Title: An Idea On Thimble Magic
Description: Just to share

yong_tianadeline - October 12, 2006 12:06 PM (GMT)
After the lecture by Shoot Ogawa, I suddenly see a lot of thimble magic being performed. Whilst joining university means that my practise on magic comes to almost a full-stop, i still think a lot about magic. :)

Seeing the thimbles, i've been wondering how one can bring out thimble to perform magic. Like for people in school, isn't it weird to suddenly take out a thimble to perform? (I mean, like how many people nowadays know what's a thimble; let alone bring it around!!)

During tutorial, i suddenly had an idea. My tutor capped his marker cap on his finger, leading to a lot laughter and my attention. Maybe, for people doing thimble magic, you could take a look at the marker caps to see if they are suitable to do thimble magic. It would be much more natural and a familiar object to use especially if you are in a school setting!

Of course, if your fingers are small enough, maybe pen caps might work too!!

A.

*Just to share. Hope its useful to people still in school who want to show thimble magic. :)

Fantasio did say the same thing too, he also mention about how rare isit for someone to know what is a thimble, good point there.

It's a good re-invention Ade :) Good that you pointed it out here cos yeah seriously, no one really uses thimbles anymore!!!

What is thimbles by the way?

A thimble is a protective shield worn on the finger or thumb to aid sewing.

To prevent the appearing of tiny holes on your fingers during sewing.

Aww man! Great thought there! Maybe after appearing a few markers of diff colours, then take the caps out n do a thimble routine. ingenious!

*Hehehe, markers here i come!*

Hmm, i actually tried it out last nite. Able to work i guess, jus tt its a little thicker than thimbles so its quite easy to flash. Tried it using the Red Leaf permanant marker. Anyone used other brands?

Woohoo! Someone actually tried it out! Great!!
That was precisely one of the points that i was wondering about... Whether it will flash because it is 'bigger' than thimbles. There's a marker slightly not so 'big' as those that you used i think. But i'm not sure of the brand name..

I just thought of another idea for thimble magic (which i don't do btw  ). Posting my crazy ideas here so maybe they'd be of use to someone!

Anyone actually thought of using bandages for thimble magic? I was thinking one can actually do a gimmick kind of bandage that fits like thimble but can slip on and off the finger. I actually do have some ideas on how to do it, but never tested...

Especially nowadays with all the different cartoon character kind of plaster/bandage, i guess one can even show it to kids! Also bring across some safety kind of message to the kids to be careful blah blah blah.

Hope its of use to somebody! ^_^

Ade's a creative genius in the making... thimbles apparently work well with kids  Mr Amazing's show (IBM winner Shawn Chua's not so evil twin) is a hit with children and he does thimbles. I must say I was quite surprised by their reactions ^_^ Ade, it's something definitely worth checking out and yes, one can weave a message across to them about safety as well... Brilliant!

Yeah. We can then mass produce it and make lots of MOOLAH! heh heh heh.

yong_tianadeline - February 10, 2007 04:33 AM (GMT)
He he. I just thought of it just like that... Thanks Ning jie for the compliment, but i'm really no genius! :P Glad the idea may be of use to someone. Thought its really wasted if i don't do it, and it just stagnates!

As for which abyss the idea came out from, haha, from my cranium. :) If there's time, maybe i will try to make one and we can 'test it out' when the meeting's up or something.

Ade.

Yeah. Got a few ideas up my sleeves. Maybe each could make a prototype n take a look during the meetings. heh.
