Title: Where To Get A Table?
Description: Need help

Mabas - September 9, 2006 06:01 AM (GMT)
Hey you guys. Im thinking of going magic full force after the A level exams. Might be thinking fo busking somewhere. There is one thing that I think I need help with. Where can I go and buy a good table that is cheap and easy to transport as well large enough to perform at least Cups and Balls with while standing up? Looking at magic websites, their table cost at least US$100. Is there any other cheap and good alternatives?

Thanks!

Joe Lefler's Pro Suitcase Table is something worth the investment. It's not cheap but if you're going to do lots of show, it will pay itself back in the long run.

I once saw a booklet on how to build your own magic table but I can't recall where. You might try Google.

Some time back, I saw someone post a thread on the Cafe on how to build your own table. You can check that out too.

Magically,

This one is from Murphy Magic at http://www.murphysmagic.com/s.nl/it.A/id.5...c=2&category=32 but it costs US$185. I think my budget would be around S$100. Anyone have any ideas? Haa

Thanks

Unless you have a very good contact, or you make it yourself, I doubt you can find a table like that one for $100.

Since you are going into magic "full force", why not spend a little more and invest in a good one? It'll last you and serve you well.

Try to find items from Ikea, you might like to build your own table. Going full force into magic does not mean you'll need such a pro table. Especially if you're using it for busking your equipments will degrade much faster so it's not recommended for something too expensive. (I've change 4 tables in 5 years)

Idea 1: Ikea's laundry basket (about $10?), Popular's white board (about $20?), cut away the basket and you'll get a "table legs", place a white board on top to get a "table top", place a close up mat for close up stuff, marker if you're doing mental effects, table cloth to reveal "pre-written answers" on table top... all these are light items, thou not so nice looking but it'll serve it's purpose, if spoil you won't waste too much $ on repair.

Idea 2: Any music stores you'll be able to find scores stand (about $15?), depending on how you modify it, it can be use as a table or act as a hanger. Keyboard stands will give a "solid look" but is rather heavy (cost about $40?), table top will be any board.

Idea 3: Nail 2 cork board which can open like a book, 3rd board as a table top (Ikea each at $10?) very ugly, but can paste or pin as your "sign board". (too lightwight, cannot withstand heavy wind, accidentally kicking it will make it collasp)

Art Friend is selling Acrylic sheet, great for table top, can double as a white board and use for "solid thru solid" effects. (about $45?)

Forgotten to add: there's a few colour to choose from, one of it is clear (transparent).

Actually, my magician fren told me that ikea has some small tables that fit the scope of a performer's table. Small and nice. I havent found it yet but he told me he got it from there and he uses it in front of a full length mirror to practice. Whoever going to Ikea to buy table call me also. I might want to go find a table if i can make it.

Hey, thanks for the idea! That's really interesting. I'll look into them after my exams are over. :) Thanks you guys.

Maybe you want to try getting a case and the "leg" as least the case is useful enough to act as a table top, furthermore, you might get a little troublesome when you got to handle alot of stuffs when travelling.

You'll never go wrong with Kiki Tay's ProX table. Just fork out a little more and you be able to own briefcase-table for your magic performance.

Where can I find more about ProX table? I cant seem to google it.

Lefty - September 18, 2006 05:27 AM (GMT)
Sorry man, i just speak to him, i think i just bought the last set. It is a similar silver case that you can purchase at magic hall, but it comes will a "spider leg" very strong leg that can pack small.

Taken from Kiki's post on the table.

Think it is much cheaper if you get it from him.

Just some recommendations, if you are performing cups and balls its really important for you to get a table that is stable, if it was knocked accidentally, it would not fall down so easily.

Cups are very delicate stuff, once it falls it will be dented easily. Besides, get a table that has a ledge or something, so your balls would not roll of the table that easily or cups in case of any accidental knocks.

Ikea as mentioned by some of the other members is a very good place to source for good and stable tables.

As a whole, it best that you get a magic table what packs as a suitcase. Try to search around magic online shops as some tables comes with special compartments for you to do loading or disappearing items. Get a table where you can do most of your magic, coins, cards, cups and balls, etc, in that way you can use that particular table for many different uses. :)

Good luck hunting!

Looks like I'm reviving this thread. Haha.

The last time I posted this, I didn't have a table. Right now, I SORTOF have a table. It's a kid's white board that was painted and I got a tripod from cash converter. Then at the bottom of the white board, I attached a-thingy (not sure the name) that allows me to attach or detach the tripod to the white board.

Ta-da! Portable table. My only problem with this is that there isn't a space for me to keep stuff under the table as you can imagine its just a table with a tripod as legs.

SO does anyone have any suggestions on how to make/get a cost effective table that has a compartment below? eg. like a cabinet or cupboard.

The compartment is there cause I want to have things to load for Cups and Balls. Especially a big final load using a hat ala Gazzo's method.

Thanks!

I think Jeremy Pei has some really nice case. I saw the case before and i thought it was really well designed. I think you can add a servante to it. If i'm not wrong, he customizes the case so you could probably tell him what you need.

Mabas - June 1, 2010 09:28 AM (GMT)
Jeremy Pei's case is nice to have. BUT that's for those with the Cha-Ching. :D
Anyone want to sponsor me one? Or give me one as a b'day present? :P

On a serious note. I'm actually looking around at some interesting ideas on creating a table. I'll post it here if I managed to make a good one with a budget of less then $100! I'm sure I could do it for like less then $50 actually. :P

luneymooney - June 2, 2010 04:45 AM (GMT)
Mabas,

I think KA-CHING would refer to this:

http://www.murphysmagic.com/Product.aspx?id=38677

If not then, i think you might want to consider Joe Lefler tables - but they are also out of the range you are looking at.

I actually doubt you can do a good solid table under 100 with a compartment. You must keep in mind materials you're using and how the table/ compartment folds up takes quite some thought.

Good luck in your search though. Do let us know if you manage to get the table you want within the budget. I think many of us would be interested.

Hey guys,

if you are looking for a table that is relatively easy to carry, and cheap, check out Ikea. They sell a fold table that is exactly the same as the kind used by Gazzo.

nottieboy - June 2, 2010 09:22 AM (GMT)
any links or similar photos u can share with us which the table Ikea are selling?

Thanks. ^_^

Cant get a decent picture. But check this video out, the table is similar, crossed legged.

Mabas - June 3, 2010 05:42 AM (GMT)
Actually, maybe the issue isn't the table. HAHA. I just need someplace to keep the Final Loads for C&B. I don't think a Poach like Gazzo is my style.

But so far, my only solution to that is getting a Table or Case with a space/rack below the table itself to keep the loads.

Who knew getting just the perfect table for just the perfect price is so hard??

By the way, All Aluminum Suit Case Table (BRUSHED Finish) by Andy Amyx is US$1295!!! *Cough* *Gag* *Faints*

nottieboy - June 5, 2010 12:19 PM (GMT)
Thanks Alexander, went to Ikea and took a look. Not bad, the table is good for mahjong though! =D

You're welcome! Good that it helped, cos I wanted to buy that table, but I didnt want to pay for the delievery, so I gave it a miss.
