MIAMI (Reuters) - The man who made the Statue of Liberty appear to vanish may soon claim to do the same for unsightly bags and wrinkles.

Master illusionist David Copperfield says he has found the "Fountain of Youth" in the southern Bahamas, amid a cluster of four tiny islands he recently bought for $50 million.

One of his islands in the Exuma chain, Musha Cay, is a private resort that rents for up to $300,000 a week and the other islands serve as buffers to keep prying eyes away from celebrity guests on the white sand beaches.

Copperfield is coy about his reasons for the Fountain of Youth claim, but the man best known for entertaining with grand deception insists his archipelago also contains the legendary waters that bestow perpetual youth. Seriously.

"I've discovered a true phenomenon," he told Reuters in a telephone interview. "You can take dead leaves, they come in contact with the water, they become full of life again. ... Bugs or insects that are near death, come in contact with the water, they'll fly away. It's an amazing thing, very, very exciting."

Copperfield, who turns 50 next month, said he had hired biologists and geologists to examine its potential effect on humans but he's not inviting visitors to swim in or drink from it just yet.

Unbelievable......maybe the stress of doing so many shows has finally gotten to him.

Or....it could be true. Hah.

Wow.. He should have kept quiet and make it his next best effect..

Given a choice, would you want to live forever? Anyone remembers the show "Death becomes her"?

Sometimes less is more.

If it's true, then it's freaky. No one should live that long.. So even if the fountain exists, it won't work on people. :P

Anyway, I was thinking. Maybe Copperfield is really just playing up for his next effect? First he creates a huge hoo-hah about it, then he showcases what the 'fountain' can do in his next show... Hmmmm.

Then he'll say it wasn't the fountain, but him. :ph43r:

I confuse myself.

by the way, "death becomes her" is a scary movie. (although it was meant to be funny) :g: I watched it quite a long time ago.. and come to think of it, it had a lot of unobvious messages. made me feel sick.

Sometimes less is more.

That sounds familiar ;)

I don't believe it -- it probably is a publicity stunt..
If not there would be a big hoo-ha in the biological science field already.

A :)

Oh my :!!: has David Copperfiled found the miracle source of rejuvenation and resurrection? I agree with Adeline. Its probably just a publicuty stunt. Because if something like this were to go public, some of the richest and most important people in the world will flock there can capitalize on it. Plus it said it was mentioned through a telephone interview. Maybe the caller was a gd impersonator. Haha... Let's keep our eyes and hears peeled. ^_^

Yeah I'm thinking hoax or publicity stunt.

Then again, if it was a publicity stunt, then I think Copperfield's secretary or PR guy would release a report to the papers, or at least "leak" the news out to more sources.

And Copperfield isn't known to be cryptic like this. If he wants to walk through the Great Wall of China, he'll say, "I'm going to walk through the Great Wall of China." Never in my recollection has he used viral advertising and I don't see why he would want to start, and to use such a corny story too. I'm sure the master of theatrical illusion can come up with a much better story than this one.

Here's a prediction from me: Either - Someone working for Copperfiled will come out to say this is nothing but a prank by someone; Or - We'll never hear anything about this ever again. :P

EDIT: After some searching, it seems this report was filed some 10 days ago and no more news has come out of it yet. Well, well, well...

Maybe Copperfield is thinking of opening a facial saloon or coming out with a facial cream to rival SK 2. Since nowadays too many competitions and exposure in magic, must think of an alternative source of income.
