Title: Hello To All Brothers And Sisters
Moondust - November 20, 2004 02:18 PM (GMT)
I'm a hobbyist practicioner of magic.
I started since I was 8 years old and stopped at 12. My tricks back then included a few stage effects which I performed in school plays, one of them being the Dancing Cane (although I don't it anymore) to date has remained one of my pet favourites. Closeup magic back then were restricted to simple card sleights, [exposure removed] Svengali decks.
I picked magic up again several months ago after a lapse of more than 14 years(I'm 27 this year). I'm just glad to say that I'm happy to go back to the magic fraternity.
I was introduced to this forum by my younger bro, who's 15 years old. I am now sharing my knowledge with him and teaching him not to make the mistakes I made as a kid (that's why I insist he learn his DL properly :D )
I'm surprised to see many changes in magic, any pleasantly pleased to see that many classics are still kept alive by improved modern variations.
Due to my absence in the craft, any criticisms and advice that you guys can render for my improvement will be sincerely appreciated :)

Hi! Like you I only got back into magic after a long long lapse. Actually I think this is cos not as much resources were available back then as last time or I just didn't know of them. The card tricks I saw in the library just didn't cut it. Now with the internet it is much easier to locate magic resources

Wassup too bro! I'm sure I'll enjoy my stay here. I'm sure as hell glad there's such a community for local magicians. They didn't have the Internet back then.
Imagine the difficulty when it comes to ordering tricks you want. Trading ideas and items was impossible other than from direct introductions.

Man, I sooo agree! I had to use a typewriter to type a letter to Tannen's Magic Inc. just to get and order form for a catalogue! It took almost a month to reach them and another month to arrive! Lol. Those were the good ol' days!
I remembered I ordered an old book called "Annemann's Miracles of Card Magic." It was my most treasured compilation of card effects and I had to wait almost half a year for it!

I'm philosophical...and I'm your brother. You should know that by now!
Btw bro, when you're free, please help me dig out the book I mentioned earlier, "Annemann's Miracles of Card Magic." It should be together with my old comic books, if not it's in the storeroom where my old school textbooks are. You might wanna take a peek at it. It's a good book. It's white, softcover with green illustrations on the cover.

My bro's a Secondary school student. He's 15 yrs old. Got him interested in magic after showing him Andrew Mayne's GhostBills. He kept bugging me to teach him and I finally did when he managed to convince me that he has taken an interest in magic. He is indeed quite into it although I'm advocating the tremendous amount of practice and commitment he needs to have. Now that it's school holidays, I guess it's ok for him to spend more time in it as long as his studies aren't affected.
I'm 26 year old and have been doing vehicle trading for 6 years, but I resigned mid 2004, sold my sports car and found a partner to start a food biz with my earnings. Unfortunately, my partner cheated me of all my capital and wiped me dry  (long story). After that 6 month lapse of being jobless and broke, I just started back in my old trade (although market's very bad now) and run a small consultancy firm for vehicle-related matters, real estate and manpower services part-time. I've just started and I'm yet to see profits, but I'm try my best and praying hard.

:( So Sad, Sighz sad to see that your partner cheated you. Is he one of the friends which you knew him long ago ?

NOt exactly a friend, but he's an aquaintance I knew back in army days.
I was too darn soft-hearted. His own company has cashflow problems so I gave cash in return for a post-dated cheque for his share. The cheque never cleared.
Anyhow, I learned afterwards that this guy's a real bastard. He has siphoned over $300,000 from his own mother already. The poor old lady has to sell away her masionette and stay in a rented place now.

Thank you Ning! I must say, female magicians are hard to come by and over here in SMC, you make a good example for inspiration.
Keep up the good work and hope to see you and the rest of the members soon! :)
