier's take will surely inspire ideas for your own cups & balls routine and make you rethink some of it.

Again, there is a lot of attention on the use of subtleties, which makes this DVD so worth it, and the instructions are clear without wasting time on basic sleights.
Out-takes, an interview and a photo commentary with famous magicians are included as bonus material in the DVD. Like the first in the series, this disc also has a special credits section that gives detailed recognition and credit to the various originators of specific sleights, which were used in the DVD. I found this to be very informative and useful.

I'd say this DVD is a good investment to the serious performer who has gone through all the Michael Ammar/ Daryl basic instructional DVDs and is looking for something strong, unique and creative. Highly recommended!
