Expected to be the largest independently organised indoor live music festival in Singapore, Flow, is set to take place across the entire Ministry of Sound Complex come Tuesday December the 5th 2006, ushering in the start of the school holidays. Presented by Nokia and supported by Adidas, Miss Earth Singapore, Whosgoing.sg (official youth Portal), Nightlife.sg (official online media), Exitmusik (underground music partner), Think Magazine (official press media) and Soft (official live music partner), the event is a youth for youth initiative put together by the triumvirate of Gashaus, Play Projekts and the iLLers. Flow was intended to be a voice for independent performers in Singapore as well as a celebration of live music with an underground theme.
True to its youth concept, future clubbers and live music enthusiasts from the age of 16 will be granted access to Flow. The event’s age policy will divide the venue into two, with 18+ entrants being able to access all four areas while 16+ entrants can only attend the main arena and hip-hop stage at Smoove which will be smoke and alcohol free for the night. Tickets are priced at a modest $20 for this ambitious endeavour.
Flow showcases over 20 independent musicians across four platforms in the 40,000 sq.ft venue, featuring Australian Industrial maestros DIVINE9. The main arena will also host the cream of local talent such as veteran rockers Concave Scream, Baybeats 2006 crowd favorites Plain Sunset, Power 98fm’s 2006“best Singapore band” nominees Saw Loser a.k.a Pug Jelly and West Grand Boulevard, Tien, as well as popular Japanese Visual rockers Seraph. Other entertainment will include a dynamic showcase of Krumpers, B-boys and beat boxers by the iLLers including performances by the Breakforce Crew, Huron and Ren. The stage will also be hosted by Miss Earth Singapore 2006 winner Shin as well as Singapore Idol 2006 participant Paul Twohill
The “Independence” stage in Ministry of Sound’s Pure Room, powered by SOFT, will feature a whole plethora of younger talent headlined by World Battle of the Bands 2006 Singapore winners Flybar who will represent Singapore in the world final of the competition in Hongkong during November. They will be supported by Yamaha Asian beat 2005 and Singapore battle of the bands 2006 finalist Project Ultrasound, Powerjam 2006 runner-up Fatskunks, Powerjam crowd favorites The Nerves, Sevenfalls, Ivy’s Vendetta, Sound Expulsion, Airtime, Stentorian, Sunset Strip, Face Off and August Star.
Smoove will play host to the “Hip-hop” stage with 2003 DMC Champion DJ Koflow turntabling together with Ministry’s own Rattle and Tang.
Lastly, for those with a more wicked, harder preference, the “originals” stage at 54 will feature the best of the Singapore Drum and bass scene with top selector Vortex, the man behind Exitmusik, Kiat with MC Kane and subversive’s Zul.
A secret afterparty has been organised as an appropriate epilogue to this massive lineup – details will not be made available until the end of the event.
