Title: Faro Shuffle
Description: anyone?

just curious, how many fellow forumites here are able to do the perfect Faro shuffle just about almost 100% ? Say, try to do 10 times Faro and maybe hit 8-9 times without having a card being out of place ?

I'm still trying hard and would appreciate some advice from fellow magicians ^_^

Don't think any will faro for 10 times. if I remember correctly, 8 perfect faros = a false shuffle and so far tricks that need this number of faros are Unshuffled and another one by Aaron Fisher (don't take my word for it..I've only come across 2 so far).

Still trying to perfect mine with slightly worn out deck though. I believe I can hit 8 perfects with a new deck. :P

If you are learning a faro shuffle, pick up John Bannon's Dear Mr Fantasy and take a look at his Dawn Patrol. A definite magician fooler.

I understand the fact that 8 faros = false shuffle but I was wondering how many here can actually do perfect faros as many times as possible. Something like, when he wants it, he can do it lol. Personally, I can achieve only like 1-2 times out of like 10 tries  still trying hard.

Anyways, thanks for the tips! I actually learn the Faro from Darwin Ortiz's DVD. The way he does the One Handed Faro is :!!:

I know quite a few in the forum who can do perfect faros quite consistantly and quickly. Uncle Bob, Ning and Shade just to name a few I've seen, although I'm sure there's a lot more who can do it but I didn't see before.
Shade has been reputated to be able to do tabled perfect faros very well but I haven't seen it myself. But knowing him, it's not hard to believe. B)

It's so much easier with a new deck of cards :) If you're using a crap deck it's going to be a bit of a challenge to weave it in... but I guess it's all a matter of practice and you'll definately enjoy the process!

Cheers,
ning ^_^

The Faro shuffle's an excellent utility move that opens up doors to impossible effects otherwise by conventional means.

Faro by its very nature implies a perfect cut and a perfect weave. Many effects do not require a perfect cut at 26 cuts. Some depend on it. It depends on what you're trying to achieve I suppose... :P

Really, it's a 'knack'; if you're seriously interested in learning this move, just put in some dedication to it (I know a student of mine who did it in two days). Or you could always attend the next SMC gathering (soon to come along... at a neighbourhood not so near you - but what the heck everywhere is near everywhere else in Singapore) and I'm sure there'll be plenty of people who'll be more than happy to help you learn it right.

Just don't learn it for a GIANT FAN ok?

Maybe this might help you, at least it did for me.

close your eyes when you are working on ur farrow. This prevents your from seeing anything, this way you'll be training your body to cut exactly 26 cards and farrowing them. You'll get the feel pretty fast. Of course you would have to open your eyes to check if u got a perfect faro.

Good luck on your farrows.

Try it with Bees decks. There are lots of Bees decks out there, and I'm not exactly sure of the quality and differences between all of them, but the one I got from US is good.

When I wasn't able to do the faro at the start, I could do it on Bees

I do a V faro, where the cards will weave in naturally by themselves.
Hmm heard its called a V faro if theres such a thing.
Works 9 out of 10 times perfect for me. if i cut perfectly at 26.
Start with plastic cards, GREAT for v faro.

faros are definitely done better with new decks and the feel of using a new deck to faro is like :P
lots of practicing would make a good faro and 10 perfect one wouldnt be a problem with practice... =)

Plastic coated deck(like bee) is very useful while your practice faro.I have no problem with faro but one-handed faro :( :( :( any advice?

Bob Chua - February 9, 2007 05:06 PM (GMT)
Bee Deck is not plastic coated. Buy a deck and note the finish written on the box.

Faro is a utility move in card magic and is meant to help you in making card effects more amazing.

Knowing how to do a perfect faro does not mean anything unless you know how to make use of it.

Check out how Martin Nash and Darwin Ortiz use this move in their effects.

Uncle Bob
