Title: Next Smc Gathering - What? Where? Closes on 16 Jan
Description: Your ideas for next gathering...
Shade - January 9, 2007 03:32 AM (GMT)
Hi people,
Just thinking out loud here... if we were to organise another gathering, it'll be nice to have a good point of focus so that the people who attend would actually gain something.
With this in mind, I thought it'll be nice to put up a poll and see what the interests are of the general populace. Do feel free to comment and leave your ideas.
Shade
PS: I just threw a few ideas out there... no way for me to cover EVERYTHING, but do feel free to post your thoughts here.
Bob Chua - January 9, 2007 11:22 PM (GMT)
Hi Shade
You can have my support of the next SMC gathering.
Keep up the spirit of magic.
Uncle Bob
jeromefang - January 10, 2007 05:46 AM (GMT)
Shade's the man :D
Thanks Shade for taking the effort of finding out what would be a good point of focus for our next gathering. This would definitely make our next gathering a much more valuable and rewarding experience. You've listed almost everything there is, I can't think of anything more, unless you wanna include Geek or Black Magic
Come on guys do give ring in your votes so that we can have a better idea what kind of gathering we can organise. This will definitely help make our meeting organiser's job easier. :D
PS: Thanks Uncle Bob for your constant support. SMC is ever so fortunate to always have you with us. Thanks so much. ^_^

Aren't Shade supposed to be busy teaching as school has re-opened? He seemed to be posting more often that usual. Hmm... No wonder I was reading a report that Singapore students' calibre are going down. Apparently, some teachers just ain't doing what they are paid for. :P
Ok, anyway, have casted my votes.
Yes, for those who read this, pls kindly let us know your preferences so that we can organize more meaningful meetings to benefit you all. Afterall, without members like you guys (and some gals) participating, SMC is nothing!! (I'm beginning to sound like a politician...)
Here's a few reasons why you should participate in such meetings:
1. It's not enough to "know" how to do a trick, you need to know how to "show" it so as to let your spec fully experience the magic. Reading the forum is good but not sufficient. What can be better than learning from the masters like Uncle Bob and seeing them in action?
2. Exchange of ideas. You may have a way of performing but you could certainly benefit and grow by learning from others too. May I also remind you, it's FREE (subjective to changes, maybe Aloy or Shade decide to charge you $188 for that)!! Try going to a magic shop and ask for performing tips and they will tell you they will teach that for $100 but members' price for you is $50.
3. YOu can clear any doubts or ask any questions on the spot without needing to wait for a reply in the forum and it will be clearer to have it explain in person (magic related, of course, though I know Shade could tell you something on male multiple orgasm..). WE have experts in all areas for this. At the most, we will bring in Lennart Green, Chris Korn or even Daryl for you, think Enrico knows them. Eh.. but no promise.
4. You get to know more friends and like-minded people who you can finally openly discussed about magic. You can show them the routine you are learning and you can afford to make mistakes. A very good training ground.
5. YOu get the see NING! (or Aloy if you are into guys)
Hope to see more of you next time!
Eric - January 10, 2007 08:46 AM (GMT)
I missed the last meeting as was busy with work. Will definitely try to attend the next one as I am looking forward to chat with Uncle Bob, I have great respect for this man. Keep the spirit of Magic going.....

LOL. Well, you I got news for you man; the standard has been steadily on the decline since a certain Insurance agent stepped into magic. ;P See how bad the English is?

No prizes for spotting the poor grammar in the above quotes. ;)
Anyway, I've been busy trying to balance the insanity of work with the madness of magic. Not easy, but I think nothing worthwhile should ever be easy.
Thanks Uncle Bob for your vote of confidence. I appreciate it. Once we have a nice tally from the poll, I'd ask you to give a nice lecture on the topic. And we'll have Axl do something this time... hahaha. I have no doubt that he could clear a few doubts for you guys regarding Male Multiple Orgasms too - he memorised the book from cover to cover the other night.
Seriously though, Axl's right - gatherings are for everyone to indulge magic in a risk free and open environment so that we can all grow (hopefully wiser and better). Closet magicians only get so far (how far can you stretch yourself in a closet?).
And of course you get to meet Ning - Singapore's very own MagicBabe! (Or Mr SMC - Aloysius - if you want to get yourself an account in SMC or get banned permanently... either way, it's a good deal!)
With Axl and Jerome and Uncle Bob making appearances, you just can't go wrong - you'll definitely learn something useful, frivolous and FUN (Like the 51 card lift!)

