Magic Under Fire by Harry Robson

Here's what you get:

A 2 hour long DVD that has Harry Robson take his clever card magic to the various events (corporate parties, weddings, etc.) and afterwards, explaining in detail how the various effects are done. It's nicely broken down and this funny Englishman shares his own personal experiences and many many funny encounters which we can all learn from.

Don't let his seemingly comical get-up fool you, Harry Robson is a professional with more than 20 years of experience in magic and he's also the North West Close-up 20002 Magical Champion & holder of the Blackpool Master Magician 2003 Award!

Now this is what's great about it:

If you're a close-up worker or you do table-hopping/ street magic, this is a DVD you'll want to consider. All you need is a pack of cards and you're all fired to go! What I like about Harry Robson's material is that they're all very practical for the real world.

Most DVDs would 'sell' the cool effect, the successes of the magician's performance, chockfull of happy bemused audience but Robson is more honest and doesn't lie. There's some clips where in REAL performances, they are going to be people who are disinterested in magic. So, he teaches you how to work on this ;)

This DVD is good for beginners in card magic as well, he teaches well and the explainations are clear and detailed, with the tricks not difficult to learn at all- though they pack a punch! Intermediate cardicians will appreciate his gems of wisdom gathered throughout his career as a professional magician and for me, well, I certainly loved this Englishman's funny wit and humor!

He shares bloopers with us of his past experiences and many other stuff we can learn from him. I remember a story that was quite hilarious and had me chuckling out loud... years back, Robson was doing some magic at an event when a pregnant woman asked him to 'see' if her baby would be a boy or girl. He indulged her, since he figured he wouldn't be around when she actually delivered and she was positively happy when he said it'd be a boy. So on a whim, Robson would always do this whenever he met a pregnant lady at a show. He'd screw up his face, pretend to do some hocus pocus as he waved his hand in front of her belly. This went on swell, that is, until the last time he did it...

As usual, he started his 'mentalism' thing and moved his palm a few inches above the lady's belly before revealing his 'predicition' of her baby being a girl. However, instead of (the usual) squealing in delight or beaming happily at Robson, the lady glared at the English magician and growled...

"I'm not pregnant."

So, in a nutshell:

I truly appreciate magicians with REAL personalities and Harry Robson is such a guy :) He is so engaging, you can use his original patter (witty, funny stuff!) and tweak it to suit your style but despite his humorous style of presentation, there's realserious magic in all his effects! ;)

He teaches put-pocketing as well, besides solid stuff like his card transposition (do it with any 2 members of the audiences), professional brainwave (altered from the original concept to make it more feasible in real working scenarios), torn & restored card (i really like his version of this classic, Robson really makes this his own!), and many more...

Magic Under Fire is a worthwhile investment because the effects are all tested routines that Robson has professionally used in his line of work, plus, he shares his thoughts and dishes out advices too on getting payment, dealing with clients, approaching tables, and much more...

This DVD's got my thumbs up!!!
