When I first saw the preview video in Devo's Xtreme Beginners DVD, I am already anticipating the release of De'Ring. I mean, judging at the speed of Devo being able to put the ring on at lightning speed, I know that I've got to learn it! Personally I wouldn't categorize this release as a Magic showpiece, but more to Manipulation instead.

Anyhow, here's my short review

Choosing the Right Ring
Devo will guide along on how to choose the perfect ring for the manipulation. Included are some, what I can call general knowledge on how to remove a tight ring easily off your finger. Also, steps to teach you how to 'fake' a tight ring. Very basic yet ingenious move.

Teaching Style
Very clear, step by step tutorial all taught by De'Vo himself. With different angles to show how it looks like from there. Those who own Xtreme Beginners, the teaching style is somewhat similiar. From there on, all we need to do is Practice.

Live Performance
Devo's Core routine. Showcases the full Ring routing performed by Devo himself. A rare chance to see De'Vo (with his face being blurred  ) performing for live audience, including places like pubs and discos. You can see the awe on the audiences' face. Simply the I-Cannot-Believe-It look. Very entertaining section to watch.

Bonuses
In my opinion, the teaching of Devo's Core Routine is well worth the money already. Yet, he included some really great bonuses teach-ins like The Gryphon Roll and Insanity Ladder. These move can instantly make you look like a semi-pro in ring manipulation already.

Verdict
As always, a very stylish environment within the DVD with great music and great picture quality in Devo's production. The whole package is pretty much worth the money.

seizure_ : do you have any idea where to get those "military rings" in singapore?

ming - December 8, 2006 04:32 AM (GMT)
Do you have to use "military rings" to perform De'Ring, or will any ring do? For example, can I use a PK Ring?

And just out of curiousity, why are they called military rings?

Hey guys. Hm...today I went down to Far East Plaza and down town Orchard in hope to find a decent ring to practice with, something like a military ring (I realize that my standard ring is not great for Manipulation, apart from the Gryphon Roll ... ) and I couldn't find any that resembles or comes close to the military ring type :( maybe I didn't search hard enough. Majority of the ring the shops carry are more towards fashion and standard non-rock rings. I'm still trying to find a ring which I can wear everyday and looks decently great for manipulation.

I looked into ebay and here's one of the link
I'm not sure why is it called the Military Ring, but it's not hard to see from the picture, that the ring have the word 'United States Airforce' around the rock. Other rings have wordings like The US Navy and US Army things like that. You'll have to watch the DVD and that should be enough to know why DeVo chose the Military Ring.

hm.... ming, you can definitely use a PK ring but as to what Devo mentioned in the DVD, plain rings are not visually entertaining and does not catch the eye as compared to a ring with a rock on top of it. The ring I have now is somewhat like a PK ring. No designs or whatsoever. Just plain and standard. That is why I want to find something nice..

You can find more info from this site.

Does anyone knows where to get nice looking military rings locally? Please tell us hehe :P

I got my military ring, not exactly "military" but its an engraved word on it. I bought it at bugis, but its along the streets at the other side. Im not sure about the name of the area though. Quite a few selections there.

Are there any "magic-themed" form of military rings over there?

Which part of bugis street? That place is pretty darn huge. ^_^

Sehnsucht - December 10, 2006 01:32 PM (GMT)
Well it originally was $25 but I managed to bargain it down to $20. Always remember to bargain at those kind of places.

But where is the place?! Actually I do not frequent Bugis so often to really know the area well, but it isn't near the "Bugis" where most of you probably go, like the shopping centre that area. Its more of a street-like atmosphere selling stuffs at the sides, ranging from tshirts cds and all those jazz. Damn, I'm frustrating myself out. Sorry people if that didn't help at all.

???

Nah..I already knew where the place is. Just need the exact shop.

At least we knew the price now. ^_^

Thanks

Cheers

Yeah I guess majority of us should know where Bugis Street is ! Thanks for the heads up! Gonna head down tomorrow and hunt for a decent ring already! :P

hihs - December 10, 2006 05:07 PM (GMT)
wad sizes are avalidable there?

CyberMew - December 12, 2006 11:13 AM (GMT)
I went down to Bugis today, went to a shop with many types of pattern and bought a normal band ring, but forgot to bargin, paid 15 dollars!

The shop I went is at 2nd floor at the Bugis Street there(?), forgot the name of the store though, Silver something..

Which shop are you referring to for the miltiary style one?

Can Sehnsucht take a picture of your ring that you bought?

Falcon121 - December 15, 2006 02:07 AM (GMT)
This has probably been mentioned but just to clarify: can you use band style rings or does it have to be military ones??

alafista - March 9, 2007 04:53 PM (GMT)
I think that the main thing about military rings is that they feature a large stone so you get a better presentation effect compared to the plain bands.

I just started practicing recently, I think that its uber awesome.

However, I would recommend getting a good fitting smooth round band ring instead so that you can use it to do the insanity ladder flourish as well.

I enjoyed the DVD, just that my hands gets sweaty and its affects my practice.