GordonLi - January 10, 2007 01:35 PM (GMT)
Well, it's been quite some time, and I really look forward to being able to attend some upcoming meetings and catch up with some of you.
Let's see how this goes!
dry_gin - January 10, 2007 03:37 PM (GMT)
It definitely takes alot of personal time and effort especially for the moderators like Shade, Jerome and Axl to put in so much effort to organise events, or even more to try to organise that all the members want! Uncle Bob too! For always being there constantly for SMC!
So the only way is to vote on what we think would be valuable for our own magic routines or effects! I know I did!
Kudos to all of you that help to make it happen, and I hope that it would be real soon!

dtjk - January 10, 2007 04:36 PM (GMT)
LOL! Axl and Shade is damn damn funny lah! I think they'll be like funnier or fun-er in person. Either way its good, whether you're into comedy magic or not. I'll make it to this meeting if I can!
Ning - January 11, 2007 07:10 AM (GMT)
Yup, dry_gin is right... kudos to the mods in coming up with the next SMC gathering. This event sounds really cool... Shade, you da man! It's great that Uncle Bob is so generous to spend time and jam with us *grin* It'd be swell to meet up with everyone again. I'm looking forward to it already!!!
Cheers,
Ning ;)
muscleaxl - January 11, 2007 07:29 AM (GMT)
Well, eh... looking at my English, I think you guys should know why I am a Financial Planner instead of a teacher. But there's a Chinese saying: "If the student is poor, it's because the teacher is lazy." I think there's a lot of truth in this. Maybe my English teacher is trying to balance his work and some frivolous hobby of his too. Hmm...
Anyway, yes, I have memorised the book from cover to cover but only the pictures on the covers. All because Shade refused to lend us the book. So if you want to know the contents go to him. Why? He even infused it into his card work, telling us, "you can have mulitiple climaxes in one routine."
Ok, enough of all the backstabbing, just make sure all you tyrn up for the next one.
PS: No, we are not into comedy magic or comedians. We are all serious, sophisticated and dignified master illusionists. We are organizing the smallest Macro Convention soon, so watch out for this space. :P
Hey it's a joke k...
Ning - January 11, 2007 07:37 AM (GMT)
Axl, if you ever decide to quit financial planning, you can be a comedy magician :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r: Seriously.
dtjk - January 11, 2007 05:10 PM (GMT)
I'm trying to imagine a couple of clowns with HUGE red noses doing perfect faros wearing gloves.. That'd be something! :D
Shade - January 12, 2007 12:57 AM (GMT)
LOL - Axl you're simply hilarious. I just can't resist responding.
You're probably right - your teacher *was* probably doing something he probably shouldn't be indulging; but however probable and conceivable it might be that a teacher does make the student be, it is also improbable that he is the sole factor in a student's lack of progress or result. ;)
QUOTE
yes, I have memorised the book from cover to cover but only the pictures on the covers. All because Shade refused to lend us the book.
I did recall saying, "Hey, concentrate on the game guys, you can take the book home with you." Not sure if that qualifies as refusing to lend it... :P No worries Axl - I know you didn't take it because you already memorised all the stuff - content and pictures. I must say though that I'm impressed by your memory.
QUOTE
He even infused it into his card work, telling us, "you can have mulitiple climaxes in one routine."
Again, a complete miscarriage of justice - you have to stop misquoting me. Hahaha. Not that I really mind, but I think it I was simply quoting Dai Vernon when he said, "If I could climax as many times as a Derek Dingle Effect, I'd be a happy man!"
After THAT we started deviating from the topic of Magic. HAHAHA. Damn it was so fun - those of you who missed our last gathering on New Year's Eve really missed out on the best part of Magic. ROFL

Reality check - clowns with huge red noses (some people call them spongeballs on the face) usually don't need to do faros wearing gloves. They carry plastic honk hammers and whack everybody on the head. I hate clowns anyway.

By the way, in case you're just tuning in to this conversation in the forum, I must point out that I am indeed genuinely fond of our Muscle man Axl (who's not really as muscular as Muscle man Jack), and the sparkling repartee ongoing keeps me sane from a terrible day at work. ;OP~ <- Red Nosed Clown drooling over his hammer.
Thanks Axl! :)
Eric - January 12, 2007 01:14 AM (GMT)
Hi Shade,
Have you already planned a date for then next meeting ? About when ?
regards,
Eric
joeltay81 - January 12, 2007 03:14 AM (GMT)
Haha. Shade, you really cracked me up.
:D  :g: :!!:
I will be back in singapore for a month starting on 15th Jan. So if there is any events, do keep me updated.

