Why not consider Mark Wilson's Complete Course in Magic? :)
It's a great book for beginners as it gives a well rounded initiation into the art of magic. You learn all about Card Magic, Coin Magic, Rope Magic, Mental Magic, Make-at-Home Magic, Sponge Ball Magic, Billiard Ball Magic, Cups and Balls Magic, and Magical Illusions.
There's over 500 pages in this book and truly, it's especially recommended for the beginner with absolutely no experience in magic.

All of these makes me feel so bad. I remember the old times where I did not know of all this, and had to learn stuff by myself.
Who are those who started off magic by themselves?

Before going further, we suggest that you read the rules first.
There are sources that you can learn from but some of them might not be the right source. If you check out CCs, some country clubs, they do organise such workshops.
But even if you do attend these workshops, it'll not be enough for you. The best and cheapest way is to be self-taught like most of us here. Get the Mark Wilson's book. Its a very valuable book.

"I am new in this, however I'm interested in learning magic with coins, notes and cards...."
Hmm.. how come I got this feeling you do not know any magic at all? So why did you join SMC?
anyway, I will always recommend:
-Born to Perform (cards)- Oz Pearlman
-Expert Coin Magic Made Easy (coins)- David Roth
-Easy to Master Money Miracles (coins & notes)- Michael Ammar. But for this, I think you need at least some basic knowledge of coin magic.

Honestly, who'll teach you for free if you don't know anyone?

Relax everybody...
muscleaxl, if someone whom is new in magic and is interested in magic. They can join SMC as it's open to public, just that they have to abide by the rule, whatsmore this is not a "Give me FREE TRICK" forums. So if they are looking for those here, then this isn't the place for them.
He seem to be finding for people whom can teach as in like WorkShop/Lectures, learning magic at workshop has some advantage, as in the sleights taught are much more clear not like in a DVD or Book. You can even ask the person whom is teaching to do it again and to guide you.
josh_yzf, don't hesitate to ask any more question about some of the reference that we have recommended. Those are DVDs and Books which will help you in your journey in magic. You can purchase them from the dealers in SMC, and just keep watching it compared to a workshop/lecture which is a 1 time go thingy. You can keep those books or dvds for a long time so it can be some guide.
Good Day ~

Hey MAD,
I really don't undertsand why you are mad (ok pun intended) at me for?
1. "for i also do not had the S$ for DVD and do not know or understand english word, so we need someone to teach."
Since when did I mention anything about $$ or English?
2. "Hmm.. how come I got this feeling you do not know any magic at all? So why did you join SMC? "
I am actually asking how he discovered SMC.
And to be honest, from his statements, he does sounds like he hasn't learned any magic before. Just in case he thought SMC is a place for learning magic ( we don't join SMC to "learn" magic). That's why I ask why he joined.
3. I am recommending the Dvds because I don't like to read books. I don't think that sounds very "arrogant", or make me sound I know everything or rich or my English very good.
So what seems to be the problem? And why are you picking on me when there are others who had recommended Dvds?

hi, Magicdow,
Sir, a big sorry to all but i never say i know magic, alway i am a layman, and taking magic as my hobby, how to i learn them it from my camp mate and friends.
and Mr Muscleaxl,
i am sorry to cause you felt that, but i am not picking at you, so sorry, B) i own you a cup of coffe B) . it just the misunderstand of this word:"Hmm.. how come I got this feeling you do not know any magic at all? So why did you join SMC?" for we had read the ruler, i guess he know no teaching in the area, for he is just asking for advise, do read the below.
Ruler 1) as at 09 Sep 2004 Non Exposure
I'm sure most are familiar with this rule. Basically dun ask "How did so-and-so do that trick?". And dun give away any magic secret. We are NOT here to ruin the art of magic, but to facilitate its growth and development. There are many resources (books and DVDs) that is available if anyone is serious about learning magic. You can however ask where to learn a certain trick or advice about where to start learning.
i am M.A.D. and not mad, for it just a day wake up on the wrong side, sorry :off:
muscleaxl - October 26, 2006 08:04 AM (GMT)
Hey no problem, as long as there is no misunderstanding.

I seriously think you should read the rules before posting further.

Hmm.... Seriously, i got a very good method, go meditate and focus on a cup of water, you can actually get it boil up just by looking at it, for maybe about a few years.
If you hate reading notes, i can understand, but to the extend of being too lazy to watch a DVD tutorial, i think your journey through magic is gonna be difficult, most of the content comes from DVDs, and those pervious stuffs are often found in lecture notes and books, by taking lessons or workshop will not bring you far, you can start from workshop, later on, you gonna do you own research in order to move on.
Personally i would also recommend Michael Ammar DVDs, he explain well, if you dont get what he is trying to say in those DVDs, then seriously, you should think twice about picking up this hobby. :)
You are going to learn something that will change the way someone would look at you and improve your interpersonal skills and blah blah blah.... So just put in some effort, you will not regret it! :)

muscleaxl - October 31, 2006 01:54 AM (GMT)
Hmm.. there are many reasons why he don't like DVDs.
Maybe he was turned off by Michael Ammar's asmatic laugh, maybe he was disgusted by Brad Christian's mascara, maybe he couldn't take Sankey's lame jokes perhaps Greg Wilson's buxom assistant in On the Spot took his attention away from the magic... ok out-of-point here...
Lefty - October 31, 2006 05:48 AM (GMT)
Last resort, get Ellusionist Crash Course 1, if you dont understand what Brad is trying to say, then i guess...... you should try playing american pool, its easier to pick up.

There's a good 3 days workshop on housekeeping I can recommend. Pick that up.
Don't waste time in here.
