Now, I haven completed reading this sacred book. But i give a short review of what i feel after reading the first 15 over pages of this book. Why will i say its sacred? Because it contains very different thinking towards mentalism and it totally kick me off the seat thinking its just the usual stuffs. And it is something that you will value alot and read it over again to get more juices out of it.
Reading the first 15 pages make me have the first hand feeling on how Kenton feels about his performance using his method of effect. He also open up and mentioned that those that purchase this book should use his method as a guideline and eventually come out with a own routine which suits your presentation.
Some points to note that, this book is not a must have for magic lovers, its simply another way to explore magic. Don't look at this book that you will learn another mind blowing effect, but you will learn something really different from what you will see everyday. I not a great mentalism, so i cant say that its a must have for mentalsim, but it certainly set me to think differently.
Another point is that, purchasing this book gives you the right to perform his routine, which i don't know how truth it will goes, and its only meant for first hand products, which means if i sell it off to someone else, the person is not entitled to perform his routine. Well, i think thats very suggestive, but i not selling this book anyway.
Third point, Since i am not a book lover, (I am more towards video), i can say that this book is well written and provides enough information for you to visualise. (Anyway, the effect needs you to visualise also) So, it does guide you along well.
As for now, this is what i can tell from the 15 pages i read. I give further more reviews when i got more indept knowledge of it. But for the price of this book, i can alreadi confidencely say that its worth the price.
Can ask me any questions about the book and i try my best to help.
So What's your verdict? To get or not to get? I've alot of kentonistic theories floating around in my brain, so much so that I'm now feeling a little lost with overload of information. Can't remember everything.
Sometimes I really wish he produces more DVDs. It's really more visual and will certainly sell better then his manuscripts.
Hmm, once i completed the whole manual, i will conclude my verdict, now is still too early to tell.
I think its very suggestive to people, if you are mentalist that like to do risky acts, its something you can look in, if you are someone that wants to kill everytime, then this book maybe is onli good for you to read and disgest.
Okie, I finally finished the book.
Something that i noticed is that, the book is very deep, in a sense, though he did explain it clearly, the steps, but he did not go into much details about the spectators, so when i am reading, i thought he wass talking about one of the spectators he is using, but further reading, its as if he is talking about the other 10 spectators that he is using. Which confuses me at time on whether is the reaction or logic applied is on that spectator or on the spectators.
In my opinion, I will feel that reading of his other books like kentonism, Risk Assessment 1 and others are needed to really understand what he is thinking, cause this book is too deep, if you are begineer in mentalism like me, read a few more times and it will go through. hopefully. cause its all about imagination in the end.
other than that, I will say its a great book, i dun know abt his other works, but the routine mentioned inside this book provides very wide area of expansion to your own routine, which means you can use the routine in the book and cooperate into ur old routine, or use this routine as its own. Both applies. Though the routine is very open and simple, but it will need a thing that is very hardly achieve by most magicians, a lot amount of confidence in speech and stage, and i mean alot. The moment you lose it, the whole routine is going to fail.
Also this book also include a bonus routine, blindfold acts from the great artist, it gives another different views of blindfold acts to blindfold mentalist like me, or maybe others in smc, and the thoughts by Kenton himself.
Maybe i will lack of info in my reviews, but i will answer any questions that you guys are curious in, about the book. And i try to answer as much as i can understand from the book. Serious, i still quite confused now.
Add on:
Joel, I agree with you that he really need to have DVD about his performance, even a DVD with just his performance is good enough to justify those actions in the book, or else, Very hard to visualise, unless he is already training us to be mentalist by making us read and visualise.. "-.-
