Title: Texas Hold'em

Anyone here plays texas hold'em? I love the game.
For those who don't know, Texas Hold'em is a form of poker. The instructions usually come with every bicycle deck purchase.

I'm learning to play and love it too....but it can get a little expensive, even at $1 ante, after a few raises.
Recently there's a lot of media attention on this game becoz of the recent World Poker Tournament in SG. All the better for those with gambling routines. B)

i was out 100 bucks last week after an entire night of nolimit holdem. let me just tell you that going all in with a flush and losing everything to a two house isn't exactly the greatest feeling in the world

Just to add to the topic... Anyone here a fan of 7-hand poker? :g:
It's a MSN game, but I've tried playing it with real cards with my friends. Pretty fun. Like a combination of poker, bluff and... uh, just poker and bluff.
Each person has his own deck (2 decks in the game), so it's actually not bad a game for magicians, considering that you could try cheating as well...

I do play once in a while, but I'm not very good. Prefer other card games.

Argh, i know this game. Just arrived from a game of poker(not Texas Hold 'em) with my dad. Lost $7000 worth of chips. :(
Dang. This was what happened on the last round. I had a pair of Kings. And he had 1 face down card, 1 Face up 7, 2 face up 10s and 1 queen. So i thought "hmm.. could he have another pair? Very Unlikely." So i threw in all the rest of my chips totalling around $1000. And he matched it!! And...
Yep! The face down card he had was another 7. So he had 2 pairs. Dang. So i lost. Terribly. =((((
ARGH!
Morale: Never hesitate to cheat while playing poker. Even if it is against your dad. :P

Eh... what's the difference with normal poker?
Paradoxt - November 19, 2006 01:34 PM (GMT)
Instead of having an individual hands... you guys sort of like share a common pile... right?
ming - November 19, 2006 02:14 PM (GMT)
erm.. There's no such thing as normal poker. There are just many variations, all of which involve the same betting system, and most variants use the same hand ranking system. Texas Hold'em is one of these variants. The "normal poker" you are talking about is another variant.
For more info, i think you can check wikipedia.

We played lotsa Hold'em during the Magic Chalet....not money but water drinking penalty.
Hold'em can get pretty expensive even at small ante and blinds, unless you have very low betting limits. But then, it becomes difficult to bluff with low limits.

The way we play is different. First we'll settle on a amount of money for the game, usually $5 or $10. (Occasionally $20.. Hehe)
Lets say 5 players play, a $10 game. Each player will receive $1500 worth of poker chips, in exchange for $10. The blinds are 25/50, and will double up every 12 minutes. (standard poker rules)
At the end of the game, the winner will take all the money, which means, in a 5 player game, you either win $40, or lose $10. Each game will last around 45 minutes or so. $10 for 45 minutes of intense fun sounds pretty worth it to me, instead of playing pool/billard or go karaoke or stuffs like that.
This way, it is not that "shiong" if you lose.. Haha. The price of each game changes according to who you're playing. Sometimes we play for fun, $2 games even happen. But of course.. If its a $2 game, everyone will anyhow play.. "Come on, showhand!"