I HATE CLOWNS TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :ph43r: :ph43r: :ph43r: ...But mine is more a chronic fear, stemming from childhood phobia if anything. So please, no card faro-ing, painted faced, dorkily dressed, bumbling evil psycho twit from Hell near me please.... <_< If anyone dresses like that at the next SMC gathering, you can be sure Miss Ning wouldn't be going 5 metres near the place.
Gah!!!!
n.
PS: Thanks to you Shade, I will NEVER ever see Dai Vernon in the same position, er, light... ever again. Ahem.
Aloy - January 12, 2007 04:54 AM (GMT)
Ok...looks like the next gathering, wherever it is, is gonna be quite a big one B) And possibly a little weird one , from the thread so far.
I was the 1st to vote but my choice has been overtaken. No matter, the current favourites are great too.
Great if you can join us Joel. finally you will know what it's like to jam with other magician.
And I cannot agree more with Axl's reasons for going for a gathering:

Yes, even the last one. :!!:
muscleaxl - January 12, 2007 09:10 AM (GMT)
Hi Joel, I am hoping to see you too. God Bless you and Shalom!
Anway, I REALLY did not memorise the material. Jerome was holding to it all night! I think he was the one who memorized it, maybe trying to do a book test. Or maybe he palmed the whole book away, that was why he was in a hurry to go home that night. My God!! How low can someone stoop for the sake of his eh... love life?
Ok, :off:
AdrianLee - January 12, 2007 09:17 AM (GMT)
I only saw Jerome and Gordon perusing through Shade's climaxing book during the New Year games session. I didn't know Axl (who arrived just in time to replace the very red me on the card table) went a step further to memorise the book from cover to cover. I guess I missed the subsequent climaxes of the session as I left early. The multiple-climaxing story (pun intended) continues to unfold as Axl denies memorising the book! Watch out for the next episode in this epic saga...
:off: On the topic of clowns, I never saw clowns in the same light again ever since I watched and read Stephen King's IT when I was younger. *shudders at the thought of clowns with red balloons* :off:
Back to the gathering again, it certainly looks to be more macro than micro (Axl's idea of the smallest macro gathering hits home), and I'm definitely looking forward to it!
Remember: YOU GET TO SEE ALOY! (or Ning if you're not into Aloy, but you still get to see Aloy anyway, so yeah). The Mr. SMC fanclub needs more defectors from the MagicBabe fanclub. :ph43r: :P And not to forget the Dynamic Duo S&M (Shade & muscleaxl. What were you thinking of?)
yong_tianadeline - January 12, 2007 11:08 AM (GMT)
Oh yea.. this thread is seriously erm.. weird??
Anyway, yay for the current favorites, what i really want to know!!
This meeting is looking to be a big and good one - really looking forward to the up-coming meeting. :)
:off: Clowns are not as frightening as the grinning evil looking Ronald Macdonald!! :ph43r:

Oh man, we're going so off the topic here  I have to confess I was the one who asked from Shade the book after so much rave was generated from the uplifting gathering (amazingly how a Multiple Lifts session became one of multiple climaxes :P ) hehe.. and Gordon was my accomplice who shared the book with me, before our dear friend Axl came and conquered the book haha...
I could'nt palm the book off. Its too big plus how to steal the book away from our very own cardshark Shade
Ok back to topic now, Thanks for all the votes everyone. Dynamic Duo S&M (Great job on the names Adrian haha...) and I are finalising on the date and location. We'll let you know soon. ^_^

LOL, I know what you're referring to, but actually there's nothing wrong with his statement. It's quite correct from a grammatical point of view.
QUOTE
Dynamic Duo S&M (Great job on the names Adrian haha...) and I are finalising
The subjects - Dynamic Duo S&M - AND himself (referring of course to Jerome) would require a plural verb - 'are'.
Nevermind; it's just an occupational hazard. Just ignore me if you don't think I made much sense here.
But mean time, we are finalising the location and time. Seeing as it might come up to about 20 people or so (I'm being optimistic again - some people will vote and say they want to turn up but end up "flying aeroplane" - as my wife would put it.)
We'll keep you updated once we've finalised everything after the polling ends tomorrow.
muscleaxl - January 15, 2007 05:23 AM (GMT)
Who is IR Baboon? Something only people of Shade's generation could remember? Hmm.. my time is all about Transformers (as their jingle goes: "Trans-Former.. No money to buy..."), Masks and Smurfs (the blue thing which lives in mushrooms). Wonder what's the hottest thing now?
Ok, back to the main topic:
How about this? All the people who turn up this time will be entitled to a free copy of Shade's book (you know, THAT book), on courtesy of ALoy. But subjected to a minimum turnout of 20 people. If not, all the books will go to the moderators (Shade excluded as he already own a copy).
dry_gin - January 15, 2007 09:15 AM (GMT)
Shade, please bring the book along so that you can actually display or show the book on preview first before selling it. I'm sure that the little magic shop would want exclusive rights in helping you distribute or even market it. hahaha.
Ok, enuff said, and Moderators, please dun go too off the topic, you guys should be leading by example. kindly decide that next time and location for the meet-up.
Cheers!
