Title: Lockpick Set
Description: Where to buy

Sehnsucht - December 10, 2006 04:57 AM (GMT)
Anyone knows where can i purchase a lockpick set?

On that note, is it illegal to own a lockpick set in Singapore? Because in some other countries, it is illegal to do so.

Hmm, I think you need to be licensed in order to be a locksmith, or else there will be whole lots of people out there that can open lock. As for a lockpick set. I never see before, and never about to find one also. True but hard.

But from engineering side, the locks are equiped using a pick type pin. So, of course need special tool to pick into the lock, then it will be open le. It is not like those shows that use half pin to open the lock. Haha!! But once the lock is pin, the whole lock can throw le. :)

Why will you need it?

LOL, if it is in some countries. It definitely is in Singapore. They ban everything here.

well I locked a portion of my previous magic stuff in my drawer quite a while back. I discovered it today but it seems I misplaced the key somehow or rather and I wanted to see what archived magic effect I placed in there. So along that line, I was thinking of ways to open the lock, and since I didn't really want to spoil the box nor the lock, i decided to perhaps learn lockpicking instead. Moreover, it might be pretty interesting to have a new skill in life. Pretty much like flourishing and magic, lockpicking has its own competitive element too, such as speed lockpicking.

But it seems my journey to this new skill has been put to an abrupt stop, due to the rare occurance of lockpicking in singapore, not to mention it is most probably illegal to own a lockpick set. I done my research and although it states that you can make your own lockpick tools, i felt that it would be too troublesome to go to such lengths though, such as using a grinder etc. Well you can make your own, but I've tested with some of my locks, I managed to pick about 2 of them before the lockpick really gave way. So such temporary lockpicks wouldn't really help, less so for beginners.

So if anyone managed to perhaps find a source where I can get these things, please inform me. Or would online ordering be possible instead?

Thanks.

We have the sets available... just see our website ;) Are you interested in escapes? If you are, you ought to go for the SMC chalet BBQ coming up... Iron Will, SG's only escape artist, will be there ;)

I've searched through www.TheLittleMagicShop.com and I found a Lock Pick manual by Dave Powell which includes a rake,a t.wrench and a pick.

Is the tools solely available rather than the manual included as well?

You might wanna try Beyond the Doors DVD, there 2 lock-picking tools included inside.

Speed lockpicking is really boring. It's basically a guy that has a stopwatch, and all you can see is him shoving the pick into the lock for the basic lock and then pulling it out. The most advanced lock took slightly less than 2 minutes. I guess unless you know what the guy is doing, you won't know what's happening.

Maybe u can try Home-Fix the DIY store? i remember seeing lockpick sets around before. Not sure whether they are actual tools or just screwdrivers.

In most shows, they just pull apart a paper clip and get down to work. =)

Oops. Forgot to answer the question in my first post. You can find it here.
It's the webpage for a shop in Singapore. Somewhere in Potong Pasir. Never been there before though.

And you can't find it in Home-Fix. Or most DIY stores. I checked quite a few last time.

There is a lock picking demostration by Will Hairmi during the Micro Magic Convention. Those interested in this area might want to check it out.
