Title: Best Effect 2006

theWeaver - August 30, 2006 06:55 PM (GMT)
Hi peeps,

I was wondering, it's already sept, and nearly the end of the year. It's time to start compiling the Year's Best Effect!

Hmm.. Maybe everyone can start by posting 2 things.
1. The best effect you tried/experienced for 2006.
2. The best effect ever~

Cheers~

My vote goes to..Electric-Touch by Yigal Mesika!

Also, I was thinking of editing the 2 points to:
- Best effect you've BOUGHT this year and state the creator of the effect.
- Best effect you've seen LIVE this year.

theWeaver - August 31, 2006 05:19 AM (GMT)
Yea, that makes sense~ Let's change it to 3 points then.

1. The best effect you brought in 2006.
2. The best effect you saw live in 2006.
3. The best effect ever~

Wee~

Best effect bought:
Basically never buy much this year.. Put it at none for now.

Best effect seen live:
Rather then saying best (since i am really in no position to say it), i would say one that i really liked is one that i saw during IBM by Mr Teo. I can't remember the name but its about a jackpot with a real 'kicker' ending! Really liked that one..

Best effect ever:
As ever, a stolen cliche from the ACS(I): The BEST is yet to be... :g:

A.

3. The best effect ever~

In my opinion:

Best special effect: E.T., M5.

Best mentalism effect:
Stigmata.

(Best Mind reading effects) K.E.N.T. and Kolossal Killer

Card effect: Biddle, Triumph

I chose these not just on the reactions received, but also considering the skill level required(the easier to perform the better), and the amount of preparation needed (obviously the less preparation the better). For these reasons, I left out other favourite effects of mine like liquid metal and black widow.

Best effect for me in yr 2006 are:

And my alltime favourite :!!: :

Crazyman handcuff

linking rubberband

triumph

biddle trick

making coin vanish ( raven) self made, lol

Ghost bill

etc.. cant remember everything ;)

Best effect bought in 2006:

Self-tying shoelaces

Liquid Metal

Best Seen Effect :

Don't know the name but it's posted in SMC previously

And........... The best winng effects nominees goes to:

Biddle

Triumph

Ambitious Card

Stigmata

Pip Matrix

Now for the winner................. *drumrolls* :

It's Biddle! Clap Clap Clap

The reason i chose biddle more to triumph is because it's easy, no preparations needed and you can do it standing up. Totally convenient and powerful effect. Triumph have the similar responses to biddle but the downturn is a table is required.

Now, how are we supposed to know what that is? :P

Ah.. I realised, i didn't add on mine.

1. Best Effect Brought 2006.
- Stigmata & Sinful.
May not be super high tech or out of the world, but to me, it's very clever.
(Wayne Houchin Rox, can't wait for his new stuff.)

2. Best Effect Saw 2006.
- Non.
(I didn't get to see much impressive stuff this year.. Hope there will be more lectures and magic shows in Singapore. Oh, Black Widow demo looks pretty nice.. Doesn't count for much thou.)

3. Best Effect Ever.
- After thinking through.. This is one pointless point, there is sooo many~ Can't even start to list..

Best Effect Seen Live 2006

Me performing SAW in front of my mirror. (it look so convincing  )

Best Effect Seen on Video 2006

Cyril's Card Thru Aquarium (how the hell did he do that? )

Best Effect Ever

How to decide? There are so many out there.

Maybe for me is "Here Then There" from Crash Course 1 (simple and yet so strong)

Best Effect Learnt In 2006:

Stigmata: Impromptu, technically easy to do, great great reactions... what's more to say? Sinful is a very close second

Best Effect Seen:

Hmm... Most of Cyril's tricks, I guess. Think I will never know the secrets behind but sometimes, it's better to retain the mystique.
Oh, yes The Snap Deal. Before I know how to do it, I was really blown away by it.

Best Effect ever (performed by me?):

Ok, it may not sound that spectatcular but my best effect is still the 2 Card Monte. Simple, easy, great reactions too.

Best Effect Learnt in 2006:
Have to be Stigmata - Totally impromptu and gets reactions always. Sinful is my 2nd in in line as well.

Best Effect seen Live:
Spun using a signed Singapore 20cent performed by my pro magic friend and it ended off with the signed coin bent with my fingers. Very visual. kudos to him ^_^

Best Effect seen on Video:
I have to say David Copperfield's Flying in his Illusion DVD. The cheoreography is so beautiful and elegant. It just gives a very memorable and magical experience.

Best Effect Ever:
Can't decide as there are too many out there

For cards, I would second both biddle and triumph and my favourite card effects. Both are easy to perform. I prefer triumph to biddle though. For biddle, I use USmoke2000 for an added effect to make the card dissapear from my hands.
