Sir

Hi, i had view your show, as a lay man this my suggestion you should place at your right side, as and when you get your props, you make a U turn.
When you do your linking ring try not to move too much i felt that your are doing "ring dancing" on stage, the appearing cane should show down, i do not see magic there, and as for Thimbles too small for stage i guess.

Sir, do not stone me, please for give me if i say something not right, thanks.

B)

Lefty - October 6, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
For my linking rings, this is what i want to achieve, i dont want to make it like too "magical" by focusing on the sleights, i try to do something more lively to entertain the audience,

Agree with the appearing cane, if you were to read my post on children day performance, everything was in a rush, mentally wasnt really prepared, i guess i speed up the whole act.

Thimbles is small, but from the respone of the audience, they actually can see it, i dont know why, on the video is blur, hmm... but not really suitable if the crowd is too big too...

Thanks for your comment, will work on it.

M.A.D. - October 6, 2006 03:33 AM (GMT)
Sir, u are humble and you will make it.

because the magic is in you.

look forward for another show of your soon... B)

I enjoyed your showmanship and you showed that you definitely have stage presence. Well done.

Hang on, I feel like a Singapore Idol judge.

Lefty - October 6, 2006 06:03 AM (GMT)
Thanks M.A.D. hopefully it will be better next time round.

Thanks cioxxx, remember to vote for me!!!

Lefty - October 6, 2006 06:14 AM (GMT)
Oh, by the way, after the silent act, there is a 20 mins of audience participation effects, might be to draggy so decided not to add in,

PS: Ling, dont tell me "Draggy" also remind you of Kumar. hahas..

Navarrone - October 6, 2006 06:24 AM (GMT)
Erm, just something here, I dun think you should shake the canes after they appeared. It destroys the image of a solid cane cuz you can see the cane getting flimsy and stuffs from the shake...

Oh yes, one more thing. I noticed that while taking out the fan and stuffs for the snowstorm, you kinda show your back to the audience for quite some time, i think you should try to avoid that. Other than that, the rest seems pretty well done! Haha, I like the way your linking rings routine.

Lefty - October 6, 2006 06:50 AM (GMT)
Haha, Thanks Navarrone, i did not plan to shake my canes. haha, it was a Sunday early afternoon show, guess everyone was rather dead, so i got no choice but to try to get some applause. Will take note next time.

Oppss...didnt realise i was facing my back, gonna check out the video again, will try not to show my butt again. :)

Hm.. Although not as pro as Benny but well.. Some thoughts on the performance.. Hm.. I feel you can slow down a little.. You would be able to drag more time? Probably cos' of the pace of the music.. That's why you hurry a lot..

Linking rings was great.. Just that I find too much of walking around? My eyes had to follow you here and there, a little tiring..

Thimbles not a problem, would be able to see live from that distance.. =) But do you think there's too much repeats of the same move? I would prefer something simpler.. =)

The main thing I realise is the liveliness of the audience.. Heard lots of "woo! wahs!" but not clappings, end up you have to cue them to clap numerous times.. Doesn't seem very nice? I notice 2 parts you showed an angry gesture for them not clapping? What do you guys think? Hm.. Maybe u can try bowing instead of cueing them?

feel free to share.. Just my thoughts =)

cioxxx - October 6, 2006 04:26 PM (GMT)
I think the 'angry gesture' was useful because they are kids afterall. They like stuff like that. Bowing might be a litte.. I don't know... it's a kid show I guess.

Incarneto - October 7, 2006 01:15 AM (GMT)
You've got a point too.. =) Anyone has any suggestions on how to get applause for silent acts other than cueing them to clap?

Lefty - October 7, 2006 12:21 PM (GMT)
Haha, thank you all for your comment, "Wa lao" Bao Long, you super humble man, we start stage together, and you even create your own linking ring flourish and thimble moves!!!!

We all shall wait for your video for this month end show!!! haha

Hmm.. I thought the "folding arm" move was quite okay, the parents actually smile when i do that, and they encourage their children to clap along. :)

I agree on the thimbles, those similar moves is because i forget what is the next moves, thats why repeat while i am thinking, haha.

Pace is certainly way too fast, alot of forumite already told me this when i post my "half way done" linking ring video, must really work on it.

already try to cut down the moving part since my last stage show, think i gonna try harder. :)

Navarrone - October 7, 2006 01:51 PM (GMT)
Watching the video again, just wondering if it is possible to combine your healed and sealed soda with airborne glass. I don't really know about the airborne glass, so i'm just wondering...

Incarneto - October 8, 2006 12:47 AM (GMT)
Yea.. Im looking forward to mine too.. But one thing for sure is that you're like 100 times more experienced lo..

zomaziz - October 8, 2006 01:02 AM (GMT)
:!!: Nice performance! I liked the video music. (irrelevant...)

Anyway, from the video's point of view, it sure seemed that mouthcoil is way more popular than the other pieces of magic.
... or maybe it's just that the mouthcoil scene was filmed in an enclosed area. :ph43r:

Lefty - October 9, 2006 01:44 AM (GMT)
Navarrone, i think your idea is really cool!, might be alittle complex to attach the two pieces of magic together, but will try, thanks!

ZOmaziz, haha, that was the last show of the weekend, the audience is crazy, they can go like , "wow!" to all my linking ring display, i enjoy performing there, but stage is way to small. Thank for your compliment, :)

Lefty - October 9, 2006 08:54 AM (GMT)
Hi all, thanks for viewing my video and your comments, those comments are really helpful for my future growth in magic.

Just to clarify things out, in some other forums, one forumite is talking alot of stuffs about me, i got to know form my friend this morning,

just to let everyone know that, the linking ring routine is not a copy routine, i do take parts of the secret session content, and i did do my own research to learn how to do those displays, and add some flourishes,

the Thimbles, i did bought shoots DVD and attended his lecture, this is one of the most basic variation that i learn from his DVD, i dont think that i am copying as i did attend his lectures and bought the DVD, furthermore, i did changes in the routine for simplicity and covering up some angles.

If someone bought Ninja rings DVD, why cant he do the ninja ring routine, isit wrong to do so? i dont udnerstand why some forumites felt do to stage act but not close-up.

The main reason why he did not post here, is because the account in controlled, and everyone knows each other, thats why he would rather stay unknown to deframe me some where else....

The reason why i post my experience and Video is to let others to be prepare of the problems that might occur during a show and some ideas of linking the props together for reference, (E.g. heal and seal coke to mouth coil to snow storm) Because i dont want to same problems to happen to the fellow new magicians who started stage like me.

If anyone felt that i am trying to show off or stuff like that, feel free to tell the mods about it or me, and we can just get the Video out, as well as the related stuffs.

Thanks alot.

Benny :)

Hi Benny,

Don't feel bad and take it too hard on what others said. I do not see any wrong doing for learning a trick and performing it exactly the way it was taught.

Cheers :)
