Title: If I Had One Chance...
Description: Choices people... choices

Ok this is just for fun... I'm pretty sure that there are some tricks or effects which you might have seen when you were younger but it's just impossible to find out how they done...even up to now.
So let's say u stumble on some 'magic genie' and he granted you one wish that he would tell you any trick or effect that you wanted. However it's just one... So what you choose.
Let me start the ball rolling: I would definitely want to know how Copperfield did that torn and restored on that rare baseball card! :g:

I want to know.. How he FLY!
(I meant David Copperfield, not David Blaine..) :D

I want to know how Houdini made the elephant dissapear.

Hmm, If its me, i will want to know one of the early effect by david copperfield.
He was locked in a safe in a building, and as the workers ran out of the building, the building collpses and fall into pieces.
Then on the center of everyone, there is a white cloth and with nothing at the btm, something surface, and out comes david copperfield. The best illusion i saw is that.

Oh i think i know how that was done... I think they revealed it on some television show a couple of years back. After I saw that I felt kind of stupid.
But I would say the method that it was really creative. :D

Isn't true that most of the 'impossible' illusions Copperfield did in his time was meant for TV only? I believe the card through window on the moving train one is one example; correct me if I'm wrong. Like it isn't possible in front of a live audience... unless all spectators are giving the 3 Stooges a run for their money.
Even so i was totally amazed by DC when i was a kid. :)

For me, I would like to find out how to perform the Card to Bra (no joke, there is really such a trick) I saw recently on the net. Hehe...
Though I suspect the gals were stooges.
Anyway, on a more serious note, I would love to know all Cyril tricks. His magic is really well, NFW.
LarryDK - October 9, 2006 05:19 PM (GMT)
No, Not all, the one that i saw is surrounded by audience.
Unless you telling me the whole audience are stooges..

That's what i'm suspecting... he made millions from tv rights yah? so say 30 stooges at US$50 each? Haha. Maybe we can pull one off by making the Merlion disappear...

It'll be an interesting sight to see it happen in Singapore though... haha. If you slow mo the vid, you can actually see the card sliding into the you know where.

Actually it was discussed before about the usage of stooges in the accomplishment of magic effects. Personally the illusions that were mentioned by Larry, Donovan and the others including the card through window in the train are pretty much known to the masses.
Naturally it would be deemed immoral if I were to reveal how the effects are accomplished though I believe some particular sources are revealing these secrets for like $25? lol.
Respect the secrets and try to keep the 'child' in you which will enjoy the magic. Magic is probably destroyed the moment you know how these wonderful illusions are accomplished :)

can the genie instead, grant me the power to do just one impossible effect?
I want to literally transpo the Statue of Liberty from her standing ground to Ground Zero (that piece of land where the world trade center used to be)
And I wun transpo back, so everyone will remember me. HAHA!!!

I'd like to learn the one where the handkerchief disappears and reappears,
all crumply too.... ;)

I don't know what this effect is called but David Copperfield does this for his Vegas shows. He basically has a member from the audience come up to the stage after a random selection process and basically, there's a LIVE video feed of an assistant who's currently in some other side of the world while they are in the theatre.
Standing on a platform in full view of the audience, Copperfield and the participant are then covered with a huge sheet and after a beat, it drops down to reveal that they've both suddenly disappeared. Focus is then shifted unto the video of the LIVE tv feed and the host/ assistant bring attention to a spot on the sandy beach they are at and two figures gradually start to form under the sheet that's been laid out. And there you have it- presto, Copperfield and the member of the audience, have somehow teleported themselves over to a different part of the world in mere seconds!
There's an emotional pull because there's someone special connected to the member of the audience waiting for him there, so Copperfield leaves them alone and teleports back to the studio :) A very nice subtlety I fondly remember is that when he was back on stage, Copperfield actually took off his shoe and pours sand out of it! It had a fabulous soundtrack and it was all very dramatic and sweet...
A part of me wishes to know how he did that (i believe the method of appearance is pretty much the same to the one he used for the exploding building act where he was locked in a safe) but a bigger part of me wants to be kept in the dark so it'd always stay a magical experience and memory for me.
God... I really love that guy. I hope Copperfield comes back to SG soon!!! ^_^

Erm... I think the US Government would ask you to pay for the transporting cost to move it back to the original position cause they are building the new WTC i guess. Haha. Not so worth ah, still have to end up paying for an effect you want to achieve :)

It seems to me that DC has made a huge impact on everyone here such that most of the things people wanna know is done by him.
Maybe he should break back into the scene... btw where is he now and what is he up to actually? Haven't heard about him in ages.

I believe Ning's description of David's Copperfield's effect is this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0h50K2NVJHM
Watch it and behold the greatest Illusionist of all time. David is really amazing. You can see how he really connected with the audience and he was able to captivate everyone. There are so much emotions and sentiments built up that you can't help but feel strongly for what is presented. There's humour, there's anxiety, there's romance, there's drama. David's really the man and I believe his name will live forever in the magic world.
Ok if a genie can really grant me a wish, I wish to experience David's Flying effect live. I do not want to know the secret but I really want to experience the emotions and drama built on stage. Its just so magical... Hope I can dream of the experience tonight while I sleep... hehe... ^_^

I would love to know how DC do that illusion Ning mentioned.. Though i would be ultra disappointed if the audience was simply stooged.. Kills the magic in my heart..
I read on his site, DC have slots for shows all year long in Vegas.. Apparently all the while he has been in Vegas doing shows. When will he do another world tour? Argh.. *mental force, come to Singapore
Ning - October 11, 2006 11:35 AM (GMT)
LOL... yes! Thanks Jerome, that's the one I was talking about  Isn't it fantastic?!?! I believe it's one of his staple acts in Vegas, so it's really amazing... Copperfield simply makes things look so magical and romanticised, I don't know anyone else who's achieved that. He's been touring and been doing stuff on TV too... I believe some of you might have caught his eye of the tornado fire feat? There may be a video of it on youtube ^_^
And yes... I wanna fly too :) ...in his arms... hehehe...

I would love to know how he made a participant's ring vanish and appear inside a rose which the participant has been holding the hold time.
The rose even blooms by itself!
Thats sick.
