Title: Box Monster

http://www.ellusionist.com/order/Box-Monst...than-Kranzo.phpAs above... looks good... But E tends to overhype everything
nawniloc - October 5, 2006 10:48 AM (GMT)
I agree the video looks really impressive. Hopefully some here can review if its really as good as it looks.

"Clean up is natural and instant... and easy"
I'm worrying it gets too simple. Lol.
BAdmiNTon - October 6, 2006 09:37 AM (GMT)
Can it be examined by the audience? With an effect like this, i'm sure the audience would want to check it out.
LarryDK - October 6, 2006 03:34 PM (GMT)
Yes, i think it is examinable up to an extend, it can be done with borrowed deck. So Ya, but not during the effect.
dtjk - October 6, 2006 05:52 PM (GMT)
I have this thing called Kundalini Rising by Jeff Mcbride, and I can achieve exactly the same effect of the Box Monster..
Ya, also can be borrowed deck / inspected / clean up easily / instant reset. I think the Nathan's Box Monster might be something similar to Kundalini.. Maybe? Maybe not..
Hehe, at first when I read the description, I thought the cards (whole deck) move out of the box by itself, and then ribbon spread on the table by itself.. :!!: That's be scary.
Try and read the description really fast, or just read the bold. Haha.
-----
"MAKE CARDS MOVE AT WILL."
The spectator selects two cards from the deck-- there are no forces. With no funny moves, the cards are placed back in the center of the deck. The deck is then placed back into the box. The box is closed.
With no false movements, the card box visibly snaps open and one card is then seen to slowly, visibly rise up out of the deck.
The spectators eyes are fixed on your hands. You bring the cards down to the table and spread them from right to left.
Then, one card begins to slowly move out of the spread, towards the spectator -- while on the table. You've never seen anything like this. And neither have they-- it's plain eerie. The card moves out of a spread on the TABLE.

Hey! I thought the exact thing. Thought the whole deck would crawl out and spread slowly before revealing one card that rises above the rest.
... Geez, we haven't even bought the product and we got dissapointed already.
But the fact that the deck can be borrowed probably means no bulky gimmicks and no cardy stuff that you have to load into the deck.
However, prep is required. It's not impromtu, so even if you borrowed a deck, you would have to hide in a corner for set-up first. Defeats the purpose of openly borrowing a deck, but at least you don't have to use bikes. Good for laymen?
Edit: It's just a thought. Heh. I might be wrong :g:
Droicut - October 7, 2006 10:17 AM (GMT)
Well, if it's as simple as it claims... then the effect is really powerful for it's simplicity. I think.
I'm also under the conception of no bulky gimmicks... But havn't actually got a decent review yet.
weezard - October 7, 2006 05:20 PM (GMT)
Nathan Kranzo has posted some replies on the E forums saying that the gimmick isn't bulky and it wouldn't be noticable by the spectators. Additionally, according to him, the reset and clean up is pretty easy and non obvious.
As of now, it seems alright to me to buy it if you like this effect.
dtjk - October 8, 2006 03:37 AM (GMT)
Now it really sounds like Kundalini Rising to me..
weezard - October 8, 2006 04:46 PM (GMT)
Btw someone in E forums said they broke their gimmick. Fortunately it's repairable. It's one of those tricks which you need to get some use to in order to pull it off nicely. Reminds me of when i first had my ID.
DkGamer - October 20, 2006 04:48 AM (GMT)
Its a good effect, but it requires practice to perfect and make the trick smooth. The "gimmick" isn't exactly bulky. As for the noticing by the audiences, it will have to depend on your presentation. I don't think you will be caught that often anyway.

Those who have it; could you comment if it is worth getting?
AndrewGoh - November 8, 2006 05:03 AM (GMT)
Well... having both Kundalini Rising and the Box Monster..
Kundalini Rising : $12USD
Box Monster : $25USD
Unless u know how to make the card box magically open by itself and making the card move out when u spread it, I would recommend the box monster. Here is the answers to some of the questions posted here.
1) Can it be done on a borrowed deck?
YES.
2) Is it true that the gimmick can be fixed?
YES. It is repairable
3) Is the gimmick in box monster 'similar' to the one in Kundalini Rising?
YES.... But i personally feel that the 1 in box monster is of better quality compared to the kundalini rising and in the dvd they will teach how to fix ur gimmick.
Considering its only $13USD more, and u will get:
1) to learn how to magically make the card box open by itself
2) to learn how to making the spectator's card move out in the spread
3) better gimmick (imo)
and the result u get from people's faces.....
PRICELESS!

Just my $0.02 worth,
I don't think any haunted deck can compare to Spooked isn't it? (the price of Box Monster is also uncomparable to Spooked. )
Spooked may well be the best haunted deck effect out there, and its done with a borrowed deck too!
Any opinons?
AndrewGoh - November 10, 2006 04:49 AM (GMT)
Haha I have spooked too.. got mine less than 3 weeks ago when nicholas einhorn was here to lecture. its really haunted deck on steriods!!! then again price wise its abit steep $150SGD... for those not interested in breaking the bank can consider the other options in this thread.

Just recieved my box monster DVD. Its a pretty neat trick as you are able to let the audience examine the deck after the trick is done. Its much more convincing compared to those gimmicked rising decks. Its also teaches you to make the box to open itself. Overall, its a pretty neat trick. I give it a 8/10.
